It's a very old game so I'm not sure if anyone can help but I
recently went back to play UFO - Enemy Unknown (as this was the name X-
Com was released as in England) on my ancient old P90 as I never
completed the game 1st time around. However I've come across either a
bug or maybe I'm missing something, I'm not sure. I've had my
scientists doing their research and have been told to capture one of
the alien leaders alive so that they can be interrogated to find where
the alien HQ is. The thing is, I sent in a team and captured a leader
from a base the aliens had set up on earth (which one of my aircraft
detected) but when I complete the mission, I get the message 'alien
dies as there is no alien containment facility.' But I do have an
alien containment facility in both of my largest bases! The team that
I sent out to capture the alien leader are from one of the bases that
has an alien containment facility and not from one of my smaller bases
that haven't, so I can't understand why I get this message.
Could you help me please and tell me if I'm missing something or
have I come across a bug? I would love to finish this game as I have
put hours and hours of time into it and it is in my opinion, one of
the all time classic computer games. I know it's looking well dated
now but the gameplay still stands the test of time.
I'd be grateful for any help.

IIRC, surprisingly, the alien containment facility can get full up!
Thankfully, you can transfer live aliens to another base's containment
facility, so you can make room that way. I'm pretty sure there's a way to
kill off spare aliens in the facility, but for the life of me, I can't
remember what it is :(
At worst, there's a few savegame editors around that you can use to do the
same job, if you don't mind cheating just a *little* bit... ;)

iirc, you can actualy sell aliens - unless my menory is playing tricks
and you can only sell corpses...

Only corpses. If you have the cash, the easiest way to fix a full
containment room is to just delete the facility and build a new one. IIRC,
of course.

Just reinstalled it again, seeing as you guys waved temptation my way... ;)
Can't delete the Containment facility if it's in use, unfortunately.

I must have misremembered. Too bad...

Just found out from posting on the strategy newsgroup that there's a
patch that fixes this problem and it was a known problem that was in
the FAQ. This was from a guy who used to work for Microprose customer
support! I just hope that the patch doesn't make all my savegames null
and void like so many patches still do! Thankyou all for your help.

If need be, transfer live aliens from one base to another, emptying the
containment facility from base #1; now you can delete it.

I don't have any live aliens to transfer! That's why the "no alien
containment facility" message is so frustrating

Check the "Sell" bit...you might have gotten the facility full up with alien
corpses! ;)

I thought alien bodies are stored in the general storage squares.

If you take one of the save game folders, delete the contend and then
save a new game in that slot you can take the ASTORE.DAT from the new
save and replace the one in your corrupt game. this will empty out all
of your alien containment facilities.
