what to get? hmmm
opinions please, as far as I can tell there are a few different styles
available
open, closed, over ear, larger than ear,in ear, USB, sound
card........so lots of choice
What I am after is an oversized pair of cans with a mic, so they go
'over and around' my ears, not 'on top of' so flat against my skull.
For long WoW sessions late into the night would be nice to have some
sort of air flow, so I assume open. but then closed (I think could be
wrong here) encapsulate ears totally so no air flow(?)
Sennheiser I have used in the past and do currently, I have PC 146 USB's
(http://www.sennheiser.com/uk/icm_senncom.nsf/root/500132) but they are
causing me to overheat in the summer heat!!
I have also heard good things about Plantronics.
Help and advise please.
Anyone know of somewhere I can go to trial some? UK London

I'm very fond of my Speedlink Medusa.

I first had the USB one, and switched to the normal stereo jack
model because that comes with an external box for switching
different line in/outs.

Both models are very comfortable to wear, even in the summer.

Some guildies have very good results with a wireless Jawbone and a
Kensington Bluetooth USB interface.

I use Seinheiser HD280 Pros with a boom mic, I couldn't find a USB
headset/mic combo that was even close to as comfortable as the
Seinheisers. If you can't use a boom mic you could always use an old
headset and wrap it around your neck and angle the mic to your mouth,
sure it looks funny but if your gonna game for 3 hours straight your
ears won't feel like they've been in a vice.

I used that solution for a while and it really sucks. The problem is
that the mic isn't attached to your head so if you turn it your mouth
moves away from the mic. Also, moving my arms up to my head to get
hair out of my eyes would knock the mic and I'd have to reposition it
a lot. It was very frustrating and I only used it until I got a boom
mic that I liked.

I've been using the Logitech USB 350 for quite some time now. Its only
drawback is that it is slightly on the warm side in summer (it is "on top"
not "over and around") and that I needed to add some padding to the plastic
thingie going over the top of my head as it tends to "sit" on my head. Since
I glue a little rubber foam to it that is not a problem any more.

On the plus side: It's fairly cheap, its mic is attached to the headset and
can be folded up if unused, it comes with a volume control *including* a
mute button into the cable. Very handy that. I need to sneeze? The wife
needs a good night kiss? I want to munch on those cookies? A zip of beer?
Just a press on the big blue button and off I go. Not sure if I'm muted or
not? Just check if the button flashes blue or not.

Cheers
Urbin

The Bluetooth solution also eliminates "hat head" from having a bulky strap
over the top of the head. It's about as intrusive as glasses. Less,
actually, since there's nothing resting on your nose.
