purchase while dining at Megu in TriBeCa, sparking rumors that they had
finally gotten engaged. A rep for DiCaprio declined comment on the
apartment, but denied the couple is betrothed.
--IS it still "cheating" if the stripper keeps her dress on? Sting
apparently doesn't think so. The soft-rocking singer, who's married to
Trudie Styler, spent several hours at New York Dolls strip club on
Murray Street in the company of two dancers - but asked them to keep
their gowns while they lavished him and his driver with lap dances and
neck massages. We're told Sting, who drank only bottled water during
the fully-clothed frolic, took a special liking to a blond Slovenian
sexpot named Anna. The former Police chief plunked down several hundred
bucks to be pampered by Anna and an Israeli-born babe.

abuzz yesterday with paparazzi footage of what appeared to be a naked

yesterday evening, it had already been taken down. Stay tuned.
--EDITORS gasped when veteran model Stella Tennant walked down the
runway at Dior's show at the Grand Palais in Paris Tuesday night. "She
looks more beautiful than ever," said one observer of the aristocratic
British beauty who hasn't been seen on the catwalk for a while as she
raised her kids, designed children's knitwear and occasionally starred
in Burberry ad campaigns. "Wonder if she's an emergency fill-in for
Kate Moss," said another. We wonder if Burberry, which canned Moss over
the infamous cocaine pictures, will have the same idea.

--"TODAY" show chipmunk Katie Couric is nibbling on a new man. She's

magazine. "She understands. She knows I miss my wife." (Couric lost her
husband, Jay Monahan, to colon cancer in 1998.) But as sweet as Katie
seems, she left at least one ex with a broken heart when she dumped him
earlier this year. Back in February, Couric devastated trumpet player
Chris Botti when she left him after several months of dating to get
back together with ex-boyfriend Tom Werner, co-head of Carsey/Werner TV
production company. A friend of Botti's told PAGE SIX at the time that
the trumpeter was "devastated" and felt like Katie had "used him to
make Tom jealous." An NBC spokeswoman says she does not comment on
Couric's personal life.

engaged to Tim, doesn't mean she had her pick of roles in his movies.
"You think I'd get it easy, since we do have one child together. But

--ONE OF my favorite ac tors is Alan Alda, who made "M*A*S*H*" immortal
on television. Only recently there was a rave in this space for his
Tony-nominated performance on Broadway in "Glengarry Glen Ross." (And
he was Oscar-nominated last year for "The Aviator.") Now Alan has
written a memoir titled "Never Have Your Dog Stuffed: And Other Things
I've Learned." It is a cornucopia of delight and informed curiosity -
beginning with this line: "My mother didn't try to stab my father until
I was 6, but she must have shown signs of oddness before that." This
burden notwithstanding, Alan received many delights in his childhood
because his handsome father (Robert, yet to become famous in "Guys and
Dolls") was a straight man in burlesque. So Alan spent his early years
on the road. He was babysat backstage by beautiful half-naked chorus
girls, and he watched the hoary old jokes of vaudeville and burlesque
played over and over. This is a wonderful book of fun and philosophy
from a genial good-hearted man at the peak of his creativity. I never
knew till I read this memoir that Alan once served as a doorman in a
toga at the famous restaurant The Forum of the 12 Caesars! In my Sports
Illustrated days, I ate there often, and I must have encountered my
idol before he became a star. (He was probably a good doorman; he's
good at everything, including staying happily married to the wonderful
Arlene.)

--Lowdown's new guest pop music critic? It's convicted felon Michael
Lohan, who - in a letter from the Collins Correctional Facility outside
Buffalo - raves about daughter Lindsay's new single, "Confessions of a
Broken Heart." "The lyrics not only brought me to tears, but they tell
you what kind of a loving and caring daughter Lindsay truly is," writes
the 45-year-old Lohan, serving up to four years for drunken driving,
contempt of court and beating his brother-in-law bloody with a shoe.
"While I always considered and expressed how truly blessed Lindsay, as
well as my other children are, I never realized how blessed I AM to
have a daughter as amazing as Lindsay." In the song, Lindsay sings: "I
wear all your old clothes, your polo sweater/ I dream of another you,
the one who would never (never)/ Leave me alone to pick up the pieces/
A daddy to hold me, that's what I needed/ (So) why'd you have to go ...
/ Daughter to father, daughter to father/ I don't know you, but I still
want to." Michael adds in the letter, "Hold onto my shirt honey, soon
enough you'll be able to hold on to me! ... While the media and press
love to cover Lindsay enjoying her life and successes, I hope now they
will cover the kind of heart this beautiful and gifted young lady
really has." In response to Michael's record review, Lindsay's PR rep,
Leslie Sloane Zelnik, told Lowdown yesterday: "We never, ever doubted
Lindsay's love for her father. This song is in fact a cry to her dad,
saying, 'I love you, but I'm not happy with what you did to me and the
family.' "

But this one dude lifted his shirt and his [breasts] were bigger than

grade school, where the best players got picked first and the ones that
weren't good got left out," a Lowdown spy told me. But co-executive
producer Rob Dauber said that wasn't true. "That's an unfortunate
perception and that is never the case," he said. "We have an audience
department that works really hard to be accommodating to people. Martha
has told us that she wants every person to feel welcome and have a
special experience from the minute they walk in."

