> Wayans Endured Major Makeover for 'White Chicks'

>
> LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - It's hard being a rich white chick. Just ask
> two black guys.
>
> In particular, talk to comic actors Shawn and Marlon Wayans whose
> film, "White Chicks," debuts in U.S. theaters Wednesday.
>
> Beyond the $10,000 of make-up, blond wigs, fake breasts, mini-skirts,
> tight pants, high heels and blue contact lenses needed by the pair for
> their on-screen transformation, the Wayans brothers had to get one
> particular piece of the opposite sex's anatomy perfect -- a feminine
> top lip.
>
> In "White Chicks," the Wayans, whose work includes the "Scary Movie"
> horror film spoofs, play bungling FBI agents who go undercover as
> socialites Brittany and Tiffany Wilson to thwart a kidnapping.
>
> Each brother spent five hours every morning allowing artists to apply
> facial prosthetics to cover their top lips, foreheads, chins and
> cheeks, then their noses.
>
> "The secret to making this make-up work was the top lip," said make-up
> artist Greg Cannon. "The only thing on their faces that isn't an
> appliance is their lower lip."
>
> To hide the prosthetics, specially designed wigs had to cover the
> entire side of their heads. "It was difficult," Marlon admitted. "But
> we had the mentality that this was war."
>
> Directed by their brother Keenen Ivory Wayans, Shawn and Marlon play
> agents Kevin and Marcus Copeland, who have not gotten a single
> assignment right since joining the FBI.
>
> About to lose their jobs, the Copelands are given the relatively easy
> task of protecting the Wilsons on the final weekend of the social
> season in the Hamptons on Long Island.
>
> Soon after picking up the Wilsons, however, the boys wreck their car.
> Cursed with a scratched nose and a busted lip, the Wilsons refuse to
> be seen in public, so the Copelands take their place.
>
> BOYS WILL BE...GIRLS?
>
> In the movie, the Copelands' transformation into the white Wilsons
> happens in one fast sequence, but behind the scenes it took hours.
>
> "It's hard enough to make male to female. Taking African-American men
> to white females is extremely difficult," said Cannon, who transformed
> Robin Williams into Mrs. Doubtfire for the hit 1993 film of the same
> name.
>
> Cannon and four assistants started by making life-mask sculptures of
> the Wayans on which to experiment. Six weeks, seven masks, countless
> wigs and six screen tests later, even Cannon was surprised at the
> result.
>
> "The first time I saw Marlon in full make-up with the contacts in, was
> the first time in my life I've been absolutely shocked," said Cannon.
> "And then I heard his voice, it really absolutely freaked me out.
> There was no trace of Marlon."
>
> The brothers did voice work to create the high-pitched tones of
> Brittany and Tiffany.
>
> Shawn shed 30 pounds (13.6 kg), and Marlon trimmed to fit into tight
> tops and thigh-grazing mini-skirts. "I lost a midget," Marlon joked.
>
> But the tough tests came in public. While on location, Marlon would
> use a men's restroom. "I would stand next to a dude at the urinal ...
> and totally blow his mind," he said.
>
> Now, the pair have to fool audiences, particularly women.
>
> "It's a universal theme," Keenen said. "guys taking women for granted.
> Women worldwide saying 'Be me for a day."'
>
> The Wayans learned that lesson first-hand.
which means that it will do big business at the box office!
I have to admit the trailer looks hysterical.
Mez
some of the wayans bros sound so sexually conflicted -
- this was probably the realization of a life-long fantasy for marlon.

i want to hear (not personally, please) from all the posters who feel this
movie is or is not "racist".
i promise i will not take sides at this juncture, or offer an opinion of my
own.
i think this formerly tabboo topic is gaining purchase with the masses as a
hot issue...
there is always talk about color, culture, privilege, discrimination and,
controversially enuf, "reverse racism" on this and other ngs.
sometimes folks react very strongly to these things, but other times it's all
"it's just entertainment (or real life) - where's your sense of humor?"
so, i want to know!
what are the rules?
what is "racist" and what is "not"
who is "allowed" to joke about these things, and who is "not allowed"?
when are we supposed to be "politically correct" and when are we allowed to
"just be honest"?
now, don't pretend you don't have an opinion, mary.
y'all dance around the issue constantly...
this is a good time to spell it out!

It's a Wayans Brothers movie. I guarantee you that there will be
inappropriate bathroom humor, titty jokes, and there will be at least
one scene in which one of the Wayan 'sisters' will make some reference
to the stereotype about Black men being especially well hung.
Everything about the movie will be in bad taste and the teens will
love it.
Racist? That didn't even cross my mind. The Wayans Brothers, based
on the few movies I've seen in which they appeared, seem to be equal
opportunity offenders. Personally, I like that sort of humor - if
you're going to make fun of someone, make fun of everyone.
Did anyone think that MARCI X was racist because it made fun of all
the traditional stereotypes about Jewish American Princessess and
Black gangsta rappers? I thought that movie was a riot! People need
to lighten up.

Born to count beans.
No, it really isn't a "good time to spell it out." And the only one
"dancing around the issue" is you. Nice troll that you are.
This is a GOSSIP newsgroup. We're here to talk about celebrity GOSSIP.
If you want discussions about race, culture, etc (most of which you
pull out of your ass), go to alt.soc.african-american, or whatever.
And go read a book somewhere else.
