Why Can't I Select "NEED" in Random Heroic?

I was playing my son's Shadow Priest in his first Heroic yesterday -
random style. The first boss dropepd a cloth item with Mp5. The only
cloth weareres in the group were his Shadow Priest and a Warlock and
for certain that warlock had no need for the item. It was a real big
upgrade for my son's priest and when I tried to click on the "NEED"
icon nothing was happenning. I ttried and tried but no way was it
allowing the selection.

I know there is some kind of "block" that will disallow classes that
can't use an item from ninjaing the item but I can't make any sense
out of that being put to use in this situation. I mean it was a cloth
item and a priest could have used it especially my son's priest.

The only choice I had was to select GREED and hope to win it but
someone else won it and it was disenchanted. Even if it was not
disenchanted I have noticed that in heroics cross realm trades do not
happen when attempted.

Interesting "bug"...

Feature?

No defintely a bug although I am surte the programmers here will say
that it is working as "specified" and to which I would reply that
"working" is a relative term. It is probably better to state that it
is "functioning" s specified.

I hate being ripped off!!!

It was a bug. Priests are supposed to be able to roll on all cloth
items since they can potentially heal or DPS. The only things they
should be blocked on (aside from items they can't equip) are things
like trinkets, jewlery, and weapons that have melee or tanking
oriented stats on them.

It goofs up sometimes though. I was in a random BRS run last week and
somehow the Pally tank was able to Need roll on a caster staff and
ninja'd it from a Mage in the group. I was on my Lock but had the
heirloom staff already so it didn't hurt me, but if I'd have been the
Mage I'd have been pretty ticked.

I can't answer your question, but I can (and do) feel your pain. You
*know* how reluctant I am to roll "Need" on anything, but my Mage has
already lost out on at least 3 upgrades because he couldn't roll
"Need" on obvious upgrades. Why? I have no clue, just know it's
happening all the time ;-(
