Also according to www.imdb.com Paul Lynde died from cancer.

***Jim Henson died of a strep infection--not AIDS. Dack Rambo (from Dallas)
and the father from the Brady Bunch died from it, too. Years ago, People
Magazine listed Amanda Blake from Gunsmoke as an AIDS victim, but the IMDb says
she died of oral cancer.

I thought he died of a heart attack?
As to Paul Lynde, I seem to recall the "official" cause was also a heart
attack, but I am trying to rack my brain as to the time period. I
remember that he appeared in a play at the Atlanta Civic Center about 6
months before he died, and in a newspaper interview, never gave any
indication that he was sick, but I distinctly remember the pic that
accompanied the story and he did _not_ look too good.
I don't think he was ever officially "out"-can anyone with a better
memory than me set me straight (no pun intended!) on this one?
Maryanne.
I was always a big fan of Mr. Lynde. I didn't know that either of us were
homosexual until later in life, but that is another story. I loved watching
him on "Bewitched." My own mother said that I reminded her a lot of him.
Little did she know.
In any case it appears that Paul died in 1982. According to the info at
http://home.att.net/~joeandscot/PLTIME.HTML
1982
Early on January 11, Paul's body is found by friends after he fails to
appear at a dinner party. The 55 year old actor had died of a massive heart
attack and as a result of natural causes.
I'm pretty sure she died from some AIDS related illness. Amanda Blake
was married to a local politician in Austin, TX. I was living in Austin
shortly after the politician passed away. There was a bit of a scandal
at the time - seems he was well known in Austin's gay scene although he
remain closeted in public life. The cause of his death was never really
revealed, but it was common knowledge that it was AIDS related. A lot of
people I know believe that Amanda Blake contracted HIV from him (jeez, I
wish I could remember the guys name - sorry).

I read this article that said the typical symptoms
of stress are eating too much, playing too
much, impulse buying, and driving too fast. Are
they kidding? That is my idea of a perfect day.
Happiness is not a right. It is an achievement.
Yeah, I think that's the guy. Thanks Judith. Story was that she caught
him in bed with a man, but who knows if that's true. Supposedly he
married her because he needed a beard and because of her fame. The other
rumor was that she had no idea he was gay when she married him. I lived
in Austin back in 1985, so I'm a bit fuzzy on the details. The whole
thing always seemed so sad to me.

I'm going out from lurking to answer this one. Jim Henson died of a virulent
form of pneumonia, not AIDS. He apparently had been sick for a days with
what he thought was a cold and didn't seek medical help. By the time he
finally sought help, it was too late. I remember this quite clearly, because
for the next year or two I made damn sure my husband went to see his doctor
when any cold seemed to last too long. When my husband tried to brush it off,
I said: "Remember Jim Henson?" (who is still sorely missed).

IIRC, there was talk later of poppers (amyl nitrate) being involved.

She married the rock singer of "? and the Mysterians" who did the old
song "96 tears"??
He's not an actor though.
Why does that matter?

I had heard Jim Henson died of a streptococcal infection, or flesh-eating
disease. This is the first I've heard it was AIDS.
He's not an actor though.

Neither is Jim Henson. Didn't Peter Allen also die of AIDS?
I may be wrong but wasn't Jim Henson a fairly prolific voice actor?

Whoever said Amanda Blake ("Miss Kitty") was correct. Also, Wayland
Flowers of "Wayland & Madame". Less known except to cult movie fans,
Cookie Mueller (of several John Waters films such as "Pink Flamingoes and
"Female Trouble"). And, I'm assuming you mean "TV/movie actors", since
hundreds of stage/Broadway personalities have perished (Michael Bennett,
producer of "A Chorus Line", off the top of my head).
One way to find out about someone is to see if he/she has a panel in the
NAMES Project Quilt. Now, obviously, that is not a comprehensive list AND
it is possible that someone could have a panel and not really have died of
AIDS, but usually, panels are made by someone who knew the person and thus
would have known. The entire Quilt is searchable at www.aidsquilt.org

I always wondered about Andy Kaufman - comedian - actor - wrestler(?). He died
from a very rare form of lung cancer - a type not associated with smoking. I
believe this cancer is also associated with AIDS.

I recall reading that Jim Henson died of mad-cow disease <Jajov-Rickove
Syndrome iThink is the medical term for it.>
I do know it's a very quick and vicous infection. In Britian they slughted
thousands of cows that were infected, the disease crossed over to
humans.

...well, he also was in THE LOVED ONE, so at the least he had a SAG card...
...same for Della Barris, Chuck's daughter and a supporting player in THE
GONG SHOW MOVIE, who appears to have OD'd as a result of an HIV-related

...and, tho I don't think he was in any movies (correct me if I'm wrong

I'll toss in the name of Kenny Everett...

I also remember him fondly from the first thing I saw him in, something
