I read in Gibfocus today (21st April - NOT 1st April!) that Monarch is to
restart its Gib schedule as from September this year. They withdrew from the
route in a fit of pique in June 2006, when they started flights to Jerez in
exactly the same slots that they had previously used for Gib. The restart is
not an exact replacement for the previous service which flew on four days
each week. The new schedule is to operate threedays each week - Mon, Weds
and Fri.

The flight times are very different too, with departures from Manchester to
Gib at 06:55 (Mon) and 07:15 (Wed and Fri) with appropriately earlier return
times to the UK than before.

The Government is very pleased to welcome the return of air services
between Manchester and Gibraltar, in September 2008.

The re-introduction of these services is a positive response to the
Government’s recent announcement of a new financial model at
Gibraltar Airport.

“I am pleased to see that the Government’s recently announced new
business model for the airport is starting to produce positive
results, so soon after its announcement”, said the Hon Joe Holliday,
Minister for Transport. “The re-introduction by Monarch Scheduled of
direct flights between Gibraltar and Manchester re-open both
business and tourism links with an important catchment area outside
the London region in UK.”
