In her bags all of the Warlock Shards, or whatever they are exactly
called would not stack.
What's up with this?
I thought shards were now stackable?
Well what do you want from me, I know jack diddley about Warlocks
except that my healer seems to have to constantly cast renew on them
in heroics while we walk from one set of mobs to the next.
STACK THOSE SHARDS!! STACK 'EM!!! DO IT!!
OH! OH! OH!
Orion
Nope. They've never been stackable. And while they increased hunter ammo
stack size from 200 to 1000 so the need for ammo pouches/quivers has become
obsolete, shards still don't stack. I carry a nice 28 slot shard bag on my
warlock.

If you can afford to, that is nice, but really not necessary, they can just
drain life for a few seconds during the next fight and top themselves off
nicely. At least my warlock does.
> STACK THOSE SHARDS!! STACK 'EM!!! DO IT!!
I for one wouldn't mind :-)

I'll have to have a crafter make her one. Might be one already sitting
on a mule somewhere.
Whereas I don't have to top off locks sometimes I have been with a few
untrustworthey ones who have not topped themselves off before next
fight so I do it just to annoy them. Of course they can tell me I
don't have to and if they do then I won't.
Orion
They typically top off DURING the next fight rather than before it :).
Particularly Affliction specced locks - we get a nice little burst of
healing throughout the fight from Haunt. If fighting Undead or if the
mob is close to death then Death Coil bring in a lot of life too.
Then Fel Armor returns health too.
In general if a warlock is in combat their life is ticking upwards on
it's own :).
Mike
Nope, I had hoped they'd be, but no such luck yet.

Warlocks use Life Tap often to convert HP into mana, so they need those
Renews.
> STACK THOSE SHARDS!! STACK 'EM!!! DO IT!!
Soul shards bother me a lot, now that I've Talented up so I regain mana
if I kill a mob with Drain Soul. Previously I'd only use Drain Soul if
my Soul Bag wasn't full, but now I use it routinely, which means I have
to destroy a dozen soul shards or so, after every dozen mobs or so. When
I resume playing again in February, I'll need to find an add-on that
handles the soul shards for me.
So yes, I agree, they ought to stack. Previously both the Hunter and the
Warlock had to waste a bag slot on their class specialty. Now it is only
Warlocks, and my problem isn't even that I have to spend a bag slot, but
that the game forces me to manually destroy excess shards.

Necrosis will handle shards for you. You tell it which bag to use and to
destroy excess shards once the bag is full. I like it.
Yeah, long term they want to get rid of shards as objects and appear
more like Death Knight runes. But I wouldn't expect that until a
major patch after the next expansion...
ShardStats
Or get a 32-slot shard bag and let Blizzard destroy any shards above 32 for
you without the addon.
Someone else suggested Necrosis. What's the difference between those two?

How do I let Blizzard do that? If my soul bag (currently I have a 20
slotter) fills up, additional shards just end up in my normal bags.

Soul Shards are Unique(32). If you already have 32, the game will not
allow you to collect any more. Conveniently, this is exactly the capacity
of the largest soul shard bag.

Judging by the name, ShardStats looks like it just handles soul shards.
Necrosis handles shards and other warlocky type things like pets,
soul stones, buffs etc.

Soul Shards are Unique(32) meaning that WoW will automatically limit the
number you carry to 32. That's why Urbin suggested getting a 32-slot
soul shard bag - so that it would be one bag full and none would go into
your other bags.

Cool, and now that you mention it, I seem to recall having read that in
a patch note some time ago.
Just too bad 32-slot bags are way so expensive. I did get a lot of cheap
herbs from Darkmoon Faire last month, which I sold some of, and will
sell a lot more of when I resume playing next month, but I'm not sure
it'll earn me enough gold to buy a 32 slotter.
Also, I'm not sure I'd want to spend a bag slot on a soul bag, if I can
find a good add-on that squelches unwanted soul shards. In that case I
might well want to go with a squelch treshold of 6 or 8 soul shards, or
even just 5, meaning I'll have almost one entire bag extra for carrying
loot.

Thanks, but where can I find it? Googling for it doesn't give any
particularly obvious hits.

Too expensive for a player with only low level characters.

Necrosis is an all-in-one warlock addon managing health stones, soul stones,
portals and whatnotelse... ShardStatus only destroys shards you get above a
certain limit and is useful if your shard bag is smaller than 32 slots.

As others wrote, the shards were changed to be unique(32), so you just don't
pick up any more after that.
Incidentally, both the 32 limit and using ShardStatus have a problem in
common: If you are forced to dismiss your pet (e.g. if it is on stay and you
run away or if you jump and it walks the long way which turns out to be too
far etc), you don't get the shard back (or with ShardStatus you get it back
only to have it auto destroyed).
A minor problem, but still sometimes annoying :)
Oops, typo. It's called ShardStatus IIRC.
Get a 32-slot bag. As I understand it, shards are auto destroyed when
you have more than 32 in your bags so you need a 32-slot bag for them
not to end up in your other bags.

Not at all necessary if you use an addon like SoulSpeak
<http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info13435-SoulSpeak.html> to
delete shards in excess of a number you set. I never bother carrying
more than 12, personally.
There are other simpler addons to do the same if you don't want
SoulSpeak's other features. Also more complex ones that do even more
Warlock stuff. Just take a look around.

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.
No clue if it still works but I used to use ShardStatus which did a
great job; set the number of shards you want and it deletes all
others, without having a ton of irrelvant features that I don't need
or use. Haven't really played a warlock since WotLK though so for all
I know it may have broken back then and never been updated.

If you leveling - then your proposal should be fine - you prob wont
need more. But if you raiding - or maybe even doing heroics you
should need more.
May be a summon portal at the start to get the stragler into the
raid... then soulstones... one every 15 mins.... and ofc
healthstones... a soul well before each boss fight and may a coupl e
extra. If you using felguard/felhunter/voidy/succy - and you losing
them - you need more..
You could ofc get more as you raid... but your raid leader wont thank
you for nerfing your DPS just to get soul shards when some proper
preperation means you should have enough for raid at start .
Cheers
It still works like a charm, that's why I recommended it upthread (though I
misspellt it as ShardStats :).

Hehe I realised that when I read further down the thread, teach me to
read further before chipping in with advice people have already given
:-)

If you're an affliction lock, when the mob is at 25% HP or less then
Drain Soul does 4x damage, more than Shadowbolt. What's more you get a
shard every time it runs out as long as you don't clip it, and another
if the mob dies. With the soul shard glyph you can get quite a few from
a single mob.

I downloaded Shardstatus last week, and managed to install it even
thought there were no documntation whatsoever. It works with the current
version of WoW, squelching soul shards beyond a limit that I can adjust
quickly with a keyboard command as my situational needs change, the only
problem being that the output display of the add-on is right behind the
top of my right side action bars, costing me 3 or really 4 action bar
buttons that I kinda need for other things, and with no documentation I
don't know how to move the output display to someplace else.

I have moved the ShardStatus frame off the right of my screen, so I can only
see a tiny bit of its anchor, as I don't really need to see any of it (my
Fubarplugin tells me how many shards I have).
> and with no documentation I don't know how to move the output display

Hm, it's been a while since I moved that frame, but usually I try left or
right click-dragging in combination with Shift, Ctrl or Alt if a frame
doesn't move easily. Also, IIRC there is a tiny little square off the top
left corner of the ShardStatus frame which is used as anchor to drag it
around, try click-draging on that.