--A multimillion-dollar mansion that played home to fictional
characters in such movies as Hollywood Homicide,Just Married and Rocky
V has been destroyed by fire. A Wednesday night blaze gutted the
21-room mansion and caused an estimated $15 million in damage, Pasadena
Fire Department spokeswoman Lisa Derderian said Thursday. No injuries
were reported. The fire department initially reported the mansion was
used in the 1960's Batman TV series as the home of Bruce Wayne. But
Derderian said Thursday that officials were confused about the location
and Wayne Manor, about two blocks away, was not damaged. The cause of
the fire was under investigation. The 12,000-square-foot home on 3.3
acres of land has been under renovation. About 75 firefighters worked
to prevent embers from igniting brush behind the home. A police
helicopter hovered above the site to guard against flare-ups. "There's
a very large brush area behind that residence," Derderian said. "It had
the potential to turn into a very volatile event."

--AFTER strife with Italian cops in Milan last week, 50 Cent and G Unit
have found yet more bother - this time involving riot police. Rapper
Fiddy and his crew got into a fracas with fans who tried to storm the
tour bus after his gig in the South of France on Tuesday night. British
tourist Paul Rossiter, who was at the Nice concert, tells us: "The fans
saw the bus at the lights and that was it - they rushed it. They were
pulling the doors open and trying to climb in. "Security started
throwing them back on the road and yelling at them 'get the f***
back'." Apparently some of Fiddy's crew then got out and started
fighting with the teens. An onlooker adds: "Bottles were flying - it
was very scary. The riot police turned up in helmets, waving batons and
scattered the crowd." The singer then went on to Monaco to party at the
exclusive Jimmy'z nightclub. A fellow guest reveals: "They spent a
fortune on champagne. They were spraying it about and larking around.
"When you consider a vodka and coke costs £25 there, Fiddy must have
money to burn." One night In Da Club to remember.

don't want him to ever use that word." Given the size and shape of you,
it's unlikely 'fat', 'tubby' or 'larda**e' would feature too strongly

--Tomorrow night could be the rock event of all time. John Lennon's
ex-mistress, May Pang, throws a party for Lennon's first wife,
Cynthia, at The Cutting Room. Roy Orbison's witty and smart widow,
Barbara, is a guest. So is Liz Derringer, ex-wife of Rick. Cynthia's
memoir, "John," is a hit here in the U.S. and the UK. And Sunday,
Lennon would have been 65 years old. Meanwhile, Yoko Ono is performing
a concert this weekend in Japan, she says, to commemorate the 25th
anniversary of John's murder. There must be a language problem.
Lennon was killed on the night of December 8, 1980. Sunday is his
birthday. But maybe it's a Japanese custom we don't know about. And
at last, "The Concert for Bangladesh" is coming out on DVD. It only
took 34 years for a proper video. Apple Records and UNICEF will host a
premiere on Oct. 19 in Burbank at the Steve Ross Theater. Ringo Starr,
Billy Preston and George Harrison's lovely widow, Olivia, are
scheduled to attend. Hopefully, the producers have also invited Bob
Dylan, Leon Russell, Jim Keltner and all the musicians and backup
singers who donated their fees that day.

