Yes, it certainly could be a nickname for Virginia. I have read a
trilogy of historical romances based on 19th Century Maryland and
Virginia by Celeste DeBlasis. The books are: Wild Swan, Swan's
Chance, and A Season of Swans. (There may be additional books in the
series -- I'm not sure.) One of the characters in the books is
Virginia Carrington, whose nickname is "Gincie". Incidentally, if you
enjoy historical romances or are interested in 19th century
Maryland/Virginia history, you would love these books.

There is no record of her having the name Virginia

and there is a question as to whether Jincy and "Jane" are the same
