Hollywood star Michelle Pfeiffer is officially the most beautiful woman in the
world. Her facial features exactly match a complex 'beauty formula' drawn up by
California plastic surgeon Dr. Stephen Marquardt. The doctor has worked out
that the secret of true beauty is 1.618 - an equation which scientists have
dubbed the PHI ratio. He's worked out the ideal width of a mouth is 1.618 times
the width of the nose. And every human facial feature can be matched to the
same ratio. Using these calculations the doctor has drawn up a 'perfect beauty'
diagram and discovered that Michelle, 43, is the most beautiful. Dr Marquardt
says, "Think about it. If you were looking at a picture of Michelle next to a
picture of, say, Julia Roberts, which would you prefer? Just from their faces,
you'd be most likely to be attracted to Michelle."

> Yes Michelle is beautiful but mathematically perfect? The thing I've
always liked about her is her looks is her asymmetrical upper lip. It's
similar to Laura Flynn Boyle's crooked face. LFB looks like she got punched
on one side of her face. Or Audrey Hepburn's little chin and out of
proportion nose, she resembles a cartoon deer. Or Terri Hatcher's bovine
eyes and big goofy grin. could go on but I'm sure everyone is sick of my
rants so I'm trying to get briefer. Point is, asymmetry in a good looking
woman is endearing. Cold Nazi-Aryan fashion model perfection is either
boring or spooky. And I don't mean specifically Kraut girls like Heidi,
Claudia or Tatiana all of whom are just the tiniest bit homely. But
incidentally, put them in a face line up with Michelle and they are become
ordinary looking.

He should know...he's probably her plastic surgeon!

ps-my sympathy and prayers go out to those hurting and overwhelmed by the San
Diego school shooting. My you all have peace.
Willy, I gotta disagree with you on this one. Hands down, the most
overrated woman in Hollywood is:
Julia Roberts.
But... I'll agree with ya that Pfeiffer and Stone are overrated also. Man,
who the fuck cares what a plastic surgeon thinks about beauty? He's
probably trying to drum up business for himself....
>"Most beautiful"? I think not..She might be attractive but that's it.
I agree with you. I wouldn't call her the worlds most beautiful. Some of my
choices probably wouldn't qualify either, so I think it's just about personal
opinion. I think it's kind of creepy this doctor has found some mathimatical
formula for a perfect face. I also agree that Catherine Zeta Jones (as tired
as I am of her and MD) is more "beautiful" than Pfeiffer. In my opinion I
think Charlize Theron is also *one* of the most beautiful.

the plastic surgeon is talking about facial symmetry and not individual
features. His formula could produce a very sterile look. Your face could
conform to the formula but your eyes could be sort of plain, your mouth kind of
plain. I think it helps if you have a certain photogenic beauty plus some kind
of sensuality or specific beauty in the individual features, gorgeous eyes in
their shape, color and lashes, not just their size and position in relation to
the rest of the face, beautiful skin. The plastic surgeon is describing the
foundation but without anything else to it the person might not be anything
more than blandly attractive.

I find my husband and I often disagree on who is more beautiful, or on
who is beautiful period. Maybe it's a guy/girl thing. But although
Michelle
Pfeiffer's face is "beautiful", I think there are many women who are far
more
pleasing to look at. Amy mentioned Charlize Theron and Catherine Zeta
Jones - I agree completely. They both light up the screen, and have
something
in their faces beyond plain old bone structure that makes you want to look
at them some more. Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelley had it too. Something
a little different. Not to mention beautiful skin and a healthy look in
general,
which is something that Michelle Pfeiffer lacks (IMO). I saw her in, what
was it, Dangerous Liasons? She played a character who dies of a broken
heart. Even before her heart was broken she had red eyes, pale skin.
Michelle Pfeiffer always looks like she's been crying recently and will
break
in two if the wind picks up.

Scoff at publicity-seeking plastic-surgeons all you want, but dont
scoff at Phi, aka the Golden Section. People have benn studing
its beauty for milleniums. Its the proportion by
which the Parthenon was constructed, Chartres Cathedreal built and
Michaelangelo's paintings mapped out. It is indeed
a building block of the human face and babies respond
with pleasure to their mother's faces before they
respond to any other shape. For humans mom's face is the
soul of beauty. Psychological experiments show that humans, adults
and children,respond more positively to
shapes based on Phi than to those not.
-----
(The philosophical, mathematical, psychologiocal, artistic and
architectural ramifications of The Golden Section was the subject
of a large exhibit I did years ago--- so I am not completely
barking out of my rear end in the second paragraph. (The first
paragraph maybe, but not the second;-).)

Both painting and photography lie and put 3 dimensions into 2. But
painting can compensates(as can photography now when played with enough;-)by
controlling emphasis. Live beauty has soul which neither medium can
represent. Film can convey the beauty of the movement of expressions,
which is if anything even
more compelling than the sight of a still face. But painting can bring
out the light of the eye, the feel of the person, abit more soul.
For me peopel like Pfeiffer have emenated something more than
perfect cheekbones or good skin. Theres a sense of translucence,
as if reality is reaching thru the flesh to signel something more
important. If an actor or actress has this quality, they can be
plain, attractive or drop-dead gorgeous, it dosnst really matter;
the viewer will perceive beauty.
I dont know if thats charisma, good acting, star power or what--
but you find it in real life as well as on the screen.
Or as F Scott FitzGerald said of a girl
"She was not beautiful but it took her only about ten seconds
to persuade people that she was."
Beauty is happiness in material form, and therefore, ultimitely a mystery.
