Mine has to be King Albrecht. Although Ciran Far-Traveler is a very
close second.

I personally like Morihei High-Mountain.. 8 Renown Galliard Stargazer
3/9/3 homid 7/9/8 crinos Kalindo.. Its lovley feinting and doing a
redirected attack against someone :)

Also I like Laughs-At-Death.. 5 Renown Ragabash Nuwisha(werecoyote) ..
2/5/3 homid, 4/5/6 Manabozho(crinos). When shes in the umbra, She must be
challeneged by all that wish to attack her.. And she has the option to
decline.. Lovley for me since I keep all 3 characters in the umbra and
bind the hell out of spirits. Shes always my alpha and I have Serene
Wilderness as a territory so I cant be sneak attacked or otherwise engaged
in combat unless I wish to be. It works pretty cool.. lotsa umbral stuff
since I got a case of the umbra a week ago.

People should really start looking into the umbra set.. There are some
VERY nice cards for people in the umbra.. Theres Moon Bridge Assault and
Moon Bridge Attack which are basically Sneak Attacks from one caern to
another. And almost everone playes a caern.. Storm crows are Spirit Allies
that automatically bind for pack attack OR defense. Deep Journey lets any
lupus in the umbra search through their sept hand and bring any caern,
totem, spirit ally or fetish directly into play.. not into your hand.
And im not even gonna mention the Dreamspeaker Mage or Heart of Midnight..
Theres even a Caern that aloows your to discard it when any of your
characters takes a mortal wound in the umbra, It will return your
character to full health into the physical world. My deck rules IMHO,
Havnt lost since I built it..

Well, now that Legacy is here, my fave has swung from Petrov to King Albrecht.
Petrov was a great character (well, at least he was for me!) I used to use him
for Umbral Quests. With that I played all the Close Gauntlet and Guantlet
Fluxes I could get my hands on, as well as get as much armor as I could on him.
If someone comes into the Umbra after Petrov, I just have to last three rounds
and Petrov can automatically escape. This tactic is not foolproof by any
means, but usually it results in six, maybe nine free victory renown for me.

With King Albrecht I go for the hard and fast approach. I put the Grand Klaive
on him, play a Gibbous Moon, use Battle Songs, etc. and Albrecht runs around
Clefting in Twain! Couple this with a few territories, and it's bad news. I
usually take a Kinfolk Den, a Chantry, Hereditary Castle. I also make sure
Albrecht gets a Kiss of Helios and an Aegis on him. With these territories I
also play a Caern of the Weeping Daughter. The way this works out, you can
only attack me if I say so, you can't frenzy and should you manage somehow to
kill the King, my whole pack steps forward to rip your lungs out!

Cheers
Petrov

Banana Split is mad, bad and dangerous to known. He? (dude really looks
like a lady with tits and all, but card says his) has this special
ability that makes him very unique: Once per game after a round's combat
cards have been played, Banana Split can cancel both his card and one
opponent's card by interrupting with a bad joke. "Two Garou walk into a
bar..."

Ewery time I play with Bone Gnawers I use Banana Split and I really tell
one Garou joke. Usually it is a joke that tells how stupid Wendigo named
Wahya-Ohni is. Typical joke might be like this:
- Hey, Wahya-Ohni why your ears are so badly burned?
- When I answered the telephone I realize that it was actually a flat iron.
- But why both ears?
- I had to call Kinfolk Veterinarian too!

It is just a joke, but it is very efective special ability as well.
When I use it with Bums Rush Banana Split tells a joke and he and
opponent does not play a combat card - but rest of my pack will :)

Opponent (if he is not with past life Klaital Stargazer) can't cancel this
ability, because it's not a gift.

Same kind of Bums Rush metod is possible with Pentex/Bane Ally Enticer.

Banana Split can use his ability by himself too. If he use a Battle
Ferfor and cancel both his and opponent card he still have one card to
hit - and because he is metis it is easy situation to bluff Mangle.

I think Bums Rush is very good combat tactic because you can use it when
attacking or defending. When someone use it to you on first round of
combat, you should never hit your enemy. Only good tactic is Evasion if
possible. That is so because if one of the enemies use Suprise Attack you
don't make any damage and they can hit you with no fear.

