NATIONAL ENQUIRER....

As the century's most celebrated entertainer was laid peacefully to rest -- the
world was unaware of  a nasty, bizarre drama being played out behind the scenes
between Frank Sinatra's widow and his children.

The ENQUIRER revealed last week how Frank tried everything he could to keep
peace between his wife of 22 years and his children, but a bitter clash erupted
as family members began funeral arrangements.

During an incredible 24-hour standoff, grieving Barbara Sinatra slammed the
phone down on screaming stepdaughter Nancy, Tina Sinatra stormed out of a
meeting with her stepmother -- and Barbara tauntingly waved Frank's will in
their faces.

Nancy, 57, even threatened to boycott the moving last rites for her beloved
father, The ENQUIRER has learned.

"Believe it or not, it  was over whether Frank Sinatra, who never served in the
military, should get a funeral with full military honors!" a family source told
The ENQUIRER.

Nancy had gotten permission from Washington officials for a military honor
guard.  An irate Barbara called Nancy and told her: "I don't want a military
tribute."

The source said: "Nancy started arguing, then screaming -- and Barbara hung up
the phone."

In a panic, Nancy asked 49-year-old sister Tina and their attorney Robert
Finkelstein to go to Barbara's Beverly Hills home and try to change her mind.

"And the face-to-face meeting was a disaster from the moment they walked into
the house," said the source. "When they got there, the first thing Barbara did
was wave Frank's will in their faces -- and say tauntingly, 'Good for me -- bad
for you!'

"Tina got into a huge fight with Barbara, ending up shouting at her -- then
storming out of the house.

"A frustrated Nancy told friends angrily, 'If she doesn't agree to the military
salute, I'm going to accompany Dad's body from the mortuary to the church --
and then I'm going home.' "

But hours before the funeral, Nancy gave in.

Nancy had already announced plans for the military-honors funeral on her Web
site and in an embarrassing moment, she had to remove all of that information
the very next day.

Nancy made the family rift crystal clear to astonished mourners when she
addressed a formal rosary service at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Beverly
Hills the evening of Tuesday, May 19.

An observer said she opened by saying: "When Barbara said it was O.K. to speak,
I thought, 'Golly, what am I going to say?' "

The observer said: "Nancy wanted to let everyone know in no uncertain terms
that she wasn't even sure that Barbara was even going to let her speak at her
own father's rosary service!"

The feud got so nasty it even sparked a battle over Frank's last words!

On her Web site, Nancy revealed that her father said, "I'm losing." Then he
died.

But columnist Cindy Adams claimed Barbara told her Frank's final words were: "I
don't want to go . . . I don't want to go . . . I want to be here for
Christmas."

What's more, a day after a dying Frank had been taken out of his bedroom --
Barbara allowed her son Robert Marx to move into the same bedroom, said another
longtime Sinatra friend.

"Her justification was that it was Bobby's room when he visited, before Frank
got too sick to go up and down the stairs to the master bedroom, and Barbara
moved him into Bobby's room.

"But Barbara knew her move would infuriate his kids -- and it did.

"When they went to Frank's funeral, Barbara and Frank's kids wouldn't even ride
in the same limo together.

" 'I put up with his pushy kids for Frank's sake,' Barbara said. 'Now his kids
can get lost.' "

And -- to paraphrase a line from a classic song by Ol' Blue Eyes -- the WORST
is yet to come!

Despite Frank's hope for harmony within his family, a clause in his will leaves
Barbara all of his rights in Sheffield Enterprises, which licenses Frank's name
and image on everything from neckties to pasta sauce.

"Frank's younger daughter Tina took over as chief executive of Sheffield last
year," said the family source.

"Now it looks like Barbara will be Tina's boss! If that happens, watch out for
fireworks that'll put the Fourth of July to shame."

Tina won't back away from a fight. She told friends pointedly, "I can't wait
for the first time she tells me what to do!"

{snip}

And thus the Sinatra family continues its tradition of class and
elegance, even after the loooong drawn out passing of their patriarch.
