COUNTRY songbird Tanya Tucker and her live-in love Jerry Laseter got into a
knock- down, drag-out brawl on a Sunday morning -- over going to church!
The battling lovebirds tumbled down a flight of stairs, with Tanya screaming:
"He's going to kill me! He's going to kill me!" as Laseter ripped off her
shirt.
Her terrified nanny and 13-month-old daughter Layla hid in a closet, while her
two older children, aged 8 and 11, fled next door to call 911.
Cops hauled Laseter, a 38-year-old songwriter and baby Layla's father, off to
jail on domestic assault charges after the violent incident.
He's now free on bail and facing two years in jail.
"They told me it started because Tanya wanted to go to church and Laseter
didn't," Cheatham County sheriff's deputy Shawn Greer, who investigated the
incident, told The ENQUIRER. "He got jealous and enraged because she decided to
go without him.
"They got into a fight and she ended up scratched and with her shirt torn off."
In his report, Greer wrote that the couple "wrestled and both fell down the
stairs."
He also said Tanya had a "red mark on upper lip, fresh bruising on right upper
chest and right upper arm, fresh scrape marks on both shoulders and blood on
her clothing."
An insider added: "The children were terrified. At one point Tanya was
screaming, 'He's going to kill me! He's going to kill me!' "
Added Greer: "The nanny -- a lady in her 50s -- was so scared she took the
infant child (Layla) and hid in a closet.

FAST FACT!
Tanya was treated for alcoholism at the Betty Ford Center in 1989.
------------------------------------------
"At first Tanya made son Beau and his 11-year-old sister Presley go outside.
"But they came back in and saw the fight.
"The two children finally ran to the next door neighbors' house and called
police."
Cops hauled Laseter off in handcuffs on June 28 after a judge heard about the
March 12 brawl.
The same judge had ordered Laseter to attend anger management classes after he
was charged with domestic violence in November 1999. Tanya told police he
pushed her into a bedpost in that incident.
"The judge ordered the case retired on condition that Laseter attend anger
management classes and report to the judge on his progress," said a source.
"Apparently the classes didn't work!"
On May 17, Laseter failed to show up for a court date on the March 12 assault
charge.
"Instead he faxed a letter to the judge from a doctor in Mesa, Ariz., saying he
was under his care," said the source.
"The doctor was a plastic surgeon and his bill showed a $6,000 charge for a
nose job. The judge didn't like that excuse and issued a warrant for his
arrest."
That warrant showed up on June 28 when Laseter had a court date to report on
his anger management classes -- and he was dragged off to jail.
Laseter posted bail, but he could be jailed for up to a year on both the
assault charge and failure to appear.
