Pons has also been calling for Gib to revisist the need for a low-duty
economy. I have another piece of advice for Mr Pons - keep your nose out of
things that are not your business! How come large economies the world over
think competition is only fair when it involves matters which they can do
too? Reverse the matter, and tell Spain that it's not propoer for them to be
involved in manufacturing and farming. Heck, let Spain do what it can do
well, and let Gib do what it can do well too. Like that ALL can prosper.
Additionally he went on to say that Spain is not standing by waiting for the
right moment ot pounce on Gib. That would be far more believeable (than the
currently not at all believeable) if Spain had not just last week reminded
the world that it would never renounce its claim on Gib's sovereignty. There
are far more dissimilarities between the Gib sovereignty issue and the N
Ireland issue, but Sp should be reminded that real progress in Ireland began
ONLY when Eire wiped from its constitution the desire to gain sovereignty
over the N Ireland province.

Why are 99.9999% of posts in this NG about 'those bloody Spanish' and not
about the good things (or otherwise) that Gibraltar stands for?
OK here goes. Gib stands for free enterprise, fitting into niches rapidly
with minimum response times where others can't compete. Gib expoits it's
lack of socio-economic inertia to its maximum economic advantage. When it
comes to trade and commerce, it would be surprising if it did not try to
exploit the quirks that exist (because of differing fiscal policies) between
it and its ONLY land-linked neighbour - and Sp tells Gib to do otherwise
where it is not their place and they don't have the authority to do so!
I appreciate that, for a certain radius around Gib into Spain, a petrol
station in Spain might have difficulties because of lower prices in Gib.
Similarly, I imagine retail outlets in SP near Gib sell relatively little in
the way of real Scotch whisky and other spirits, or top-end perfumes.
Were Gib to behave towards Spain as Spain behaves towards Gib in this
regard, Gib would complain about far cheaper food prices in Spain,
detrimental to Gib supermakets and greengrocers and shoe shops, for example.
However Gib doesn't, as it appreciates that each competes best at different
things - these are both supposed to be free market economies, free meaning
free from intereference from their own legislatures let alone anyone else's!
Heaven knows that if it were legitimate to make such complaints it would be
Gib that has the greater grounds as the balance of payments is such that Gib
spends more money in Sp than Sp does in Gib!
It affects and is about Gib, so it appears in alt.gibraltar - and if Sr Pons
hadn't marched in where he ought not be at all, there would have been no
need for anyone to comment on it.
Finally, I've been over my original post with a fine tooth comb and have not
found the phrase quoted by "Watt a Jimmy" in HIS post. Would you then, Mr
Watt-a-Jimmy, be so kind to confirm that I made no comments about the
sangunity of the Sp at all? In fact I NEVER placed ANY adjective next to
"Spain" or "the Spanish", so any inference as to the nature of Sp and the
Spanish is, in the context of this thread so far, Mr Watt-a-Jimmy's alone.

anti-Spanish rant snipped
This is my whole point you cannot mention Gibraltar without mentioning
Spain, GET OVER IT, move on, deal with it.
You mentioned Spain or the Spanish 14 times in a reply to a post that said
why do you always go on about the bloody Spainsh!!!
Try it, your next 5 posts, don't mention the Spanish once, just Gibraltar, I
believe this is a Gibraltar NG. Come you can do it!
Another question might be why so you post using someone
elses name when yours is antony willis and your email
address is antony...@talk21.com
Nasty little troll.