My fave GOTS ta be Allonzo Montoya. He can use a WHOLE
lotta gifts, STARTS with a Rage of 5 and goes to 10, and if
you throw 1 Black Spiral Dancer with him, you can use the
Beast-of-War totem. BAM instant Rage 13. I have actually
used Rent Asunder no less than 6 times in 3 games! Of course
it helps that I have Count Vlad with a Blood Dagger in the pack!

Well, my favorite cheese er... Wyrm character is probably Morgan.
Yes, there are Wyrm characters with more Rage, Gnosis, or Health, but
how many of them auto-frenzy? It works something like this.

Player 1: "Carleson declares that my character is going first! I'm
going to hit the Pentex Refinery! I use Attacking the Wyrm to pull my
whole pack in!"

Player 2: "Fine. Morgan steps in the way. Let's play cards.
Okay, I play Gang Beating. Well, I took more than three damage, and
you did too so I Frenzy and..."

*later*

Player 1: "You bastard, you killed my entire pack!"

Player 2: "Yeah, kinda sucks, don't it?"

As far as my favorite Gaia character, I have to go with Song Chaing.
For 7 renown, there isn't a single character in the game with better
stats, and besides, I use Lone Wolf Lupo all the time so Song gets a
Chainsaw and a Portable Computer. <g> Not to mention drawing out all
the other nonfetish equipment in my deck (which is about 25% of it)
gradually during the first equip/ally phase and giving it to everyone
else in my pack, which is Grimfang and King Albrecht.

Speaking of whom, King Albrecht is nice too, especially against Wyrm
decks. Give him a Fang Dagger and watch the fun.

There are a couple things that seriously screw any kind of Umbra
dominated deck that relies on territories.

1. Anything that kills one of your territories. Your Serene
Wilderness isn't in the Umbra, so someone could just waste it.

2. Rite of Summoning. No, you're not going to try and bind that
spirit. You're going to try and attack Golgol Fangs First.

3. Spirit Drain. You're going to attack that spirit? Fine, it's
gone and Grimfang is back to full health.

4. Gates of Malfeas. Hee hee hee. I love the wording on this card:
any character in the Umbra SHOULD not take any actions. If he does,
he's discarded. <g>

5. Lord of the Realm. All of you, OUT of the Umbra, right now.

6. A voting deck. You can't vote against it since you're in the
Umbra... they could Skindancer all your pack members away or something
equally heinous.

My point is that you can't rely on just the Umbra to win if other
people are in the game. It's too unreliable a source.

Is this right. That seriously limits Jackals Curse's effectiveness, and
all other moots in a 2 player game if one pack is always in the Umbra. I
always thought that Umbra bound pack members could not vote on, and were
not effected by moots, but the instant that they step out they are
effected.

It is my understanding from the Legacy FAQs that territories do exist in
both the real world and the Umbra. Anyone interested should check them

One of my favorite Rage characters (although nearly impossible to get) is
Count Vladimir. This guy can frenzy, step sideways, and regenerate, and
can use more gifts than any other character in the game (24- Old Storm
Chaser can only use about 18 or something like that). He also has high
statistics (Rage 9, Gnosis 7, which is quite high for a wyrm character,
and Health 10) To top this all off, he can even regenerate his lowest
damage card at the end of any round in which he killed something. Even if
you kill him, he doesn't have some ridiculously high Victory point value
despite all the neat things he can do. **cough**cough**King

The ones in the umbra still stay there. Stuck Sideways is only when
someone is stepping sideways.. As soon as a character of mine gets into

Also.. If the character calling the moot is in the umbra with the 20
characters from the other pack, He/She MAY call the moot but I doubt one
guy can get 20 renown <G> Cept maybe king alby with 3 aegises and 2

As long as the character calling the moot is in the realm with a member of

Nod.. Well if you have 19 characters in the umbra and 1 in the real world,
You can call the moot.. But if all 20 are in the umbra, I was taught you
cant call a moot unless you are on the plane with the tribe your voting

his members goes "Why the hell you doing that? theres no packs to vote

if the ther guy has none his pack leader is like " why you doing that

Lord of the Realm is a special case as far as Gifts are concerned.
Technically, since you can't use effects across the Gauntlet, then a
lot of things no longer take effect, like oh, I don't know, the Rite
of Realm Binding. It's a Bane gift that allows you to force any
Umbral characters, allies, enemies, etc. out of the Umbra immediately,
sort of like a mass Rite of Return. There's also the Incarna Sigil,
which allows characters to affect things across the Gauntlet.

