Tripartite talks

Well, the first of the formal talks has occurred at Malaga, and all appears
well - at least in as much as nothig bad appears to have happened. So far
there is promise that some things will be looked at, but nothing has been
looked at yet. Items earmarked for future discussion are matters concerning
the airport (where Gib must tread carefully, for we could end up worse off
than we are now) and telecoms (where we can only end up better off than
now).

I would be more encouraged by the whole thing if the next (or real-soon now)
talks were held in Gib. It would be a massive endorsement if the Sp
authorities came to Gib, officially recognising that Gib is NOT part of
Spain. It wold be wholly approporiate that they should do so, if their
new-found statement of mutual respect is to be believed. After all, the
process was launched in the UK and involves Gib, UK and Spain. The first
real meeting has happened in Spain. The next meeting might happen in Gib or
the UK. Assuming it happens in the UK next, the process should visit Gib
BEFORE it reconvenes in either Sp or the UK. It should be quite rigidly set
up in a rotating venue, in fairness to all parties concerned.

If people took the advice of those in this NG regarding Gib (i.e. all
Spanish are Spicks (sic) not worth speaking to), then these talks would
never have taken place!

OK Ken, you have never called the Spanish Spicks, that of course was Jim
Watt, however when we had the change of Spanish Government and 'the
shoemaker' as you called him, started to make friendly overtures to
Gibraltar, you voiced an opinion that it wasn't even worth talking to the
Spanish. Now we are having these tri-partite talks, something that many
Gibraltarians have been asking for, you seem to be not quite so
anti-Spanish.
