I'm sure some of you will have picked up on the news that later this
year Gibraltar will be playing England, Scotland and Wales in
football's Four Nations tournament for the first time in history.
Although the tournament is at semi-professional level (involving the
national "C" squads from England, Scotland and Wales), this is amazing
news for Gibraltarian football.

The tournament is being hosted by Wales and Gibraltar's matches will
be:

20th May v England (at Colwyn Bay)
22nd May v Wales (at Rhyl)
24th May v Scotland (at Oswestry)

If anyone out there is based in the UK or can let Gibraltarians based
in the UK and/or UK relatives know about the fixtures, that would be
great! Our lads could do with as much support as we can muster!

For any further information on the tournament, the GFA General
Secretary can be contacted at secr...@gfa.gi

Why pick Gib as a start / landing pint for this swim when the narrowest
point is at Tarifa? Don't misunderstand me - the publicity is welcome.
Having just said that, I can see why - it would be like swimming the English
Channel without actually landing in England. Therefore swimming the Strait
of Gibraltar MUST have Gib at one end of the feat I suppose.

Dunno, has anyone ever done it ? Although many have taken the
other route, setting out from Gib sounds really nasty and the
guy is a celeb rather than a professional swimmer. Its bad
enough in a boat !

The fished out someone who tried it the other way yesterday.
He was not available for comment.

True. Only ever heard of folk going Morocco - Gib, never the other way.
Perhaps has to do with the currents, which favour a S-N pasage rather than
the reverse. The distance is not too great (for those properly trained) and
the water warmer than other places (Eng Channel). The currents are something
else though.

I don't think it has anything to do with the currents, but more to do
with immigration.
