Well, having just purchased Half-life for the sole purpose of playing TFC
(don't like playing this type of game by myself ;) I can say, well, I'm
not impressed.

I guess I expected more - I know it's free and all, but what's the real
point of playing the same maps using the half-life engine? I guess I was
expecting some areas revamped - the conversion was just that, no more no
less. Maybe they could have balanced things out a little more, speeded
things up instead of slowing things down, but the project strikes me as
kind of pointless.

Are there any people out there who are playing HL and don't have a copy of
Quake?

I guess when customized maps start coming out, maybe I'll reconsider. But
for the time being, Quake 1 TF still rules.

Anyone with any other points please post - I still haven't played TFC
enough to get at all of it's finer points or problems - but my main
problem is all it can do is water down the TF talent pool into HLer's and
Quakers - and that I don't like...

There are some improvements using the HL Engine VS the Quake Engine.

Sound is better (3d)....Graphics are better....Game is overall better.

But you should only switch to TFC if you are running something more than
Analog Dial-Up.

(Fast analog isnt bad...But not in huge games.)

TFC Net code still needs to be tweaked.

Tried TFC, and I think its really buggy..!! My Riva TNT crashed a couple of
times when changing GL resolution. Starting a Lan game is very slow on a
P2-300+128Ram. Tried running the Lan game (6-players)and some of the players
get randomly kicked out..!! Don't know why...?? A bit of disappointment
actually,..I think Value was under pressure to release it though. On another
note, I think it will never pick up if Value does not release the server
version for other OS, ie Sun Solaris or Alphas, most importantly Linux. Heard
the Linux server version will be out soon, lets hope it will running smoothly.

I took it that the whole point of doing a Halflife version of TFO(riginal)
was to make use of the better graphics ONLY and not to muck about with the
gameplay/class structure , I to took part in a 7 player LAN event with TFC
being the main reason and we all had MAJOR problems with .dll faults and the
like - VERY UPSET - This coupled with the fact that the patch is
fundamentally different from TFO -2.9 in that the classes have been
tweeked - i guess that making it close to TFO-2.9 was hard and that things
got muddled but all in all a big let down ..
Lets hope TF2 will be better - If it ever gets released
:]
