Inside sources have informed me that the estimated release date for WarCraft
2 Battle.net Edition is currently 09/24/1999.

Needless to say, this is rather annoying. At the moment, I've not the
faintest idea what's causing the delay(s), however, it most likely has
something to do with Diablo 2. I'll work on getting more information out of
my friend later today.

Sheesh...screw Diablo! I'd much rather see Blizzard devote some worthwhile
time towards developing StarCraft 2!

Peace.

I love it when people say either "Damnit blizzard stop working on that War2
BNE crap and put more people into Diablo" or vice versa. When will you
people realize that that can not be done. Diablo is created by Blizzard
North and is in no way related (employee capability wise) to Blizzard
(south?) which works on all the RTS's - in this case War2 BNE. So even if
they weren't making one of those two games, the other would still be
plodding along at the same rate because of the fact that 3d programmers for
D2 can't do jack for War2.

As for your inside source, I bet it's bull =P

Well, Mr. Doubting Thomas, I'm simply fed up with the endless string of
delays. WC2 BNE should have been done long ago, but nooo! Apparently,
they're spending more time changing the name, than developing the game.

Anyhow, I just got back from a late lunch with my buddy and he claims that
what Blizzard failed to disclose to the public (for obvious reasons) is that
they actually had to start over completely from scratch when they changed
the name to "WarCraft 2 Battle.net Edition."

Now, this confuses me, but my buddy insists this is the straight scoop.
However, I just dug up a press release for when they announced WC2 Platinum
(gosh, look there...way back in July of 1998...), and they clearly stated
there would be Battle.net support. Anybody care to add to something here?

http://www.diabloii.net/pressdesk/blizpr10july98_WII.htm

This is beyond ridiculous. First they wimp out and cancel "WarCraft
Adventures: Lord of the Clans." Then, they basically cancel "WarCraft 2
Platinum," and what a game that would've been with the two additional
campaign scenarios! Now, we're left with "WarCraft 2 Battle.net Edition,"
which as we all known, is really nothing more than WC2 with some reworked
code, a few new maps, and Battle.net support. Nice, but the "extras" of WC2
Platinum would've been much sweeter.

The question is: Will this product ever actually come to fruition? I'm not
so sure anymore, given that WC2 Platinum was announced last year (July '98)
and was supposed to be available late last fall/early winter. Will they
elect to cancel the project like they chose to do with WCA?

So here we are once again...and this bogus WC2 project is still nowhere to
be found. Blizzard says WC2 BNE will be "available worldwide Summer 1999."
Hmmm...and now the release date has yet again slipped...to 09/24/1999.
Umm...someone better tell Blizzard that's fall, not summer.

Peace.

If you haven't learned by now Blizzard is never on time so don't even bother
complaining about it.

It's not just blizzard, it's the whole damn industry. Ever hear about a
game called Daikatana? Almost 2 years delayed.

Agreed...and shall we even bring up "C&C: Tiberian Sun" that's hopefully
going to show up in August after nearly 5 years! :-)

Peace.

Starcraft was supposed to be out a few months after WarCraft came out.

Well, I know that Blizzard ain't real fast, but I don't think it was
s'posed to be that quick!! I mean, a coworker got me interested
in WarCraft2 long after it was originally released (the expansion
was already out) and it was still a number of months after that
that the rumors of SC started...

Will Warcraft II Platinum (Battlenet Edition) still have the special veteran
campaigns? When Blizzard first had info on this new edition, it said there
was going to be two (one orc, one human) new veteran single player
campaigns. Now, there is no mention of this. Any information would be
greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Originally, Warcraft 2 Platinum was to include two more campaigns. But
I believe those got cut, so they changed the name to WC2 BNE. BNE only
has the addition of Battle.net I believe.
