ROBERT Wagner is furious at Fred Astaire's widow, Robyn, for not cooperating
with a recent tribute to her husband in London. The tribute, organized by
Astaire's daughter Ava, included no film clips, because in exchange for
permission, Robyn wanted special credit that would have thrown the whole
production off. "It was a great evening, truly wonderful, and what a shame
Robyn couldn't have been more gracious," Wagner, who participated in the
tribute, told the Hollywood Reporter. "If Fred were alive he'd be horrified . .
. It's inconceivable that someone who knew Fred such a short time would deny
permission to his own daughter having to do with her father's work . . .
Putting up a roadblock of any kind was mean-spirited and in very bad taste."

think a Lincoln Center Tribute was all screwed up because of Robin Astaire's
clip demands. It was doubly distressing for poor Ginger because apparently she
got on 100X better with Robin Astaire than with Fred Astaire's first wife, who
was notoriously jealous and possessive. Short leash does not even cover it,
yet she had no cause. My uncle knew Robyn Smith when she was a jockey and says
she was a bitch, but he's not exactly enlightened.

She's a greedy, pathetic bitch. The event was Ginger's induction into the
Kennedy Center Honors, and they couldn't show any clips of her with Fred. But
Robyn jumped at the chance to approve images of Fred dancing with a vaccuum on
Dirt Devil commercials. So much for protecting his dignity.

Whenever Robin Astaire is brought up, in magazine or conversation,
there's always a mention of her disturbing childhood. Anyone got the
goods on that?
All I know is that horses was the only peace she knew, and that Fred
pitied her a great deal and tried to protect her in the marriage.
