I am stuck in the mission "Bombed Factory" (Mission 4 Level 2) - I
can't find the entrance to the sewer - browsing through this group it
seems I have to smash something somewhere to get into the sewer... can
anyone please explain to me where to find the entrance?

Thanks ...

Watch for grates on the flooring. Very similar to the one you came
through at the start of the game, that you had to break through to get
to the street level. One sewer takes you into a sniper's nest where a
soldier is using a heavy floor mounted machine gun to fire out the
window. The other will take you out onto the street behind a parked
vehicle, as well as the entrance to the building that will open up the
rest of the level for you. Just watch out when you break the grates
and go down....there may be someone down there waiting for you.

Hope this helps.

I'm having the same problem. But, at least I now know why I can't find
it- I don't see a half-track on this level with a gun mounted on it.
So, although I've killed everybody, it's obvious I still haven't
progressed far enough into this level. But, I've checked everywhere
and I don't have a lot of places to go and I'm just running around in
circles... I don't see a metal grating to kick in nor do I see grates
on the flooring. So, maybe I'm asking the wrong question. How do I
find the half-track?

Thanks but I had already checked all of the online walkthroughs- that's
why I came to this group because I'm obviously missing something that
they're not saying about this level. I've already completed the 1st 3
objectives. There's no one else alive. I've gone inside every ruined
wall, every cubby, every window and nada- no metal grating, no ladders,
no half-tracks with guns, no ruined walls that lead to anything, etc.
The walkthrough doesn't give any architectural references so it's
difficult to pin down where they're talking about when they say, "once
the *immediate area* is secure, run through the ruined wall behind you
and make your way through the rubble" or "go forward and to the right
until you see a metal grate over an opening in the ground". I was
hoping that someone here might be a little more specific as to the
location of the ruined wall or could clue me in on how to complete the
final objective which is to gain access to the SWF complex and exit the
level.

I just played my save for that level (4,2) and the level starts with
spawning in the sewer; am I missing something here? There are three ways
into the sewer and two ways out, but the objective (Venom Gun Plans) aren't
in the sewer. Can you take a screenshot of where you are at?

It seems we have the same problem! I have been to the spoiler page
(http://www.planetwolfenstein.com/sp/walk/m4l2.shtml)… probably we
need to look for the ladder at the very start of part 2. … If you
find a way out of this "running in circles" I'd like to know how… ;-)
.. meanwhile I'll be looking for a ladder

It's simple the second time (smile)

Let's say the area in which you start is a square clock. You start in the
lower left corner about 7:30. There's the guy directly ahead with the
machine gun, the upper left corner. Call that 10:00.

If you go to the right as you come out of the starting hole, over to the
lower right corner about 4:30, then go up (north) to the upper right corner
at 1:00 you pass a small passage off to the right just at 3:00. I suggest
NOT going there as I've never managed not to die immediately when I try it.
Instead, proceed on past this little alley and jump down into the room in
the upper right. At about 1:00 there are a couple of health packs and a
partially broken grate in the floor. Break the grate and do down. You'll
find choices in the way to go from there.

Have fun. Hope this helps. This is one of my favorite levels!!

Okay, let's see if I can remember this...

When the level starts, go up the ladder and knock out the grating to
access the street above, You may have to take care of a
machine-gunner directly ahead of you. At any rate, from the grate you
emerged from, turn to the right. GO that way as far as you can,
bumping off foes as you go, then hang a left. Press straight ahead and
you'll come to the floor grate that takes you into a sewer. Descend
the ladder, then turn to the left (and whack into a flamethrower
dude). Get rid of him and follow that branch of the sewer around, and
you can get into that machine gunner's nest. Nothing there, really,
but some health. But if you turn and follow the sewer around to the
other end (knocking off a few other guys as you go), you'll come to
another ladder. Go up that ladder, bust out the grate, and you're
behind the halftrack.

