Argh, you used to be able to stop them overlapping with an option in
Interface > Names, now that option's gone and it's a right pain trying
to target anything when you've got more than one mob on you. Anyone
know if it's possible to fix it, or just have to hope Blizz patch it?

What do you mean stop them overlapping? I can't picture what this means.
But the nameplate thing is screwed up anyway, still having problems
targetting enemies with no nameplate in BGs :-(

Well, stop them from being on top of each other, not sure what else it
could mean? It's impossible to target a mob when the nameplates are
all on top of each other and waaay too close together, since you
cannot click on the right one. It was fine before the patch, when you
could set it to not allow overlapping nameplates.

As for the no nameplate thing, either get a nameplates addon (hasn't
happened to me at all with Aloft, others say TidyPlates works), or
there's a console command people were mentioning on the forums,
"console bloattest 1" - sounds like a joke but it fixed it for my bf
anyway.

Yeah sorry I know it seems obvious but I'm still missing what changes.
You click "don't overlap" and what happens, the mobs spread apart? ;-)
Ok I'm being silly, but seriously, if there are multiple mobs, there
will be multiple nameplates, how can they *not* overlap?

Excellent! Thanks for the advice, will check it out.

Eh, I mean, being right on top of each other on the screen. Like
directly overlaying each other so you cannot click the underneath one.
Just turn nameplates on in a pack of mobs and you'll see what I mean.
Used to be, there was an option to make them spread out and not do
that, now it's gone. I don't see how this is so hard to understand?
The nameplates do not have to be directly attached to the mob, they
used to spread slightly away from where the mob was standing to make
them distinct and easy to select. Now they do not do this and there is
no way to return to the old behaviour.

To try and clarify this...

Old behaviour:
http://img88.imageshack.us/i/wowscrnshot030510002038.jpg/

Current behaviour:
http://img692.imageshack.us/i/wowscrnshot101710162450.jpg/

Hard to see but on the 2nd one there's about 5-6 nameplates all mashed
into one big one - how on earth am I cupposed to select one? The old
screeny is perfectly clear, perfectly easy to select any particular
mob out of a bunch. Which is really realy needed in fights where you
have to make mobs die at the same time, for example (core hound packs
in MC, tiger boss in ZG, two fights I'm doing a lot atm!) And ANY time
you're tanking :-P

Ah ok, I didn't realise the nameplates could be elsewhere other than
directly above mobs/players, and was trying hard to understand how it
would be possible to not overlap in that case. Makes sense now, thanks.

Ahh, I see how you couldn't understand it then! Been like this pretty
much forever tbh, the option in the interface options only came in
recently, before that they didn't overlap just by default, so far as I
remember. Then they added an option to have them not overlap (although
why anyone would want to not have that option on is beyond me) and now
they removed it entirely. Not too happy with that really, it's making
tanking more than 2-3 mobs an absolute nightmare.

Ok, I installed TidyPlates, and while I like the addon, it doesn't solve
the problem. Still have missing nameplates in BGs. I'm off to try the
console command.

Now I don't know if I should keep TidyPlates or not :p

Hehe if you like it, may as well keep it, I'm happy with Aloft anyway
(albeit it's a bit bugged out since the patch, but hopefully they'll
fix that soon), feels weird whenever I go back to the regular
nameplates now!

I had tried out some nameplate addon a while ago and not liked it at all.
Then I started tanking on my bear and installed Aloft just for the bear. I
got so used to having them around that I now use it on all my chars.

Cheers

The ironic thing is I got Aloft after the conversation on here about
using it for tanking... I find the glow for tanking is useless, it's
on but I rarely take it in, so it doesn't actually help any! I tried
inverting it to show the mobs I don't have aggro on with the glow, and
it'd stick glows on mobs in other packs who weren't in combat with us
and make me panic that they'd aggroed, so I had to put it back to the
regular way, which doesn't help much if at all. But I liked the look
so much I kept it anyway ;-)

I'd just be happy if all the mobs nameplates appeared...For me still,
only 3/4 or the mobs nameplates appear. I'll move into loot a pile and
notice people are still fighting something. As I don't have freindly
nameplates on and play at a fair viewing distance I miss one or two and
feel like an idiot...I guess I should just turn them off and get used to
playing without any plates.

Did you try the "/console bloattest 1" command I mentioned in another

anyway with using a mod, but can well see why it'd be a pain if you
are getting it. It is a known issue that's due to be fixed soon I
believe, though.

No - I didn't try it yet. I just read it this morning and am not on WoW
until tonight, BUT - It'll be the first thing I try.... Thanks! Do you
have to do that once, or every time you start the game?

Apparently new commands or something but they work.

/console bloattest 1 - Might make nameplates larger but it fixes the

/console spreadnameplates 0 - Makes them overlap like they used to.
/console bloatnameplates 1 - Makes nameplates larger depending on threat
percentage.
/console bloatthreat 1 - Makes nameplates resize depending on threat
gain/loss. Only active when a mob has multiple units on its threat table

Seems the bloattest did the trick for me last night...Thanks. I'll hav
to try the spread nameplates one. I'm use to the overlap. It doesn't
bother me, but not having the nameplates over the toons head does...I'm
looking in the wrong spot for the mob...So I'll give it a shot...
