a long time and had to restart several times when i made a mistake or moved
but i got it in the end.

With my first character, wanted to see how far I'd be allowed to swim
and what would happen if I tried to swim from the Westfall coast across
to the other continent...LMAO..
Let's you get pretty far, but like when you take a boat and the screen
changes to the map with the red dashes and the X marks the spot for
trip, you get booted back to your shore...a good 20 minutes of my life
I'll never get back again! lol...
Hmmm... I've run all the way from Mulgore to the Eversong Woods Belf
start zone with a brand new level 10 Tauren hunter, in order to tame a
Springpaw cub.
Then feeling the craziness build in my head, I did the same for a Vale
Moth from the Draenei start zone of Azuremyst Isle. Took a while to get
past the guards, heh. I had to run, die, return as spirit, res, run a
bit further, die again, rinse, wash, repeat. But finally I got inside
the start zone and tammed myself a moth! Woot! :-)
Then just for fun I levelled to about 16 IIRC in the rest of Azuremyst
by grinding mobs. Bit silly as there are no Horde quests, but I'd never
seen the zone before and wasn't into starting Alliance toons at the time
(I still prefer Horde, but I've now a few low level Alliance alts I play
very occasionally).
My last act in the zone was to attack the Exodar just for laughs. I
figure they don't see the under attack warning pop up nearly enough :-D
Of course I was slaughtered in microseconds, after which I had a
monochromatic look through the Exodar, then resed at a spirit healer and
hearthed it back to Bloodhoof Village.

[sorry for the blank post]
A couple, more or less pointless....
Tried a couple times to see how fast I could solo Deadmines. I killed
all the bosses, but didn't loot. Got it down to 5 minutes, 20 seconds.
Took a potion of water walking, and tried to see what happened if I
rode south from Kalimidor's south cape. Passed the South Sea Islands,
took another, and kept going. I eventually rode off the edge of the
world, and had to spirit rez in SW.
pt
Ha ha ha. I've done that a few times for a waste of an hour or probably
more. As an alliance, I'd mind vision the horde leaving BB or Gadgetzan.
Also swam all the way around Kalimdor looking for anything interesting.
Damn, many pointless things are popping into my head now. LoL.

we did something similar - when our server (doomhammer) was down my
guild went onto a RP server and created a guild of pink haird gnomes
called "Doomhammers down again"
We carefully assembeld in SW while remaining lvl 1 and then we all
(about 20 of us) did a Raid on Hogger. Even thoug ha coupl edinged lvl
2 on way from the trash... we were all slaughtered :(
Dont think the local RP community was very impressed with our very
"non-RP" invasion of their server... but was fun... and we didnt stay
long. Doomhammer became more stable soon after, so we didnt get to
revisit much.

Just out of curiosity: How did you come up with the 10g to buy the guild
charter without killing so many mobs that you were much above level 1? Did
somebody have a character there to sponsor you, or is there a secret trick
that I am missing?

That sounds like you had fun :)
We did a level 1 IF-SW run as a guild event once. By the time we arrived in
SW most of us were level 3, even so, a raid of about 30ish level 3s had no
chance against hogger :)

HHmm - good point, no idea !!!
It was a strange choice of server, as it was Spanish Speaking (and we
were an English speeking guild... made up of lots of nationalities) so
I guess one of guildies did have a char there.. and thats why it was
selected. Dont think there is a trick you are missing.
We were certainly all lvl 1 (with the odd 2) for the assault. We had

I don't think that is pointless. Your point was to get a particular pet.
Getting "drunk" in game - that actually is pointless.
I have gone on mad adventures for trivial reasons. Like the time my
level 12 Tauren hunter swam north from Grom'gol to Wetlands, ran inland
and up the mountain to Thesamar, to tame a black bear.
Yeah, but cats are available in the Tauren start zone with exactly the
same abilities. I'll grant you moths are not, but it's not like they're
so special either. Any old pet will do to take you to higher levels.
Certainly it would have been saner to have waited till I had a mount and
flight points, and maybe was high enough to escape Alliance guards - or
at least run further than a couple steps as they're beating on me. It
took a lot of rez-running to get me to where I was going for the moths
LOL.

