Apparently under Vista there are some problems. But for those of us
lucky enough to have Windows XP, all these games are now compatible :D

It's alien huntin' time!

Actually, it says Vista supported! Suppose it was just my friend
having trouble.

I bought them all (again, for most of the titles) last night, on Steam
- a bargain at 7 pounds 50 pence !

Had a quick go of Enemy Unknown - god, it's tough at the start ! I'd
forgotten the feeling of losing 2-3 guys per mission...

I did as well! It was 5$ per game or 15$ for all five. And as I wanted
both UFO, TFTD and Apoc, I bought the complete pack. I can't believe
how much fun I'm having playing this game again! I also finally get to
check out Interceptor and Enforcer, though they won't be nearly as
much fun, I know...

From the moment I started building my base and stuff, I felt a certain
suspense knowing that UFOs with deadly wicked aliens would be popping
up at any moment. And at my first landing, I had a lump in my throat!
I can't believe how exciting this 15 year old game is!

I lost 3 guys on my first mission, a downed UFO in Scotland. Second
mission I lost none. It's taking a while to get a hang of it. TFTD and
Apoc also look awesome. You can play the games in windowed mode as
well, but I actually prefer blocky old fullscreen :)

The feeling I get landing and deploying is totally claustrophobic...
it's fascinating that such an old game can maintain suspension of
disbelief.

Not to mentioned the night missions, when you forgot to load flares
:)

An acceptable substitute is a rocket laucher with the incendiary
rockets - they light up a field nicely :)

Would look fantastic on modern PCs with real time shadown flickering
on the walls.

Yeah I just did that too... sent a squad out of the ranger first and
blanketed a semi-circle around the ranger with proxy grenades. Then I
sent all my people in one direction, toward the UFO lol

Indeed. But the rocket launcher isnt very cost-effective in terms of
lighting up. Autocannons with incendiary do a great job.

I drool at the mere thought of how it could look with a modern game
engine...

Autocannon works too. Playing with fire you even get alien barbecue by
accident. My favorite kill :) But watch out for the fires, your own
guys may get cooked too.

Yes. As I recall the game is somewhat limited on how many tiles can
actually be on fire. If it's maxed out, new fires won't start.

Been playing Apocalyse a little, too - I'd forgotten that gas grenades
put out fires.

I realise this makes me sound terribly old-fashioned and a bit
paranoid, but is there any way to simply get the patched software,
without having to install some "client" or whatever on my computer
that monitors me every time I want to play the game?

As far as I know, it's either Steam, then buy them, or get the
originals and fight with XP to get they playing acceptably, I'm
afraid.