And if I recall right, the only requirement for a Moot to go off is
for there to be more than one Gaia pack. Just because that Gaia pack
isn't able to vote doesn't mean that your moots won't go off.

And you CAN attack Caerns. It's a moot called Pack Reprimand. You
USED to have a Caern. <g>

Possibly the easiest way to shut down a deck that relies on the Umbra,
however, is with Close Gauntlet, Stuck Sideways, and Rite of Realm
Binding.

I'm not saying Umbra decks don't work. Sometimes they do. I just
don't feel that the Umbra is a safe way to win a game because there
are too many ways to mess with it.

Not necessarily true. From the Legacy FAQ:

Q: Do Territories cross the Gauntlet?

Yes.

This isn't true at all. Moots do not affect umbral characters (cf: umbra
rules addition).

>My point is that you can't rely on just the Umbra to win if other
>people are in the game. It's too unreliable a source.

Umbral based decks can win, it's a matter of watching out for things
like Gates of Malfeas (there are a good number of things that are *not*
actions that your malfeas'ed characters can still do) and Incarna Sigils,
and going after Umbra only enemies.

--tots

PS: If you have the Caern of the Snow Leopard out and the Gates of Malfeas
comes out to spread Wyrmful joy to your Umbral characters, and you decide
to take an action (which means your character will be destroyed), can you
discard the Caern to bring him back (ie: is "destroyed" equivalent to
"killed")?

You could say that about just about any strategy, though. My Bastet and
Mokole decks laugh at moot decks; they're not affected by the vast majority of
moots, so why should they care? My Hunts-at-Night deck completely annihilates
pack decks (First *Team*? I only see one...), as does my Count Vlad deck
(Gang Beating). A Dead Zone crushes gift decks. And so on. Every strategy
has some easily exploitable flaws, from Umbra to Hero to Pack to Moot. The
trick is knowing how to balance your deck enough to cover its weaknesses.

Ok, let's clear up some stuff right off the bat...

"Characters in the Umbra mat NOT vote in Moots, nor are they
affected by Moots WHILE they are in the Umbra"
-With Fang and Claw p.25-26
(emphasis added by me)

Ok, as CLEARLY stated by here, you cannot hold an 'Umbral Moot'
there AIN'T no such animal Bubba!
Also, you will note that it says CHARACTERS may not be affected
by Moots while they're in the Umbra. This is important for two
reasons. One, I can Jackal's Curse you all DAY, because it affects
your packs kills, not any particular character. Two, obviously, I can't
Skindancer your characters while they're in the Umbra, but if they're
not... oh well.
Now a point on the defense. You can NOT target a Skindancer Moot
against a character in the Umbra, pass it, then say "If your character
leaves the Umbra, it'll affect him/her." Reason? Because even targeting
a character with a moot while they're Umbra is still an effect.
Especially
one like Skindancer where if it fails, an effect is generated.
Anyhow, my MAIN point is, yes an Umbral deck can be effective, but NO
it's not invincible. The biggest drawback as I see it is this...
"Yes, I can't attack any member of your Umbral pack. What's this?
I just put down a Pentex Refinery, and a Pentex Forestry team! Oh,
you're in the Umbra? You can't hit them? Oh, well, I guess I'll get the
Forestry team next turn. Cool, 14 points for a refinery!!! Uh-oh! Sorry
about your Caern, I'll get that mean ole' Forestry team next turn for ya."

Umbral safety also works as Umbral Impotence.

No they can't. Folks in the Umbra are not involved in moots and can't be
targeted by Moots.

Actually, if you can block others' umbral access it works just fine. Loss of
caerns and Rites of Realm Binding do this wonderfully.

Like any deck you have to be able to deal with various strategies, but that's
just part of the game. Umbral decks are a very valid and useful strategy.

