I wasn't around when TBC came out but I was wondering if they will
have a trial available so that you can get on with the new content the
instant it becomes available even if your disc is late getting
arriving? I ask as I am wondering whether to pre-order with express
delivery or not.

They didn't have TBC available for download at release so you should
definately pre-order if you want to start on day 1.

I don't think that you'll need to pay for express delivery though. In
the UK, things like this generally get to you on release day without
paying the extra for express delivery. I paid for standard delivery
for AoC and for TBC and had them both for release. I wouldn't use
Amazon's free delivery option because that's too much of a risk imo.

I did place an order with Amazon UK with standard delivery but then I
noticed it was being dispatched from some indigoigloo or something
jersey merchant which sounded like it may not come as quick so I
cancelled it.

I hate that aspect of Amazon. I go to Amazon to buy from a reputable
online seller - I don't want to buy from some small merchant that is
advertising through Amazon. Also, I don't want to go to some other
merchant who has a different set of terms and conditions. Sometimes,
the vendors are even based in other countries and don't send UK spec
items. I've heard of people getting stuff from France that didn't
even have an English plug or manual.

I don't use Amazon so much anymore because of this. Play.com is my
preferred DVD / Games / Music shop now.

I believe Amazon tells you if what you are purchasing is coming from
another vendor. I don't particularly like buying from some other
vendor, but at least since its through Amazon, I still have an avenue
to get my money back if need be since Amazon handles the transaction.
I had that problem a few years ago when I bought some of my school
text books from Amazon. One of them wasn't available from Amazon
directly, but some 3rd part vendor was selling one. When I got it
however, it was the international edition of the book. Come to find
out the difference between the US and international version was mostly
to do with page numbers. This made it very difficult to keep up in
class, so I contacted the vendor, who refused to deal with me. So I
contacted Amazon who refunded my money. I never even had to send the
book back.

As far as pre-ordering goes, I'm not going to bother. When TBC came
out, I went to Best Buy the day of, and sitting there in the front of
the store just as you walked in was the biggest stack of game boxes I
have ever seen, all TBC. A week later the stack was still there,
albeit much smaller. So, pre-ordering isn't a priority for me.
Neither is getting the collectors edition. While those are nice
(especially since they are usually on 1 DVD instead of 5 CDs), I find
the novelty factor provides about a day or so of amusement before all
the extra goodies get put on a shelf never to be used again.

They do, but it's just written in fairly small text and I can see how
the mistake could be made if you weren't aware of the fact that they
provide a shop-front service for smaller vendors. I'd really like the
search results to specify the vendor - the only clue you have there is
that some items will be eligible for free delivery but others won't.

I'm undecided whether I'll pre-order or just go to the shop myself.
Pre-ordering does have the disadvantage of having to be in or specify
my work address. As these things usually come out on Friday, if the
parcel is delayed then it'll be Monday before I'd get it.

To be honest, I'd rather not even have the box, the manual etc. I'd
rather just download it all except for the fact that it would be very
slow compared to getting it on disk(s).

Recently I have seen several people pre order games online and when it
came out they were the LAST people to get it.

Maybe its better to preorder in a store if possible or just wait for
opening day and hit a store for it.

DL the game....ahhhhh
I remember the expansion and everyone was shouting yep I paid for the
game now I have to install it then dl 3 updates before I can play.

good thing maybe 1 dl
bad thing overloads from hell might make this take hours on the first
day with everyone dl patches and such

How long was it after the release of BC, before the collectors edition
version came out? I like the art book that came with it and figure
that one would come out with the CE version of WotLK.

When you do a search, it usually shows you 2 things for the price.
First is a price that says "New from:" with a price listed. This is
Amazon's price. Second is "New & used from:" which is a 3rd party
vendor price. If it just says "Used and new from:", then its only
from the 3rd party vendor.

I don't think I have ever come across a situation where "New from:"
was not the Amazon price.

I can't even imagine the nightmare attempting to download that game
would be on release day. Somehow I think it would just be faster to
visit the store and actually buy the retail package.

Of course, if you're one of those people that lives in the middle of
nowhere...

Maybe the UK store is different. Search for medicarn in Sports &
Leasure. The first result is Medicarn Body slimmer Vibration Massage
Plate With support bars & Power Cords and says Buy new: 129.99 with no
Used & New section. This item is sold by InternetukShop, not Amazon.

It would. The only reason why I'd prefer to download it is that I
don't want the waste of getting packaging that I don't want. There's
no way I'd choose to download it even if it were available on day 1 by
download. My green streak just isn't big enough to go through that
painful experience. :P

Um, that would be me. I've pre-ordered it from Amazon as the nearest
Wal-Mart/Best Buy/box store town is 80 miles away. If I don't get it the
day it's released, that's okay, as I probably wouldn't make a trip there on
the release date anyway.

Guess I should consider myself lucky that there is a Target, Walmart,
Kmart, ToysRUs, Best Buy, Circuit City, as well as smaller game stores
such as Game Stop, all within a very close proximity to my home and
work.

Even if I do go out and buy it the day its released, I don't know if
I'll want to bother installing and playing it. After all the hassle
of installing it, you'll probably have to download another patch
before you can get going, and once that is done you'll probably find
so many people have logged on to play that there will be a queue, or
the servers will become unstable and crash as everyone either crowds
up on the docks to take the boat to Northrend, or simultaneously spawn
their new Death Knights in EPL. When TBC came out, I waited a day
before installing and getting things going. There was still a queue
to log on, but the servers were more stable. And by that point a lot
of people had already moved past the initial HFP quests, making it
actually possible to complete those quests in a reasonable period of
time.

I got TBC from Amazon with standard delivery, it showed up on the
morning of release but all my friends had got theirs from other
companies the day before so could start playing at midnight :-( A
later Amazon pre-order of a CD I wanted failed to show up, and 2 weeks
after release they told me it wasn't coming... since then I've
switched to Play for anything where I actually care about getting it
quickly.

I got my collector's edition on release day from Amazon. Amazon has a
special thing they do with time-limited stuff so that it gets delivered on
the release day, even though it was in the mail before it was supposed to
go on sale. *

This is only true for books and music.

Amazon has a number of affilliated retailers who they farm out some of their
items to. These are totally new items, it's just that Amazon themselves
doesn't carry them. *

EPL is going to be awful for a few weeks after release isn't it? :
( I really like learning new classes and the DK is the main thing
that I'll be looking forward to with the expansion. Even so, I think
that I'll have to leave it a while before starting one.

I had pre-ordered TBC with amazon.de which does free delivery to Switzerland
(and there is no amazon.ch :-) as I feared the local copies would be sold
out immediately or there wouldn't be any for a few days.

The irony is, I waited for my parcel for 5 days while I could have just
walked to the local book store and gotten myself a copy on day 1.

That's certainly what I'll try this time ;-)

Cheers

While a pre-order isn't going to hurt, you almost surely won't have
any problem finding a copy on release day. For something as big as
WoW companies order plenty of them. Pre-order is just a scheme by
Gamestop/EB to get early cash from you that can draw a little interest
(and some people never complete the order and lose the deposit).

I finally got the guy at Gamestop to quit bugging me to pre-order my
games when I asked if he'd rather I still purchase it there on release
day, or head across the street to Wal-mart, because they always have
plenty in stock on release day, with no pre-order required (though
truthfully so does EB - they just like to pretend that the world is
falling and that you'll never get a copy w/o pre-ordering).

Anyways, rant off :D.
