Are there any German Vampire gamers out there reading this list? I noticed
that the company that licenses Vampire for Germany has three sourcebooks
out. I was hoping someone could give me an opinion of them, since I read
German and might order them. The three are: Frankfurt by Night, Vienna by
Night (detailing the Tremere's home turf - yippee), and Berlin by Night. I
was also curious if the Berlin by Night is different from the U.S. Berlin by
Night. They do have different covers. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I only read Berlin by Night, and I didn't like it very much.
It's basically about two princes, one in the eastern and the
other in the western part, and surprisingly they don't acknow-
ledge one another. The Tremere put a magical barrier along the
wall, so passing between the two parts is tricky. And that's
all I remember, the book left me via eBay.

Ralf

Hi there,

IMHO, at least the Berlin by night thingie is absolute crap; better dont
bother with buying it...what Ralf said is true, and that is something
that p***es me off, because eastern and western germany are united since
more than 10 years....so an update wouldnt be bad..
Frankfurt b.n. isnt any better, because when you compare the vampres in
this one with the vamps from Berlin by night, you have to ask yourself
if the blood in Frankfurt makes Vamps less powerful...;o)
Also, they mess up some of the generations of the
vamps....................

Thats only my private, humble opinion...if anyone doesnt agree, dont
dare to flame me.;o)

Hello!

If you ask me, you shouldn't take the German Sourcebooks as canon.

"Berlin bei Nacht" is (afaik) the same as the one White Wolf published (imho
it's crap).

"Die Stadt, das Blut und der Tod: Frankfurt bei Nacht" is nice, but... you
know, only for ideas. In this supplement, Frankfurt is being controlled by
Prince Friedrich Barbarossa. Frankfurt is a free city, which means, that
Justicars aren't really welcomed (rather they are being thrown out). If you
want to see a city with a Giovanni (!) Primogen, buy this sourcebook.

"Wiener Blut: Wien bei Nacht" is really nice. Afaik, some of the Vampire
LARPers of Feder&Schwert, which played Vienna by Night have immortalized
their chars in this sourcebook. It has a nice view inside House and Clan and
some nice ideas (coffee Etrius *g*), but I wouldn't take it as canon (esp.
the thing with the vampiric lover of Etrius, which they took from V:tES).

And last, but not least "Encyclopaedia Vampirica". It's a really good book,
imho, with one real deficit: it's not all canon. They have written it from
the view of different specialists of Vampiric history of different clans,
but many of the (real life) sources of this book are taken from the novels,
which aren't all canon. Nonetheless it's a very good book, and handy to have
around, if you have to take a quick look who that guy is, which your players
want to meet. ^_-

Well, it's your purse, not mine. ^_^
I'd recommend esp. the "Encyclopaedia Vampirica" (though it isn't cheap,
69,95 DM (or 35,76 EUR)), and "Wiener Blut".

Thanks for all the replies! I think I might get the Vienna one only ~ that
one definitely intrigues me. I might even try "Encyclopaedia Vampirica" ~
but it sounds to me like a Book of Nod sort of thing. I'm more interested
in setting, stats, that sort of thing, even if it's *not* canon. I'm not
fluent in German (not by a long shot), but my wife is pretty good at it, and
I can read it well. But I like the idea of a) having a sourcebook no player
can understand, and b) being able to hand out the character sheets in
German. Plus the joy of telling them, take two levels off Gesundheit, and
you are now verlezt! I think it will definitely add to the ambience. And
thanks to everyone for warning me off Frankfurt and Berlin.

Oh, the "Encyclopaedia Vampirica" hasn't any stats in it. It's an
encyclopedia of knowledge tidbits, written like a lexicon.
For example:

A

[...]
Abel: Sohn -> Adams u. -> Evas, Bruder -> Kains, der ihn aus Eifersucht
erschlug (1. Mose 4).
[...]

If you want german char.sheets go to
ftp://ftp.uni-erlangen.de/pub/roleplay/WorldOfDarkness/v3sheet.pdf for the
Vampire-sheet and
ftp://ftp.uni-erlangen.de/pub/roleplay/WorldOfDarkness/magus3sheet.pdf for a
german Mage-sheet, both revised.
