Hi there

I have started a Vt:M city page, and I would like to ask how I go about
getting people to visit it?

I have added it to http://www.top-gaming-sites.com/index.php is their any
other places that I can advertise the site ?

cheers

Don't know, but the idea of Sheffield by Night is an excellent one.

1. Submit to search engines. Three months later, mine is just starting to
show up in the Google index, but not for any useful search-words.

2. Use sites that rank similar sites (like you and I are both on
top-gaming-lists.com).

3. Post advertisements on the newsgroups about once a month. I get big 60-70
hit spikes when I do that.

4. Get into a few webrings.

5. None of that combined compares to RECIPROCAL LINKING. Start a links page
and maintain it. Ask other webpages to do the same, put you on their lists.
It drives more traffic than anything in the world of hobby sites.

Is this considered acceptable by the majority of the newsgroup? Myself,
I've posted a few adverts to my own site (www.kindred.org.uk) but only when
something really new has shown up there (OmniChar, Daemon's Dice Roller,
etc.). But, I must admit, I do tend to feel a bit guilty every time I delve
into self promotion. I mean, my site is updated (almost) every week at the
moment, but I thought it would just annoy people to hear me tell them it's
updated.

Mind you, I don't object to others posting their own adverts. In fact, I've
been known to happily enjoy being informed of updates. I notice even
nocturnis.net / ELN do this.

So... opinions please?

As long as the site in question is 'topic' related, I don't have a problem
with posts that advertise a specific site. Mostly I like seeing posts of
this nature, because I usually visit the site mentioned. If the site
appeals to me I bookmark it and visit it regularly for updates and changes.

As for the 'shameless plug in every sig'....well...I do that too. But since
my site is not WW material I never advertise changes. I figure that on a
group like this, folk may or may not check the link. That's cool in either
event and I just continue posting my link in my sig in hope that it will be
used on occasion.

That was pretty much my opinion too. I just didn't want to annoy anyone by
telling them about my site.

A good policy. As it happens, I'm one of the ones who has clicked on your
sig-link, even before you mentioned it. :)

At least nobody will never forget who is responsible for which site that
way. ;)
