Ford CEO Jim Farley admits electric F-150 Lightning will 'have
to improve' after he waited 40 MINUTES to get the battery up
to 40% in $50,000 truck

Auto chief admits 'reality check' in his company's pioneering
electric vehicle

. . .

Clue - a gallon of gasoline has a LOT of energy.

Look, it's physics ... it takes a HUGE amount of
electricity to re-charge a vehicle battery. That's
a lot of amps and a lot of volts = a LOT of watts.

Most houses in the USA are rigged for 200-amp (at
240v) service. 200*240=48 Kilowatts

The "average" EV battery is about 70 Kilowatt-Hours,
meaning it will deliver 70KW for an hour, 35KW over
two hours and so forth.

Just roughly, it means that to charge a 70kwh EV
battery requires all the power your home system
can possibly supply, for about TWO HOURS.

To charge an EV bat "on the road" ... first off it is
only safe to increase the voltage just SO much or
rain/fog and such might mean arcing, or electrocution.
Maybe 480v is the safe max. That's 100 amps times
480v = 48KW ... for TWO HOURS ... to charge the thing,
mis-assuming 100% efficiency.

The reason for the extra voltage is mostly to make
the CHARGING CABLE manageable. The more amps, the
bigger the wire has to be. LOOK at the size of the
wires coming into your prime breaker-box, they're
HUGE, STIFF ... #2/0 AWG copper wire. At 480v
you can go to to a slightly smaller wire size.

This is The Science. You CANNOT wish it away or
talk your way around it. Not even the most Woke
reasoning changes a thing. It's how the universe
works.

You can 're-charge' a gasoline/diesel vehicle in
about 5-minutes ... just enough time to go into
the gas-o-mart and buy some snacks for the road.

E-vehicles DO have a place. Not everybody needs a
damned e-Pickup or e-Lotus. Some lower-performance
e-Pod car ... it'd look kinda like a SmartCar ...
really would serve much of the urban/trans-urban
population for ALMOST every need.

Methanol, ethanol, even isopropanol - they are
only a little bit lower-carbon but are lower-
pollutant, which is at least a small plus.
I'm going to suggest finding OTHER ways to cut
CO2 because vehicles are NOT a good pressure
point here. Actually, if a more direct means can
be devised, isopropanol is probably the 'magic'
fuel for vehicles - clean, but absorbs a lot
less moisture than methanol or ethanol.

Of course SOME don't care, just want to make
travel almost impossible. That way nobody can
confirm or deny Big Brothers "news" reports ...
can't break free from the local kommisar .....