To which I say... "Oh well, I wasn't coming back anyway. Hey, there're a
couple of Drattosi here...oh, you're stuck in the physical world? Okay, I'll
clean up here. Ta-ta!" It works both ways. Being stuck in the Umbra doesn't
matter much if your deck is designed to *play* in the Umbra. If you're
looking to hack on a bunch of spirits, being bound in the Umbra by an opponent
is an extra measure of security. He thinks "Hah! He's stuck, I can go about
my business uninterrupted." When in fact, the reverse is true.

Cheese.

Personally, my favorites would be Blood-on-the-Wind (just because he's
incredibly cool), Walks-With-Might (ditto), Old Storm-Chaser, and Naomi. If I
had to pick one and only one, I'd probably choose Walks-With-Might, mainly
because BotW has such goofy crinos art.

Among the Wyrm it'd be Hunts-at-Night, hands down. There is simply no way to
describe the incredible usefulness of this character...no other character out
there single handedly annihilates an entire deck strategy, especially with
such ludicrous ease.

What about two of my favorites.

Allamande. Challenges can't be refused. Yes I know there are ways to counter
this, but when you start off the game with this ability it can help taking
out a Kinfolk Vet and the like.

Also a Metis, and they have some very useful gifts.

Plus you start off with a Rage of 6 (Vital Blow etc.) Mix him in with
other heavy hitters (Walks-with-Might) and you have a quick kill deck.
Give him a Mokole Hide to boost his health, and he's all set.

The other would be Aurgra. Renown 8, with a great ability (can use any
auspice gifts except Theurge).

Will fit in with almost any deck, and has a very high Crinos health (a little
weak in the Rage department but whatever). No tribal hoser cards will affect
her, but she also doesn't get to use any tribe specific gifts, so yes, she is
susceptible to Lunar Eclipse. If you're going to us a two or three Auspice
centered pack, then she bears consideration.

This is not a good strategy. Many times I have run into decks that rely
on people going after these to protect their pack. As expected, they get
creamed. You just can't afford to have anything that is extraneous; if
any of you can, I will be impressed and would like to see the deck. I
make sure that every card in my Sept deck is useful. I just found out
that guys running the local gaming store play Apocalypse rules. When I
gave them a game, I rushed to find stuff to chuck in to make the size
quotas. It really ticked me off, because I didn't get the cards I wanted
quickly, with all the junk I threw in. They, on the other hand, had huge
Sept decks...Grandfather Bannion et al., and a Black Furies deck.
I used Golgol, Old Storm Chaser, Sings-for-the-Beast, Tracker-by-Moonlight
and Dreams-of-Wonder.
The result? I won. Not by a small margin either. I was sitting
on around 47vp, with no dead characters. The volume and rate of gift
cancelling was unbelievable. So many Surprise Attacks to piss me off
(since I don't have any.) I locked up Grandfather Bannion for so long
with my Kinfolk Small Town Cop, by the time he drew a Sneak Attack, I was
so close to victory that the game was virtually sewn up. In short, I was
once again convinced that big decks don't work. Of course, you can ignore
such a long post about the usefulness of fodder allies, but my Flame
Spirits ended up useless; I kicked ass with (surprisingly) Orville.I
desperately wanted to switch 'em for a Tourist Litterbug Lout.

Actually, I have a deck that will allow me to deal with Umbral matters,
should they come up, but I don't rely on having to HIDE in the Umbra to
win. The point I was making, that you were kind enough to reprint for me,
was that an Umbral deck is good... when your opponent is unprepared for
it. Perhaps I worded it badly by saying that no deck is invincible.
That's
obvious. But a better way of saying it would be...
A balanced deck has a better chance of victory than a single purpose deck.
And, no, I don't buy the arguement that This-Kind-of-Deck can ALWAYS
beat That-Kind-of-Deck. Moot Decks are fine, until you don't draw a
Skindancer
first round, and Golgol chews on your voters. Combat God Decks work fine,
until that Umbral Deck gives them no target to kill. A Gift Deck is
wonderful,
until a Shut-Up-Thank-You Deck shuts it down. I think you get my point
here.

Um, you can discard a Caern at will. Second I could vote for giving you
a caern
(assuming you don't have one to begin with). Plus, I can in FACT hit any
spirit
in the Umbra that can hit me with the sole exception of Flame Spirits.
Check
the rules. Spirits exist in BOTH the Umbral and Physical realms and can
be
effected from either realm. Nice try tho.