--"Innocent Voices" screenwriter Oscar Torres found redemption during
shooting of the film about his embattled childhood in El Salvador,
reports exec producer Lawrence Bender. The film, set during the civil
war in El Salvador in the '80s, chronicles Torres' mother's struggle to
prevent him from being recruited into the Salvadoran Army. "They'd put
kids in the army at 12," says Bender, the producer of such high-profile
projects as "Good Will Hunting," "Pulp Fiction" and both "Kill Bill"
movies. "Early on, our director, Luis Mandoki, asked Oscar, 'Did you
ever kill somebody?' and Oscar said, 'It's not really an important part
of the movie.' They got in a big fight about it, Oscar stormed out,
Luis threw a chair across the room ... Then, a little while later,
Oscar came back crying and said, 'I picked up a gun and couldn't shoot
it.' " Bender explains, "He felt so ashamed that he didn't actually
kill those soldiers. A part of his feeling, growing up, was this shame
because he didn't make enough of a difference as a kid. Writing the
screenplay was transformational for Oscar because he felt he was giving
back in a way he wasn't able to before." Bender says he's hoping the
film will focus attention on the plight of children in war-ravaged
countries. "This movie about a little boy and his mother in El Salvador
is universal, because we have kids in armed conflict in Columbia,
Uganda, Iraq, the Middle East ... It really could be taking place
anywhere." "Innocent Voices" opens Oct. 14 in New York, L.A., San
Francisco and Chicago.
--Reba McEntire admits it wasn't easy to follow in Lucille Ball's
grape-stained footsteps for the final digest-sized issue of TV Guide,
which hits stands today as the magazine changes to full-size format.
She re-created Lucy's grape-crushing episode in the photo, part of a
set of nine collector covers re-enacting iconic TV scenes of the past.
"I was a nervous wreck doing it because when we shot that picture, I
was kind of just standing still in a barrel," recounts the WB series
and country music star, an avowed Lucy fan. "But when Lucille shot it,
she was running around this huge barrel. I had no idea it would be so
hard to re-enact it standing still." She adds, "I talked with Desi
Arnaz Jr. after I shot that photo, and he was telling me that Lucille
would do everything as true to form as possible to get into it."
--Former "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" co-star James Marsters injured his
ankle on the set of "Smallville" in Vancouver last week, when he was
busy "having a fight in the Fortress of Solitude" - as in Superman's
famous ice-bound getaway. However, "I was up 30 seconds after I fell,
running on it. You always get the shot; you can't compromise that," he
says. Outside of the pain, "I'm loving it," he says of his new series
incarnation. Marsters has come aboard to play arch villain Brainiac in
the series, but for now, he'd rather just talk about Brainiac's
alter-ego, Professor Milton Fine. "I am trying to wake Clark Kent up,"
he says wryly. "Like many political science professors, I am trying to
open my students' minds."

--The guest list for Diane von Furstenberg's intimate luncheon in her
elegant, new all-white Melrose Avenue boutique was filled with stylish
young stars who love her new clothing, accessories and jewelry lines.
But von Furstenberg is used to that. Back in the '70s, her wrap jersey
dresses were sold by Fred Hayman on Rodeo Drive and worn by
then-trendsetters Ali MacGraw and Candice Bergen. Von Furstenberg's new
lunch bunch included Rita Wilson, Jessica Capshaw, "Vegas" star Marsha
Thomason, actresses Kelly Lynch, Melissa George, Natasha Henstridge,
Sarah Wynter, Julie Delpy, Julie Bowen, Taryn Manning and Teri Polo,
most wearing her reintroduced classic wrap dress. Reality TV star
Janice Dickinson, always louder than life, mugged it up for pictures.
Nia Vardalos caught up with her pal, Rita Wilson. Lisa Rinna remarked
that DVF is a such a hot seller in her Sherman Oaks and Calabasas Belle
Gray boutiques that "I can barely keep them in stock!" No "Desperate
Housewives" at von Furstenberg's intimate lunch (only Teri Hatcher's
stylist, Vincent Boucher, was there) but Andrea Bowen, Teri's daughter
on the show, showed up
for von Furstenberg's evening cocktail party later that day, along with
"Nip/Tuck" star Joely Richardson, "Gilmore Girls' " Alexis Bledel, star
stylist Rachel Zoe and famed foodie Wolfgang Puck. One Desperate
Housewife was seen out on the town. Emmy winner Felicity Huffman and
hubby William H. Macy hit the Williams-Sonoma Home Store's swanky
soiree in West Hollywood. Seen petting suede sofas, testing chairs,
cooing over crystal, nibbling on caviar and sipping bubbly: Minnie
Driver, in a miniskirt and boots, Bonnie Hunt, Kelly Lynch and Ashley
Scott, as well as socialites Anna Getty and Nancy Davis. Huffman was
surprised by the lack of kitchen appliances in the ultra-elegant new
store. "I really came to find a blender," she confessed. "But hey,
maybe I'll buy a couch instead."
--If Sharon Stone ever tires of acting, she'd be a great auctioneer. At
the Macy's Passport '05 Gala AIDS benefit, Sharon turned one auction
item, a half-hour lesson with tennis champ Pete Sampras, into a bidding
war. First she brought Pete on stage at the Barker Hangar in Santa
Monica, and then she upped the ante, stretching his court time to an
hour, tossing in lunch and a tour of his trophy room. The result: two
packages for a total of $35,000. "I'd pay that much to see his
trophies," she quipped. When the clasp on her backless Elsie Katz denim
gown opened, Sharon joked, "You know how it is. You take your clothes
off for a movie, and they just keep coming off!" But she turned her
wardrobe malfunction into an auction bonus item. And a man actually
paid $500 to come on stage and fasten Sharon's dress. Stone's auction
tally? $166,000 for the evening, which raised over $1.4 million total.
Watching the fund-raising fun: Venus Williams, Wilmer Valderrama, Marc
Anthony and Jennifer Lopez, whose Sweetface line was modeled during the
