I've identified the vessels that carried my four grandparents to New York,
obtained copies of the ships' passenger lists, and now have photographs of
the ships. I've also obtained copies of their naturalization papers.

Can anyone tell me whether additional records are available from their
processing at Ellis Island and, if so, how to obtain copies?

I've been informed that extant Ellis Island processing records were
filed and microfilmed along with the passenger manifests, so ought
to appear on the microfilm following the actual manifest; also that
EI records prior to 1896 perished in a fire that year. I have not
had occasion to check passenger manifests for years after that, so
cannot personally confirm this info.

A question about the previous article. How were you able
to get photos of the ships your ancestors emigrated on?

Thanks in advance

Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints
are currently working on extracting (onto disk) passenger lists
for years from 1892 to 1924. This may be no help if they're not
what the original poster needs and won't help yet anyway :^{
but one of these days...

According to a booklet called "Ellis Island & the Statue of Liberty:
Historical Highlights-The Immigrant Journey", pub. by American Park
Network, which I picked up about a year ago at a rest-stop on RT 80 in
New Jersey (in case anyone wants to look at NJ rest stops for more :-)
), Ellis Island opened for immigration Jan 1, 1892 and burned June 14,
1897. It was not re-opened until Dec. 17, 1900. So immigrants were
processed during those years at the "old Barge Office". So, I'd assume
(dangerous I know) that the same sort of records would have been
produced in those interim years and continued once it re-opened. (I
haven't seen them personally).
