This is nearly complete with a total of almost 1000 individuals, and
goes back to 1607 on one leg of the tree. I'm thinking this could be
useful to others.
I would like to make this available on the web, but I note there are
many sites that solicit uploads. Does anyone have an idea of which
site may be the most comprehensive or what criteria I should use to
choose a site?
Also, I have been reading about not publishing data on individuals who
are still living. Is this a problem I should address in some way?
Last, most of my sources are nothing more than a scanned piece of
paper that someone (I may not even know who) handwrote. Are these
acceptable?
Thank you for any advise and experience you may be able to impart.
Vic
which version?

welcome Vic
as a newbie you should do your own thing and not be frightened of
making mistakes which you will correct later
FTM 16 and older have a web publication function which allows up to 2000
individuals
my family tree appears in two versionz
http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/w/a/t/Hugh-B-Watkins/index.html
made by filling in templates in FTM - easy peasy
and automatically duplicated as
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=:3011593
which is indexed in worldconnect
and ancestry world tree and other commercial databases
my most up to date version is
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=hughw36
which is customised with a css
Entries: 2865 Updated: 2009-04-08
all of that you may learn about later
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ remains the most important freebie for
uploading data -search it and play with it
ignore all the negative remarks which will follow - many will be by
bozo's jealous of the financial success of the commercial sites
the community is divided into those of us who happily share everyting
and those grumpy old men who don't
if a commercial site makes money out of "my" data
good luck to them - it will pay for the "freebies" they provide and
which I enjoy
http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/home/ is worth a look
I have found lost cousins in Australia - I am in UK and Denmark - and
is full of newbies like you
do follow all the above links to educate yourself about possibilities
and search the sites too
do not pay for anything with out careful thought - some contracts are
binding for a year and expensive over kill
some unique sources in the home need to be published
house fires deatroy much every year - photographs too
sharing protects the family as a back up