Oh yeah, I have one more question. How do you figure to start your entire
pack
in the Umbra? I know Naomi can start there, but she's the only one. For
every
one else, they have to Step Sideways or use a Caern or Gift. Are you
telling me
that you can get your entire pack into the Umbra on the first turn, every
time?
That would really suprise me, and probably get me to call a judge over to
check
your deck. You shouldn't have to rely on certain cards and combos to win
a
game. A good deck should be able to deal with any situation.

This is irrelevant to your original point. You claimed that moots such

Geez, Get your lines fixed they are all fucked.. Anyway.. You can only

get removed :). I have 3 distractions in my deck (who doesnt) and
Redirected Attack & Nerve Clusters.. I guess the point is I dont JUST
depend upon the umbra.. But its a big part of my strategy.. If I manage to
get my guys in the umbra before you can get in there, theres not a damn
thing you can do except sit back and watch me draw 10 cards a round
(Chimera, Old Storm Chaser & Mantle of El Dorado) cause I got 2 Deep
Journeys that let me get any Totem or Fetish..

Im so happy though, I played a guy that no one can beat and whooped him 2
out of 3 times.. He won cause I accidently left a Nexus Crawler in my

Ok, Stop right here. Allow me to quote the card. Caern Building
"Select a player to own the caern. If the vote passes, the player
gains 4 victory ponts. Yada yada yada." By the way, nothing in
the entire card says ANYTHING about the person who recieves
it having a choice. If you choose to discard the caern, you lose

Woah!!! If I manage to kill him, you bring him back? So is Morhei in the
Umbra or not? Read The Caern of the Snow Leopard carefully, if the
character dies in the UMBRA, then you can discard the caern to bring
him back in the physical realm. If I kill him in the physical realm, he's
just plain ole' dead. But you are correct, it's a real pain in the butt
to
kill a Kalindo user anytime. By the way, how big's your Combat deck
and how many of the cards are Kalindo? I've normally found it's very hard
to make a Kalindo deck, even without worrying about Umbral combat cards.
Or do you not include the Umbral combat cards? See, I don't know what
your combat deck looks like.

Wrong again. Ever heard of an Incarna Sigil? I would sooner walk into
a tournament without pants on than without two Incarna Sigils in my
pack reserves. It's a great card. It allows me to fully interact with
the
Umbra. At will. But, it's a one way ticket. Now I won't go so far as to

say that I can hit your characters in the Umbra and you can't hit back.
I think that's a load of horse pucky. But what I do take it to mean is
that
I have to initiate combat. You can't declare against me as a legal
target.
But if I jump you... damn tootin you can hit me back.

Yeah, it's always fun taking "The Invincible Guy" down a notch. Humility
is a wonderful lesson.

By the way (sorry this is taking so long), I have a useful idea for YOU!
It came to me last night. Umbral Escape. Now I know it seems to
make no sense for an Umbral deck, but hear me out. Let's say your
pack is in the umbra. And I pull the nasty trick of slapping down a
Pentex Forestry team, which kills your caern. Then, since I "know"
you're locked in the Umbra (for the most part), I put down my Pentex
Refinery or my Zmei, which I can now kill at my leisure. Well, of course
you'll want to play combat cards for my opponent, so, I do a bit of
damage to the big baddy, and all of a sudden, you throw an Umbral
Escape for it (which is legal)!!! Well, the combat round's over for me,
unless I can somehow chase it, but now it's your turn. Guess what?
That enemy is in the Umbra till the next Regeneration Phase. So, you
go ahead and finish it off. Whaddya think? Pretty sneaky huh?
Try it out. I bet you'll like it.

Wrong. You can voluntarily discard any card you have in play...

There's one thing that bears mentioning about the Flame Spirit that
makes it an AWESOME ally to have in ANY deck that can fit it:

Shieldmate.

The player of the Shieldmate chooses where all damage cards go. The
Flame Spirit is only affected by Gifts and Umbral attacks. As long as
your fight is physical, you can do something like this:

1. Rite of Summoning. You there, Morgan, attack Bron Mac Fionn here.

2. Shieldmate. Bring in the Flame Spirit as the shieldmate.

3. All your combat cards hit the Flame Spirit, doing no damage to it
while I pound you into the dirt.

Caern of the Snow Leopard only works if you die in the Umbra. If
someone forces you back into the physical world and kills you, you
stay quite nicely dead thanks. Besides, the easiest way to kill
anyone, especially if you have Deep Journey or something like that is
with the ever irritating Thunder's Gauntlet/Knife Wind combination.
Fast way to deal effectively with any "tank" character.

