PRESS RELEASE FROM THE CONSERVATIVE PARTY BRANCH
IN GIBRALTAR

Michael Howard has launched the Conservative pitch for power with a
promise to "battle for Britain" and make the country a better place
in which to live. With three weeks to go to the election, the Party
Leader unveiled a manifesto programme.

Locally, the Gibraltar Conservatives have announced the start of
their programme of bringing interesting Conservative speakers to
Gibraltar with the controversial politician, author, and
broadcaster, Edwina Currie.

Edwina Currie started her political career as a Birmingham City
Councillor and served as MP for South Derbyshire from 1983 to 1997.
She was a government Minister at the Department of Health and Social
Security (later the Department of Health) under Margaret Thatcher.

She resigned after warning about food safety in eggs. Since then she
has campaigned for legislation to give equal rights to gay men,
support for military personnel who returned from the first Gulf War
in Iraq in 1991 suffering from Gulf War Syndrome, and set up a
multi-agency team with the Royal British Legion which successfully
pressed Ministers to accept responsibility and compensate the
victims and their families.

She lost her seat in the 1997 General Election, after 22 years of
public service.

She will be speaking, and answering questions, at a dinner in the
evening of the 20th May. Party members and others interested should
contact the local conservative association on 74518, to reserve a
place, or consult the association website www.conservatives.gi for
more information.

The Chronicle ran it with the headline

EDWINA CURRIE EGGS ON GIBRALTAR CONSERVATIVES

However I am more amused by the previous story of the guy who
was printing 20 pound notes on his ink jet, he was fined 250
quid - hope the ink was dry on the notes used to pay the fine.

I'm with you Jim... I too thought Dominique (presumably) excelled
himself, with that headline!

So far as young Mr Mor is concerned... the 'counterfeiter'... there was
an additional story in today's Chronicle, pointing out that in fact he
had only printed 'one' £20 note! Fined £250 and had his computer
equipment confiscated!

His counterfeit note must have got quite 'close to the mark'! (No pun
intended!)... Wouldn't have minded seeing a copy of it! ha ha! I
mean, I wouldn't have minded seeing the original counterfeit note!!

Saludos!

No such creature. NO politicians of ANY party are interesting.

Some years after FOWLing up the egg market, she returned to the
subject of breakfast food, when she started playing 'hide the sausage'
with John-Boy Major,

Old Nick.

On the contary, I found Michael Howard a very nice man, he
says he has been going round the UK asking people what they
want from Government - he certainly did that here, which makes
a change from being told what we need by Peter Hain who
is full of shit,

Watching Howard deal with a press conference on BBC
Parliament the other day was a lesson on how to control a
situation politely, firmly and all on his own

Blair needed a lot of support and what looked like the set from
'The weakest link'

I hope you are not suggesting 'Frankie' is a control freak.

Nick.
