Do you need a passport to visit Gibraltar when flying directly from the UK?
I would presume that residents of Gibraltar can use their identity card if
needed - but is Gibraltar treated as an international flight, or a
quasi-domestic one as Channel Island flights are? (no Immigration control,
but customs control), or is it even as UK-Ireland flights are, where photo
ID is all that's needed?
I can't seem to find the answer online - I'm intending on taking up the
offer of relatively cheap flights and visiting for couple of days, I have no
interest in going into Spain, so I'd rather not have to pay for a passport
if I don't need to.

Michael

Yes. Gibraltarians holding a Gib ID card (not compulsory) can use this
instead of / as well as a passport when traveling throughout the EU

There is only ONE airport in Gib, so all flights to and from Gib are
internatinal flights.

Photo ID is all that is needed in the form of a valid travel document such
as an EU ID card or passport. Immigration and Customs apply.

Unless you have another valid travel document you will need a passport - or
risk being stuck at the airport and being sent back on the next available
flight.
Ken
You need a passport or an EU national identity card. The airline will
not allow you to board without one.

The Bassasdone motorised division has already invaded and occupied it.
Sorry? Would you care to expand, PLEASE?

I was told this was not possible because of some sensitive radar
installation on it, wrapped in some golf-ball contraption. My retort was
that Gibraltarians have no aspiration to world power, so we would not be
bothered if the radar was dismantled. Then, as it would no longer be there,
thee would be no reason not to hand the land over.
The blinding logic of my argument (or more likely, the stupidity of it in
the eyes of those who seek covert knowledge) left them speechless.

Bassadone Motors supply the UN with Toyota vehicles and keep
large numbers in stock, they used to be on the area known as
'the sands' which is being redeveloped for housing, they are
now at windmill hill. Lots of them. I have pictures.

you were told a fairy tale.
1. there was a satellite ground station inside the 'golf ball'
2. its decommissioned.
Regrettably, I'm not surprised. Though I must say, I had no idea. How many
UN visitors does Gib get per annum? How many vehicles does Gib need to keep
at the ready for the UN? It would be most interesting seeing those pics.
M
The mind boggles. Even the subs, one would think, is a thing of the past. At
any rate, should the Windmill Hill Flats be handed over to the "Gib" gov,
given "La Pudre", the "holders of the KEY" would probably build more luxury
dwellings for the rich and famous, UN officials, and stuff the Gibraltarians
and all resident citizens. If they don't like it, they can always move to
Spain.
M
Got it, tks. Do you know what "La Pudre" means? It means "The Putrefaction".
M
They're not for UN missions to Gib. They're for re-export, mostly to
Zimbabwe (or at least they were not so long since before Mugabwe went
crazy). Under soome phenomenally crazy political interpretation, seat belts
and trimmings are fitted in Gib and hey presto! They are "manufactured" in
the EU and have some benefit attached thereby.
K
That's the one. By their own logic then, there is no reason for a handover
to GoG. The radar was cited as the reason it could be handed over, and it
transipres there is no radar, not that we wanted it in the first place.
K
As there is a generating station going there, I think not.
Yes benefits. Benefits for whom?
M
The GoG. Now there's an interesting concept. GoG sounds more like a
privately owned corporation.
What else is happening in Gib in the next 10 yrs, any knowledge?
M
I haven't the faintest. I imagine there's something in it for people at both
ends of the deal, or the deal wouldn't get done.
K
> What else is happening in Gib in the next 10 yrs, any knowledge?
Several partial eclipses of the sun for starters;
Date: Start Time(UT): Type: Character:
Magnitude:
Oct 03 2005 08:57 Partial Central
0.8474
Mar 29 2006 10:02 Partial Central
0.3828
Jan 04 2011 07:44 Partial Non-central
0.4943
Nov 03 2013 12:33 Partial Central
0.1546
Mar 20 2015 08:59 Partial Central
0.6692
For the next total eclipse visible from Gib you'll need to wait until Aug
2nd 2027 at 08:46. There are several more partials between 2005 and 2015,
but you asked for the next 10 years . . . .
Ken
People at both ends of the deal,no doubt. The vassals are doing well.

Whens the next date the sun passes with the same elevation

The eclipse by Astra2 is an interesting event even if only lasts

no but the broadband RF from the sun plays havoc with sensitive
microwave detectors listening out for eastenders and Big Brother.