Unless someone yanks all your guys back. Lord of the Realm is a
bitch. On the matter of Morehei, unless he is channeling Klaital
Stargazer, I don't think he can use Luna's Armor. BTW, try using
Seeks the Truth too. Draw power is always fun... though for true
speed use a Bone Gnawer and throw in Caern of Awakening, because it IS
legal for you to "discard" a zero card sept hand and redraw.

Oh yeah, to follow on what Zhyzak said, another card I would never go
into a tournament without is Journey Onward. I know it's really kind
of a low blow, but still, if someone's only got one Stargazer in his
pack, he's asking for it, IMO.

Sure his stats are low, but there are lots of neat Bone Gnawer things that can
get them up pretty high. Survivor is very nice. That has saved Shakey's butt
several times. The Rat totem is a personal favorite, and the Frankweiler Sword
can come in handy when used with the Bone Gnawer past life. Shakey can also
use all those neat healing gifts as well. His stats are low, but he's a great
thurge for 8 points....

Duh.. The whole point of the deck is to stay in the umbra and pump up all
my guys ridiculously.. I have Mage Talismans for lunas armor. Also I have
umbral escapes and people like to umbral escape when I umbral escape so we
both are in the umbra and combat continues. We dont play with any of those

JOURNEY ONWARD. . They are low blows and cheap as a fuck so we dont play

Unless the Gift specifically says you may benefit from more than one,
you are limited to one of the same Gift per person. 1 Luna's Armor on a
character, 1 Aegis on a character, 2 Wyrm Hides on a character, etc.

These are (and have been) the rules since unlimited edition came out.

(although this isn't stopping you from having any kind of house rule
that you want -- it's just not legal for tournament play)

Hmmm, must have missed that a couple of months ago. That's the way it's
played. If the Gift doesn't say you can have multiples (or gain benefits
from multiples) of itself, then you may only have one of a Gift on a
character.

I have to disagree that it's an insanely stupid rule. What if you slap a
Mages Talisman on a character and use 3 Luna's Armors, 3 Aegis and 3
Wyrm Hides along with a Mokole Hide? That's +20 Health. While that could
be handy, it's pretty far out there...

You can only Alias a character once (you can do it again if that
original Alias gets destroyed).

But you're more than welcome to use your own house rules (just not in
sanctioned tournament play). :)

Yeah, and if you've been keeping track you'll notice I've been saying the same
thing.

That they did, and if you'll notice I defended it as well. Then you went into
how wonderful your deck was, and how it kicked ass and would cream everyone
else . . . people get touchy about that kinda thing.

Like WW is consistent. Come on. :) In the Limited edition (and in the basic
rules) you can play gifts as much as you want. The no-more-than-one is a
tournament rule, though I'm not sure about how recent it is (certainly within
the last year or so, but I'm not sure exactly when it originated). It's like
the 4 card max rule in Magic. . . technically, you can build a deck with 20
Plague Rats, but it never happens because everyone plays by DC rules. Same
idea. You can technically play more than one copy of a gift on someone, just
not in tournaments.

No, you wouldn't. My decks often have a heavy Umbra component to them, mainly
because I'm paranoid about running into people who use it heavily. I just
don't rely on it exclusively, except for maybe two decks (one's a Bane deck
that works on surprise; the other is a Kailindo/Stargazer deck that works fine
in or out of the Umbra). If you ran into my Vlad or BSD deck I doubt very
much that you'd beat the living shit out of me. Probably the reverse,
actually.

>If everyone were to tell everyone else what they had in their deck before the

Hey, I never asked you to. The only reason I argued the point at all was

Yeah, and I make decks able to deal with both. Sometimes they get stomped,
sometimes they kick ass, and usually it's somewhere in the middle. Which is
mostly what the game's all about.

