Grunts and footman are the exact same. They have no difference except
for appearance.

One difference often overlooked is the difference in the upgrades at the
smith. Footman use way less lumber, more gold. This can have a big
effect early and later in the game, (sooner to TH upgrades,) This can be
significant, esp. on sea it seems.

Assuming same level and 1v1.

Whoever hits who first.

Simple

Gets fun though, figuring out Upgraded Shields v Upgraded Swords and
various upgrade paths until they are both on Level 5.

Level 2 Sword V Level 2 Shield. Who win??
Level 3 Sword only V Level 3 (1-Shield and 1-Sword) Who win??

Has anybody tested theses scenarios or other upgrade combinations??

That would have been a better question.

:)

Depends on whether lumber or gold is more important at the beginning.
Sometimes when you have lots of gold and little lumber, footmen are better.

For this same reason, I usually play humans on sea maps. I can upgrade my
troops and still have lumber for ships and their upgrades.

If the orc were to get the first hit then i would think that it would be
the orc who would win.

If the Footman or Grunt would battle, it would be a tie.
It depends on what level they are, if a Footman level 2 battles a Grunt level
1, the Footman would win.
If you look at there hit points, attack points, armor, speed, and everything
when they are at level 1 both of them are the same.
I hope this helps to all the ignorant people out there.

Not always - there is a variable amount of damage done. On more than one
occasion I've gotten in th first blow, two blows sometimes, and still lost
to an equally upgraded enemy unit.

What game r u playing???

Tip! Don't touch yr man while he is fighting. That is why u die in a 1 on 1
Footman/Grunt fight.

If he hits 1st he will win. If he doesn't hit 1st then he will die. This
assumes same level.

Just don't click on him.

ok?

;-)

Wrongo dude. Look in the manual. There is a variable amount of damage done.

Not ok. The damage they inflict is random. Just look at their specs
"Damage A-B+2", where B is much greater than A.
So, if you have much more luck than your opponent, one your footman can
kill two his grunts. Yes, such things happen very rarely (have you ever
heard about "calculus of probability"?). But it is quite often that one
which got the first blow loses.

Actually, it would probably depend on which had the better armor and swords due
to blacksmith upgradeing

it depends on who has the highest level why if a footman was upgraded all

Yeah, but what would I be doing with Level Two O-Ms lying around? ;)

By the time Ogres and Paladins can be upgraded to magic levels, they
should be fully trussed up with blacksmith upgrades. In my opinion,
anyway.
