For an article I'm writing about the Internet for
economists, it would be nice to know the number
of gophers (in part, to demonstrate its popularity).
In looking through boombox.micro.umn.edu, I
came across the file othergophers.tar.Z. After
uncompressing and untaring it, the file all/.cache
seems to list all gopher sites. Is this correct?

Thanks for any pointers/suggestions.

This is relatively correct. There are over 1,600 gopher sites world-wide.
