FORMER "COSBY" KID, Lisa Bonet, has done the most difficult thing a mother
could do: She's given up custody of her child.
The 33-year-old actress agonized for months before finally deciding that
daughter Zoe, 12, should live with her rock star dad, Lenny Kravitz. Lisa, who
portrayed seductively charming Denise Huxtable on NBC's "The Cosby Show,"
divorced Lenny in 1993.
"Lisa loves Zoe with all her heart, but she also knows it's for the best," said
a source close to the star.
"Lisa has never really gotten over her breakup with Lenny," the source
revealed. "Lisa disappeared from the scene and tried to establish a private
life her herself and Zoe. But the more Lisa tried to hide from the world, the
more Zoe wanted to break loose!"
Zoe began spending more and more time with her father, and finally the child
asked if she could stay with Lenny permanently.
"Zoe loves traveling with her dad and watching him perform instead of sitting
around the house with Lisa," the source said. "It wasn't that Zoe didn't want
to be with Lisa -- she loves her mother -- it was just more fun to live with
her father!
"Lisa knows she will see Zoe regularly -- but it's not going to be the same.
"Lenny is a good father and Lisa won't have to worry about Zoe being well taken
care of. But Zoe's her only child -- and no matter what, it hurts!"

And we all know that a 12-year-old should get to pick whatever lifestyle is
more FUN for her. I think that's on page 269 of Parenting for Dummies.
Volfie -> sounds like Lisa has an agenda of her own and doesn't give two sh*ts
about her daughter to me
***Doesn't the child go to school? How's she going to travel around with dad?
And why's she sitting around a house anyway?

LB was in "High Fidelity," so it looks like she's still trying to have an
acting career, despite her declared intention "to establish a private life
her herself and Zoe," but she hasn't been in much else since she left "The
Cosby Show." What is going on with her?
Just playing devil's advocate here (see nickname) but I wonder if she did it to
avoid a custody battle? They are good and useful things when it's a matter of
taking/keeping a child away from a dangerous or irresponsible parent but often
they're more a battle of wills. Nobody ever really wins in the "I'll show YOU"
kind of custody battle, least of all the kid.

Lenny basically admitted that his touring and cheating broke them up. But from
what I could see he still carries a torch for her and vice versa. I really
don't buy this story that Lisa is just handing her kid over no questions asked.
Everything I've ever seen and read about her made it seem like she is a very
committed mom. There must be a little more going on.

Lenny fooled around on the side when he was touring, and she left him.
Apparently he hasn't gotten over the breakup either.

In the same vein (sort of): Don't many teenagers in 'broken' families go
through this? "I don't like the rules Mom has set, so I'll go live with
Dad, cuz he's really cool...when I see him", old enough to rebel, too
young to know the difference...

Yeah that happens. And quite often they get to live with the non-custodial
parent and find out it isn't quite the bed of roses they thought it would be.
Mom/Dad may be real cool about letting them stay up late when they're over for
a night or two but it's a different story when it's a full time deal.

.... I think he cheated on her but - I have heard him express regret
and desire to reconcile so - if they're so love-sick for each other
there must be something else keeping them apart.

I thought it was because she was trying to resart her acting career. Have to
admit, she looked pretty bad in High Fidelity. She seems pretty flaky, too.
She was credited as Lisa Bonet in HF, though.
My take:
She might have drug or health problems or maybe, in a best case scenario, a
midlife crisis. The kid might want to go to him in hopes that he'll make her
enough of a priority.
Good Luck.
I don't think she has the _money_ to raise her daughter....the Enquirer
several years ago published some photos of a house Lisa was renting
(that she had been kicked out of for not paying rent) and there was no
furniture in the house except for a mattress on the floor, no pictures
hanging on the walls, and nothing in the fridge. Sad, really.
Lenny's income is probably much higher than what Lisa makes (is she even
WORKING?) and it was probably a tough, but necessary decision to make.
Most likely financial.

The thing that is probably keeping them apart is THEM.
It wouldn't be the first couple who loved each other, but couldn't live
together. Sometimes the combination of personalities is like throwing
gasoline on a fire.