For whatever reason - perhaps because I played D2 in hardcore mode - I
absolutely hate when my characters die, and will do whatever necessary
to prevent pointless deaths.
As such, back when I played Alliance, I had to get a lvl 11 Draenei to
Stormwind (this was before the Harbour). I refused to do the Wetlands
suicide run, and instead made her swim down the coast from Menethil
Harbour to Westfall.
In case anyone's wondering, that's about 50 minutes you're doing

Every time my characters log out, they have to be in an Inn on a bed
or, if there is no bed at the Inn, near a cozy fire, etc.
If they are not perfectly aligned on the pillow, I stand them up,
adjust them, and /sleep again. Only then will I log out.

I did the same thing in my early days with my hunter. Back then I
wasn't using an addons and went from Abuderine to Wetlands going North
to Eversong Woods to get a dragonhawk. I remember at the time I had
just got the Warcraft atlas and used that to figure out which way to
go. Come to think of it, I just hit 2 years on WoW last week, how
time flies. But I still have that dragonhawk and later went to Echo
Isles to get a tiger which is still my main on that alt. I can't
really think of anything I've done that was really pointless.
Everything had a purpose, even exploring which might have seemed
pointless prior to the achievement system, but is not so now.
I did that the first time I ever went to Gadgetzan, swam there from
Theramore. The first time I went to Feralas I also swam from
Desolace, don't recall why I did that instead of walking since that
was around a year in a half ago. Also swam to that island that's just
southeast of Rachet, non hostile humans but nothing there otherwise.
It looks like one of those places that Blizzard was thinking of doing
something with but then abandoned, like that island just southwest of
Southshore that's full of elite hostile spirits, Purgatory island I
think it's called.
Actually, there's a number of quests there.
pt
> Also swam to that island that's just

If it's the one that I think you mean it's actually used as part of the
level 30 warrior quest. You end up fighting the humans as part of a
challenge and the reward is berserker stance.
steve.kaye
Really? I got a horde warrior that just hit 30 so I have to check
into that. I should have looked it up but I guess it was so long ago
that it was at a time when I didn't use WoWhead to look up stuff.
Anyhow I was under the impression that my next warrior quest would be
at level 40 from that Troll quest giver located just Northeast of
Tarren Mill, and in that case I did look it up when I came across the
guy while exploring. Anyhow I just looked up wowhead and don't see
anything, could this have been a quest that was removed like the one
near the Eastvale Logging Camp?
> Anyhow I just looked up wowhead and don't see anything
It's there, under Database > Quests > Classes > Warrior. Quest name is
The Affray.
It doesn't have a level, required level nor a faction so it will fall to
the bottom if you sort on those columns, which can make it hard to see.

Did another search, this time by spells rather than quests and found
it, part of a quest chain called "the Islander" given by a NCP named
Klannoc Macleod, "there can be only one". Interesting that it says
the quest is for both sides but the questgiver who starts the chain is
in Ironforge, however in the comments it mentions that horde players
would see a warrior trainer in OG or TB to start this chain.
Something new to try when I get home. From looking further in the
comments, it seems that any of the warrior trainers in the major
cities can give the start to this quest chain.
That's why I couldn't find it since I had looked by level, but later I
looked by class quests and found it. It's a quest chain that begins
by speaking to the warrior trainer for your home city.
Correction I looked up spells and then found berserker stance and the
quest you get it from.
That sounds like my druid's swiming trip from the Zoram Strand to
Feathermoon. It took forever.
I was only later, after running into the naga on the way and managing
to kill them, that I realized that I probably should have gone through
Desolas and took the path in Feralas that leads to the ferry to
Feathermoon.
Well, you most likely ended up giving a cheap supply of eggs to the price

"Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on

Did it last night and after completing it and getting Berserker
stance, I was directed to go see that troll I mentioned earlier for
another warrior quest, now that one is listed as level 40 but could be
picked up at lower levels.
I'm sure there's economist-language for this, but I've already
discovered that you can't really affect the market by simply radically
undercutting it unless you really have volume or are willing to buy
the high priced items and relist them low. It turns out,
counterintuitively, that you can quickly change a market by making
very conservative, progressive undercuts. The seller of a higher
priced item is not going to buy out your lower priced item if it's
close enough to their price.
I take the auction game fairly seriously, and I go as far as to send
thank you notes to people who buy from me, and I tend to seek them out
to offer them mats before listing them. If I can barter for something
besides gold, I consider that much more interesting than gold as an
end in itself. I've rolled on an RP server (WrA) in hopes that I can
really pursue a barter role, as opposed to "grinding for gold." I
would love to be able to play a profession role that could insist on
trades and refuse gold :-)
My mage already asks for "a stack of [Rune of Portal]" instead of "a
tip for a taxi". That's generally not well-received, not that I care.
Am I correct in assuming that this kind of exploration is not rewarded?
I seem to recall extremely few intersting locations in out-of-the-way
places...

The only pointless thing I'll do is do walks (or, now, ride) instead of
griphon flights, but I only do that when I'm in very a particular mood.

Yes, there is some areas in the Eastern Kingdoms that Horde does not
have easy access to. Going down south from Tarren Mill may have been
easier, though. At least walking is a lot faster than swimming, although
on the other hand, walking means rather more interaction with Alliance NPCs.

It may well have been the price gougers buying your eggs, then
re-listing them. That's what would have happened in EVE Online, and I

It makes them appear lower level then they are, but doesn't change
their actual level, so has no effect on game mechanics, just tricks
you into thinking they're easier than they are, a drunken
overconfidence kinda deal, nice touch :-)

At level 12, walking means dying a lot, since first you have to reach
Tarren Mill (plenty lvl 20ish mobs on the road to aggro you), then get
through Arathi (lvl 30+ mobs near enough the road to aggro very
easily) Obviously walking through Wetlands is similar to through
Hillsbrad, but it at least cuts out the Arathi stage.

Ooh boy did I have volume. According to Auctionner I sold 866g worth
of eggs at 10s each, that's 8660 eggs. If the re-listers bought two
thirds of them, they would have to sell 576 eggs at 1g each, or 288 at
2g each, which is what I saw most listed at. Maybe the market is that
big, but I know a lot of individual buyers also got cheap eggs from
me, so I call it mission accomplished to spread some Winter Veil cheer
around.
Also I did list some eggs at prices in between mine and the "normal"
2g ech price, to make it a little more expensive to buy me out, but I
did that on a different account to keep my stats clean.

There were very few places that I discovered that might have gone to an
achievement, other than that, no rewards. Back before WotLK one of my
horde discovered Stormwind (no harbor then) while swimming North from
Booty Bay to the Wetlands. When I checked the map, sure enough, it was
the Stormwind map.

Leveling from 79 to 80. The experience was essentially a drastic
reduction in my character's PvP abilities.
It is honestly worse than being 20 in the bracket with 29 twinks, and
even worse than that because while I was decently geared at 79,
the difference between that gear and naked in the 80's bracket is
practically nothing compared to the least-geared of everyone else in
the fight.
And it gets even more depressing. I can spend a few weeks or months
at the rate I play, and end up with a set of "Deadly Gladiator" stuff.
That will get me to the level of "moderately undergeared".
I don't think I have any prospects for any kind of Arena rating, so
until that changes, I really don't see as much value in my character
at 80,
as I did at 79.
Nobody warned me about this. It really does appear that there is
effectively a "level 89" for all intents and purposes, and that it's
going to
be more difficult and less fun to try to get there, than everything
from 1-79 all put together.
<snip>
> Nobody warned me about this. It really does appear that there is

It was the same at 69 - 70 in TBC. You go from being in the top of the
bracket to being at the bottom of the bracket in an instant. It's tough
when it happens and you get slaughtered often.
I actually didn't have as much of a problem with my Paladin healer when
I dinged 80 as I did with my Priest healer when she dinged 70 in TBC.
That could be a difference in class or it could be that I got to 80 more
quickly than I got to 70 so the others in the BGs weren't as far ahead
of me.
steve.kaye
One reason twinking in earlier brackets was so popular - it's a lot
easier to gear for. But now twinks are segregated and can hardly find
any games, it's not worth it IMO. It's especially dumb given BoA twinks
have taken over earlier brackets anyway. Just one type of twink
replacing the other. Nothings changed, except it's a LOT more expensive
to make twinks now, and they need to be remade once they level too high.