Life, an answer can be found in Rev. Bob's Legacy FAQ. It reads:

Rheya Wrath of heaven can use cards that require a Wendigo Prequisite, but
since the PL requires a Wendigo CHARACTER, it is not possible, since rheya
is a Uktena, and the tribe requrements on Past Lives are not really
prequisites. Besides, do you think White Wold would be stupid enough to
turn Rheya into a Rage 10, Gnosis 6, Health 12 war machine who's frenzies
can't be cancelled? I dont' think so. :)

Perhaps from Justin Achilli who posted it to the rage mailing list a few
months ago, and reaffirmed by Brian Glass just a few days ago.

Again, you are welcome to play any way you see fit, but this is the rule
as it pertains to tournaments (ie: it is part of the errata assumed to be
in effect). Personally, I think the rule makes sense and lends the game
to be less cheesy and ridiculous.

I really think the only preparation one really needs against an umbral
strategy is the Incarna Sigil. Gates of Malfeas, etc, are nice, but
not necessary. The Incarna Sigil is more versatile, letting physical
characters swipe away umbra only enemies/victims even if opponents
are not playing any sort of umbral strategy.

>have told you what I have in my deck and you have just listed cards that

If I know that I'm not going to be in the Umbra very often (or not at all),
I'll throw in a Gates of Malfeas in my deck. Stuck Sideways was a bread
and butter "gotcha!" card in my play group for a good while. A Closed
Gauntlet or two will slow you down as you try to enter the umbra.
A Bane deck will rock your world with things like Lord of the Realm,
Airt Mastery, and Bane Moonbridge. These things are not all rare cards,
and it is likely you might face them. Hell, *I* have all the cards I
just listed--what makes you think that other people won't have them?

>If I were to play you tomorrow with you not knowing who I was
>I would beat the living shit out of you.

Oh. Ok. Clearly, your logic just rewls.

>If everyone were to tell everyone

Again, your flawed reasoning and lack of rationality leads to such
absurd and ridiculous arguments.

>My point is you wouldnt know what kind of deck I was playing.. You may
>think ill be playing umbra when im really playing a tank deck, or vice
>versa.

What does this have to do with umbral strategies?

Look. The Umbral strategy is a fine one. But like every other strategy
in Rage it *can* be countered--ie: you are not guaranteed to win against
an opponent who has a brain. The crux of countering an umbral strategy
is the incarna sigil (IMO). Being in the Umbra is not the greatest thing
since sliced bread, and yes, intelligent people DO make preparations against
that type of strategy, just like they do against moot decks, pack decks,
and tank decks.

'sokay. The Bane deck works pretty well against tanks. Bane-ridden
Werewolf hunters, don't you know.

How about this one? Play with Lamurun and lots of weenie cards that
give you renown like the various Quest cards and Victory parties.

Gates of Malfeas.
Attack an umbral opponent with some kind of spirit (or Rainpuddle)

Discard a Weaver's Quest to draw back Gates of Malfeas.

As far as I know, this interpretation is right. Unless a Gift says
otherwise, you can put multiple copies of it on a character. Think
about it for a moment. Why would they place restrictions on the
number of copies of a Gift that can be played on someone if normally
the Gift could be played multiple times? If you could only have one
copy of a Gift on someone at a time, then they wouldn't need to have
the restriction printed on Luna's Armor, would they?

That isn't necessarily true. One of my decks is based entirely around
using Lamurun's special ability to cycle cards in and out of my
discard pile. Some of the cards that I cycle a lot are Environmental
Action, Greater Banishment, the Fianna Past Life, and yes, the Gates
of Malfeas. It simply is a good all around deck that is reasonably
capable of dealing with just about any situation it comes across. I
think I could stand a pretty good chance against anyone with this
deck. Or I might use a Homestead on the Incarna Avatar and watch the
fun. These are all good cards that I keep in my deck because they
have uses. Why do you think that anyone would lose?

Of course they're low blows. Then again, so is Anna Kliminski using

You can't take any actions until it's healed, and it's Aggravated. I

When you play in a tournament, the idea is to win. I have no problem

It's more like asking the Wyrm to play without Renegade Werewolf Hunters,
Priests, Survival Nuts, and Honest Senators. Reasonable requests in friendly
play. Casual play isn't about killer decks (for most of us, anyway); it's

Sorry... I believe Redirected Attack only workes against an attack

One other thing: I think Nerve Cluster, and other cards that do
things like it (Vital Blow, Mangle, etc) take effect at the end of the
current combat round, so if you hit someone with a Nerve Cluster, he
still has the chance to punish you for one round before he's screwed.

