I know that this issue has been raised before but.....
I need a genealogy software app. I have Family Tree Maker V.2 and I have
tried Brothers Keeper v 4. BK keeps locking up and crashing my system.
Does anyone have any suggestions for freeware/shareware genealogy software?

Thanks in advance

Look at Ziff-Davis for a download library, the have several programs

The address below: contain large downloads, but all are rated 5 stars.
(By the way, click on the link and it should start the download
process.)
I haven't used them yet, but if it is rated 5 Stars, it must be OK.

(for windows 95, Cumberland family tree V2.24 5 star)
ftp://ftp.zdnet.com/pub/private/sWlIB/home_hobby/genealogy/cftw32.zip

(For Windows 3.1, or 3.11, Cumberland Family Tree V2.24, 5 star)
ftp://ftp.zdnet.com/pub/private/sWlIB/home_hobby/genealogy/cftw.zip

(r Windows 3.1, 3.11, Family Matters V3.31a, 5 star)
ftp://ftp.zdnet.com/pub/private/sWlIB/home_hobby/genealogy/fmlymttr.zip

Good Luck,
Bob Nolan

Looking for Nolan, Carr, Robinson, Hendricks, Bates, Bellizia all in the
New England area, Bates in Nova Scotia as well.

Razzle.

I represent JamoDAt-USA agent for the Danish software company JamoDat.
Their software package "WinFamily" is one of the most versatile and user
friendly programs out there. I am not familiar with any other software
that offer such a variety of ways to display your data. Some features
are unique to WinFamily as far as I am aware at this time. I.e.
printing of "Combination Trees" that show BOTH a person's ancestors AND
decendants on the same tree. Another feature that I only know of in DOS
programs is the ability to print a tree that shows the comon ancestors
of two selected persons and the relevant persons connecting them.
WinFamily also supports TWAIN scanners for direct scanning of reference
material (pictures) into the database. It can create a web-site from
your database and much, much more. But it is really simple to use and
building family relationships from a list of persons is as simple as
"click a name, drag it, and drop it at the proper place" Visit their
web-site at: <http://www.jamodat.dk> and download a shareware version
that is fully functional except for printing hard-copy.

Sincerely,

Jon Weywadt

Try Ancestral Quest at www.ancquest.com. They have a freeware demo version
that you can try before you buy. The demo does limit the number of
individuals in your database, and it won't print to paper, but it will print
to the screen, so you can see what the reports will look like.

I've been using AQ for about 2 years, and prefer over all of the other
products I have tried, to include FTM and Brothers Keeper.

I have tried several programs, including FTM, WinFamily, BK, etc..... I was not
satisfied with any of them. Last weekend at a local computer show, i stumbled
accross a box labeled NO FRILLS Software. It sure caught my eye, especially for
the marked down price of 15$ (US). It turned out to be Ancestral Quest. I am so
VERY pleased with this program. I would recommend it to anyone. They have a
website or here is the snail mail address to order it.
