Hello,

The "invention" of rocket launchers in 3D-games is definetly awesome.

I was just wondering what awesome game was the first game to introduce it...

It was either wolfenstein 3D or Doom... I think ?!?

I am not sure... (Later versions of wolfenstein had a rocket launcher)...

So which one was it... was it wolfenstein or was it doom ? ;)

Bye,
Skybuck =D

The bosses in Wolf3D have RLs but you don't. Not exactly a RL but there is
also HoverTank3D. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7juV9zo5Tk

I thought it was Rise of the Triad, but I am probably incorrect. That's
the first game I played with one.

Fortress of Mystery?
Cant see it being used there :)

EP3 MAP6, Mt Erebus required a rocket jump to get to the secret level.

Wolfenstein 3D had

knife
pistol
machine gun
chain gun

no rocket launcher (except by Boss enemies)

Doom I think. I am not aware of an earlier game with rocket launcher (but there might have been)

Wolfenstein had knife,pistol,machine gun,chain gun.
Only Wolfenstein bosses had a rocket launcher, not the player.

Yeah... I probably used the no clip technique as well LOL.

This guy tries the RL approach and then does the NO CLIP lol:

Then it goes back to the first level, he's like WTF ?!

I would have been "WTF" as well lol...

Then you might think... "maybe it's because of the cheat"

But then the hell breaks loose:

(That's one nasty big motherfucker he's fighting there :))
(Graphics ain't to great (low settings? port ?) but it gives a nice
impression ;) :))

Yes, but it's PRBOOM, right? And the other demo is ZDoom. Will it work
in vanilla Doom?

And, is this designed to use the rocket launcher? Did John Romero think
of it?

"The only way you are supposed to reach the secret switch was by (1) getting
the invincibility, (2) blasting a rocket into the wall so you would fly
backwards into the box. We found out early on that it was possible to flip
the switch from outside, so Sandy made the walls thicker. The advanced
techniques of strafe-running, et al, did not come about for almost a year
after DOOM's release so there was no way we could anticipate someone getting
into the secret area any other way. Much like the way we never anticipated
Quake's rocket-jumping."

Doomsday/JDoom, according to the comments.[1] (I thought there was far
too much ridiculous bling in that video for it to be PrBoom...)

Yes, I believe strafejumps work in the original game.

Apparently the rocket jump was indeed the intended route.[2][3]