Unless, of course, the cards you play with Spirit of the Fray are
enough to kill him.

Ok lesse Gogol is health 10.. a normal sized sept deck (40 - 50 cards)
would take quite a few rounds for him to get up to 20+ health.. And dude
all it takes is a mangle and its all over. By the time Gogol is 20+ health

Now if the sept deck is 25 cards with 2 wyrm skins, a mokole hide, 3 lunas
armors. 3 mages talismans, 3 aegises, 3 shapeshifts and other misc cards,
THAT is cheezy.

Redirected Attack says "This card is only playable in the Umbra" .. Morhei
IS in the umbra therefore I can play it, And since were intereacting, It
will hit you.

The second thing.. There has been countless post about when the card
effect takes place.. Imagine if its a real life battle.. someone Hits you
with a nerve cluster FIRST then you try to throw a mangle.. youll be rage
1 before you can do anything.. soon as it hits it takes effect I believe.
I mean what would be the point of spirit of the fray if you couldnt do
cool stuff like that? You wouldnt be able to dodge cause the card effect
"Dodges any 1 attack" takes effect at the end of the round, Any card you
threw with a special effect wouldnt work like mangle or head wound or
anything.. Its very confusing.. Can someone from whitewolf give us a
ruling?

No it wont.. "The mantle of el dorado lets its plays draw an ADDITIONAL 3
sept cards during the redraw phase".. You dont GET a redraw phase
therefore you cant draw the additional cards. Telemarketing Campaign says
"The pack must skip its next redraw phase" .. the ENTIRE THING.. Seeks the
Truth is like the ONLY way.. The Caern of Awakening wont work either
because you discard your sept hand at the end of the redraw phase and
since you dont get one, You cant do it. Seeks the truth does his redrawing
at the Combat Phase :)

No kidding. Contrary to what you said above, a normal sized sept deck isn't
40-50 cards; it's about 25-35 (in tournies, anyway). The rule of one gifts
per character is a tournament rule, where the above cheesiness would come into
play. That's the only place the rule applies--at tournies. Anywhere else is
governed by house rules.

Mantle of El Dorado works, too, if you get it out.

"+20" is an aphorism. I mean "a shitload of health" when I mean "+20"

>And dude all it takes is a mangle and its all over.

That's not true. Unless your guy frenzies or has a few heartbreakers
or rent asunders (or any other high damage cards), Golgol lives. Combined
with something like Survivor (which needs a mage's talisman), that's really
gross. And with the anti-SLAF/mangle cards in Legacy, Golgol can keep
going while mangled. More health makes him extremely frightening, since
it will take more cards on average to kill him (incl. sept cards).

>Its up to you to kill gogol before

Uh, ok. Look, I've played apocalypse style games where Golgol channeled
Gunnar Dragurbane on turn ONE, thanks to Pure Breeding. Granted, this
prevented him from using any gifts, but he was still rather difficult to
kill--still, you cannot say fault your opponent for your dumb luck.

>Now if the sept deck is 25 cards with 2 wyrm skins, a mokole hide, 3 lunas
>armors. 3 mages talismans, 3 aegises, 3 shapeshifts and other misc cards,

That's exactly my point. If I wanted the indestructible Golgol, I would
throw out everything not related to that purpose and get my deck as
close to the minimum as possible. That leads to approximately 10-20 % of
my sept deck being health boosters like Luna's Armor--if I can just slap
those down without limitation, I also get the added bonus of increasing
cardflow. If I make a deck like this, how is it my opponents' fault for
not "waiting for gogol (sic) to get that high.."?

The question is not whether it's a good thing to have the limit in light
of your casual player with a sept deck of about 40-50, but whether it's
good in a tournament. Just because you think it's fine and dandy to
run around with as much health as a big refinery or a large dragon doesn't
mean it's good for real gameplay.

Read the card. It lets you draw the cards during the Equip/Ally phase.

Bullshit. RTFC.

And the Mantle does it during the Equip/Ally. Read the card before you open
your mouth.
