'Dallas' Actor Dennis Patrick Dies in House Fire
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Dennis Patrick, a veteran actor best known for recurring
roles on the television series "Dallas" and "Dark Shadows," died Sunday when
his house caught fire. He was 84.
An autopsy was pending.
Neighbors said Patrick was battling cancer and needed kidney dialysis. Fire
investigators believe he may have died from smoke inhalation.
It took about 50 firefighters to extinguish the blaze that broke out at 1:17
p.m. in the 1937-era wood home on Torreyson Drive in the Hollywood Hills, said
Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey. Smoke billowing from the house could
be seen for miles.
Patrick, who lived alone, was found dead with his dog next to him, said fire
Chief Daniel McCarty.
Many of Patrick's roles leaned toward the macabre, including appearances on
TV's "The Twilight Zone," "The Alfred Hitchcock Hour'' and the campy late '60s
daytime soap opera "Dark Shadows." His recent appearances include the 1988 TV
miniseries "War and Remembrance" and the 1994 movie, "The Air Up There."

He'll be missed.
>Dennis played *two* roles on Dark Shadows.
I remember him on Dark Shadows. That was my favorite soap back in the day.
But this is eerie - two actors die a couple days apart from a fire in their
house. First it was Theresa Graves and now Dennis Patrick.

What was his role? I remember those days, racing to the tv Friday nights...

Yes. He first appeared as Jason McGuire, an old friend of Paul Stoddard,
the long-lost husband of Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (played by star Joan
Bennett). Jason was a charming, but evil man. Having convinced Elizabeth
years before that she had murdered Paul, Jason blackmailed her. (Jason also
brought his friend, Willie Loomis, to town. Willie was the chap who looked
for buried jewelry in the wrong coffin and released vampire Barnabas
Collins). A few years later, Dennis returned to play Paul Stoddard in
another storyline. Dennis attended several Dark Shadows conventions and was
loved by DS fans for his charm, sense of humor and great storytelling
ability.
