The ongoing saga of the MV 'New Flame' which went aground on
the reff south of Europa point in August continues to draw
comments from the loonie brigade in Spain.

Despite clear statements that the ship was carrying scrap
metal, reports that it carried radioactive waste continue.

Jusging from the claims of massive oil slicks, there was
it holds an inexhaustable supply to rival Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile the GoG contracted Titan Marine, the worlds leading
salvage company to deal with the problem. This is the firm
which raised the Spabunker IV, the Spanish bunkering vessel
which sank in the bay at the time Greenpeace made false
allegations about the dangers of Gibraltar bunkering and
were arrested for trying to board a ship using illegal craft.

Hi,

What is funny is that now there is a problem they are suddenly
Gibraltar waters. When there is no problem they are spanish waters.
When are the spanish going to get a legal opinion on the waters issue
instead of their self serving layman's opinion.

Also when is the British government going to pull its Chamberlain
finger out and claim the full 12 miles like spain has done with Ceuta.
It would solve The HMS Sussex problem. (A British ship in British
waters, none of spain's f**king business).

The answer to the above 2 questions is "never".

AFA the Sp argument about the waters is concerned, it's all very convenient
as it is, as you say, theirs when it's OK and someone else's when it's not.
I sincerely hope there is some scribe or other out there recording these
changes of mood meticulously so that the Sp inconsistencies can be brought
to the attention of whatever court eventually might preside over the issue.

Meanwhile, the UK will do nothing either simply because it's not off the
coast of Dover and AFA they're concerned, it doesn't affect them. That it
affects US is of no consequence - it's not THEM.

Meanwhile I note that Gibfocus is currently hosting some correspondence
regarding UDI. I'd rather not get into a slanging match there. I must admit
UDI might be the only means by which this issue of waters and others will
ever get resolved, as both belligerants (Sp and UK) are too comfortable with
their respective positions to get anything to happen down here. It is also
the case that were we to declare UDI, we'd be the nation whose independece
lasted the shortest time ever.

In such a case, the UK would immediately wash her hands of us. Sp would a
millisecond later mount an invasion. Loyal though the GR chaps might be and
however well equipped, even if they were worth 100 Sp "Quintos" each, they
would be overwhelmed by sheer force of number. Devoid of NATO membership,
NATO would do nothing to help us. NATO is more likely to come to Spain's
aid, as she IS a NATO member. Having divested ourselves of the UK's
protection, the UK would do nothing, lest their involvement be seen as
harking to the colonial past which we have so obviously rejected and Spain
is after all a friend and ally in NATO and the EU. The UN would do nothing
at all. After all, it has had decades to do something and done nothing, why
the rush now? That aside, the UN NEVER moves until AT LEAST 100,000 people
have been slaughtered, a figure which ensures we shall never attract their
attention whatever our fate may be. A correspondent at Gibfocus is sure the
Amercians would come to our assistance. Why would they- we have no oil! No,
unfortunately and how ever uncomfortably it may sit, our predicament has
only ONE resolution - a negotiated settlement. Even if it takes many
lifetimes or longer still.
