After all the fuss, Gibraltar has gone very quiet, as people gather
with their families to celebrate Christmas in their homes.
The Police report that there were no incidents, so far and
traditionally any brawls occur in the later afternoon.
We look forward to a propsperous 2005 in which the Government
of Spain has at last accepted the Gibraltarians exist and that their
wishes have a value.
To the detractors who said we 'were going to be Spanish whether
we liked it or not' - sorry guys you got it wrong.
To our neigbours, best wishes and remember although you are always
welcome, our house is not your house
The New year will bring new challenges and opportunities and
alt.gibraltar is another year older.

Many thanks Jim. INdeed it has been a good year for Gib all round.
Be that as it may, it is always incumbent on us all to improve matters
further if at all possible. Spain has grown up a bit in democratic terms. As
Rafael Estrella (PSOE) commented, that as far as Spain is concerned Gib does
not have a veto, it is inconceivable that anything be done regards
sovereignty over Gib that does not have the blessing of the Gibraltarians.
Well, that smells of a veto to me. If it looks like a duck, walks like a
duck and quacks like a duck, it IS a duck.
The next thing we must ask for is that Spain now continues on her road
towards maturity. Children are known to ask incessantly on a long car
journey "Are we there yet?". Children are also known to ask the same
question repeatedly, such as "Can I have a rabbit? Can I have a rabbit? Can
I have a rabbit?" as if the twentythird time of asking was going to produce
an answer different to that of the previous 22. Similarly Spain believes
that if she asks often enough, one day the answer will be that we want sp
sovereignty. However those of us enough in the know know that the more she
asks, the more likely she is to be met with a resounding "NO!"
When Spain grows up a bit more, she might come to appreciate that it is
childish, rude and ultimately counterproductive to keep on acting in this
child-like manner. When Sp TRULY stops wanting our land UNLESS we freely ask
them to have it, she will be worthy of it. Problem is, from their current
perspective, by then she will also truly have stopped caring.
Merry christmas, happy new year 2005, and may the worst of the future be as
the best of our past.