To your left is the doorway into a 2 story building that is the
entrance to the SWF. Fight your way up past a bunch of paratroopers,
wait for the inept bomb squad to blow itself up, leap across the
gaping hole in the floor they create, and through the door. You can
work you way to a bombed out roof. You may have to pick off some
snipers, when done, but leap across to that other building to your
left, work your way around the roof and inside, and voila! The venom
book is sitting on a desk.

Go back down to the street and find that halftrack again. Well!
Someone thoughtfully lowered a fire escape. Go up it, fight a bit
more, and go through a door to get to the next level and the SWF.

That's how I remember it, someone feel free to correct any mistakes
I've made.

Jon, thanks. Your statement below is what started me questioning what
I was seeing. Benny, I hope you're reading this because this may be
your problem, too:

I hadn't been using the online walkthroughs as I played this game- it
was only when I got stuck on this level that I started looking around.
In the notebook it says the level is called: Mission 4: Deadly Designs
Part 2: The Bombed Factory. However, if you check the listed
objectives against the planetwolfenstein walkthrough, it's actually
Part 1: Kugelstadt. I'm still on *that* level trying to complete the
last objective and you may be, too. But, something has gone radically
wrong because the walkthrough says:

"Once you regroup with the tank, it will probably be under fire from
anti-tank artillery at the end of the street, Run around the tank and
deal with the troops manning the artillery. Once the tank is safe, it
will blast a hole in the wall and let you out."

I did that and as far as I'm concerned not only is the tank safe but
the entire level as well. But the tank never blasted the hole. I've
been running around this level for days.... no one else is alive but
the tank, for some reason, isn't doing anything. The game thinks I'm
on the next level but I'm not. If I did something to fail the mission
you'd think the game would have ended. So, something isn't quite
right.

Everett, Monoxide Child, if you're reading this... thanks for the
spoilers for the next level 'cause I'll be using them. :^)

Trust me. There ain't nobody left alive on that level anywhere but
just to be sure I went back and checked the alley on the right and I
had already killed the guy in the far building (I had to climb upstairs
and jump across the windows). No one was home.

I'm sure I hit a bug in the game because of the discrepancy I am seeing
between the listed objectives and the title+writeup of the level (the
objectives were of Kugelstadt but the title and writeup was "The Bombed
Factory").

So, I went back to my saved game at the start of the level, replayed
the whole level, this time staying with the tank at the end and it blew
a hole through the door (in the saved level I was fighting the soldiers
in the side alley while the tank was under attack. But, unlike most of
the other times playing this level, the tank was not destroyed so, I
proceeded around the level killing everyone and everything in sight
while the tank just sat there. It was a definite bug.)

One thing I did do was keep an eye on the notebook as I went through
the level and it was always consistent with Kugelstadt.

Oh, and when the panzer blew the door, there were a bunch of soldiers
still alive on that level in the alleys. So, it doesn't appear that
it's even necessary to kill everybody to proceed to the second part.
You just have to make sure that the panzer is protected.

I had a few goes at that. First you must kill all six members of the
team that cases the tank to stop first. The tank will not move forward
again until you have. Then the tank will take the first left turn run
along to the second and tune left. Keep out of the way until it has
destroyed the tower with the sniper.

Now you have to go through the ornate gate and rescue the scientist.
Then the tank will continue around the next right hand corner and stop
because of the antitank gun. Destroy the crew and the tank will move
forward again, the scientist will have been recovered and you can go up
to the gate at the end, turn to the right and move into the next
section.

The tank breaks through the barbed wire barrier but does not smash down
a wall in my game as I recall.

Oops! I just rechecked and it destroys the doors so that you can get at
the exit. If you are busy elsewhere you can miss that happening.

Before I realized there was a bug I was about to upload the screenshot
I took of that level where I was standing on top of the tank. It never
happened, i.e. the panzer didn't destroy the doors. The tanked stopped
about 15 feet from them and just sat there pointed in that direction.
The game got confused at that point- it was correct in that I didn't
complete the last objective but it had advanced the level
information/description to the Bombed Factory.
