NY POST/By KATE SHEEHY
------------------------------
Catherine Zeta-Jones, pregnant and drenched in diamonds, yesterday griped in
court that "stolen" photos of her nuptials made her dream day look like a big,
fat, geek wedding. Zeta-Jones, 33, said she was particularly horrified at one
renegade photo published in celebrity magazine Hello! of star hubby Michael
Douglas feeding her wedding cake at the lavish November 2000 affair at The
Plaza in New York.

"I did not want my husband shoving a spoon down my throat to be photographed .
. . It is offensive," Zeta-Jones sniffed to London's High Court, as Douglas sat
at their lawyers' bench, munching mints from a silver bowl brought especially
for the occasion.

Zeta-Jones insisted the couple sold the rights to the photos to another
magazine for $1.6 million because the spread "was going to be an overall look
into the life of us . . . in a classy way" - not because the powerhouse pair
was greedy.

"It [$1.6 million] is a lot of money maybe to a lot of people in this room, but
it is not that much for us," said Zeta-Jones, with diamonds on her ears, neck
and hands.

The couple is suing Hello! for printing a series of fuzzy, unauthorized shots
three days before rival magazine OK! was able to publish photos from the same
event - and which it had shelled out the $1.6 million for the rights to.

Lawyers for Hello! are arguing that the wedding became fair game in the
publishing world as soon as the couple inked the deal with OK! to "publicize"
it.

The fact that OK! also had permission to run the photos in syndication in
another 20 magazines only bolsters that argument, the defense said.

Zeta-Jones complained that not only was the quality of the unauthorized photos
"cheap and tacky" but "there are so many things that I wanted to keep secret"
from the camera that eventually showed up in the pages of Hello!

"There are certain moments of emotion, certain moments of embrace," she
explained.

When defense lawyer James Price produced photos published in OK! that included
the pair embracing, an obviously annoyed Zeta-Jones retorted:

"There is embracing, and there is embracing."

Her comment was followed by laughter in the courtroom.

SPECIAL TO THE NY DAILY NEWS

LONDON - A sneaky photographer spoiled Catherine Zeta-Jones' marital memories
when he snapped shots that made her look fat and frumpy, she told a British
court yesterday. "I remember sitting on the phone crying about the way our
memories of the wedding, which had seemed so wonderful, had suddenly soured,"
the "Chicago" stunner said.

Zeta-Jones, 33, and hubby Michael Douglas, 58, are suing the British magazine
Hello! for publishing the unauthorized photos of their November 2000 wedding in
New York.

The power couple is demanding $815,000 for loss of income, stress and damage to
their careers caused by the poor quality of the shots taken by the perfidious
paparazzo.

But defense lawyers argued the stars were concerned more about control than
privacy, noting they had signed a $1.6 million deal to provide exclusive
pictures of their nuptials to OK! magazine.

Three days before OK! hit the newsstands, Hello! magazine hit the streets with
its own "exclusive" shots of the lavish affair.

Zeta-Jones fumed that she was "devastated" by the pirated pictures, which she
said made The Plaza hotel look like a "bad disco."

"The quality was what every bride would hate to have out there. It was cheap
and tacky and everything I didn't want," she said.

"I felt like a peeping Tom was present," testified Douglas, who appeared
nervous compared to his unflappable wife.

"I was not prepared for the attention when an actor and actress come together.
The attention is multiplied tenfold," Douglas said.

Zeta-Jones, who is eight months pregnant, turned heads when she strode into
court in a black pantsuit and matching stiletto heels, her long, black hair
swept back to show off diamond earrings. She seemed particularly peeved that
the unauthorized photos made her look large.

Wed three months after giving birth to the couple's son Dylan, the Welsh-born
actress said she was distressed by "offensive" shots showing Douglas feeding
her wedding cake, saying it made it look as though all she did was eat.

"It was extremely important for my career that I regain my figure after giving
birth to Dylan," she said in a deposition distributed in court yesterday. "It
is all too easy for the film industry to conclude that an actress is past her
best."

That's why she just received her first Oscar nomination. *-)

Vanity, thy name is Catherine. I can't believe she has the nerve to say
something like this! What an icy, me-me-me bitch. I hope the judge throws the
case out. Get a life, woman!

Basically she admitted that she has nothing to bank on but her looks. She's
saying that her career could derail if she doesn't look right. Obviously she
thinks so little of herself that she is suggesting she doesn't have the talent
to keep her career going.

And to pacify his nicotine cravings I'm sure.

Who is advising Jones on her testimony and
courtroom appearance, pray tell?

So? This just proved Hello!'s case about
control vs access. Since Jones agreed to
allow her nuptials become a public event, she
can't criticize the photos she can't control.

Jesus H! If Catherine wanted a perfect
wedding, without intrusions, then why invite
magazine photographers at all? She and Mike
are going to lose their asses on this one.

Especially when you present a big public
wedding, you doofus! How many months did
these guys spend leaking details to the press?
How much publicity did they get/want out of
it? Seems like Mike and Cat should take some
responsibility for a media circus of their own
creation.

OMG! Can some PR person give this woman some
advise, please? I'd say those Sprint
commercials are a far more damning gesture
than any bad wedding photos.

In court? Poor Catherine Zsa Zsa Jones. She 's afflicted with the
more money than taste syndrome. Maybe she really is as young as she
says - she made a lot of stupid comments. I can't imagine Douglas,
for all his faults, sounding quite so crass.

Carny people - carny people - they are all overpaid carny people.

I cannot believe these assholes. First of all, most people do not even
care about their wedding photos to begin with (I know I don't), and she
claims that the photos made the wedding look "tacky." Well maybe that's
because it *was* tacky. I hope they do not get one dime from this suit,
in fact I hope the photographer countersues them for defamation of
character.

Right! I never even saw the dumb fucking pics until they were flashed onscreen
with *this* story! It just makes Jones and Douglas sound like they made their
whole wedding revolve around the pics that they allowed to be published, and
the illegal pics ruined it all for them. Wow, how fucking SAD!

Man, is Jones shallow or what? One of her biggest complaints was that it
made it look like she was eating a lot? Good lord.

look so staged. Jones must be quite the control freak.
