I have had War2 running on my old win95 machine for at least 2 years now
without a problem. Now I have a new computer w/ win98 and I haven't been
able to get it to work yet. The first sceen comes up, but when I select play
war2, it starts to boot the program and then halts and returns me to
windows. Anybody had a problem like this? What can be done about it? I tried
Blizzard & they sent me to Compaq & they sent me back to Blizzard & well,
you get the picture.

I had the same problem when I upgraded to Win98.
Turn off the Digital sound, and it will probably work, unfortunately you
just lost your digital sound for the game but you will still have the music.
God I wish it was the other way around.

Blizzard told me just to reinstall the driver for my sound card, which I
already had done, and it hadn't worked. They had no other suggestions, or
should I say they just referred me to there troubleshooting page which I
also had been too.
What great technical support. The only conciliation is there great games,
if you can get them to work.

I did get the game to run last nite by re-booting to ms-dos mode, but I
don't seem to have my cd-rom drivers configured for dos. At any rate, when
the program ask for the cd, I couldn't read from it. If I could get my
manufacturer to help me set up a boot disk, I think that this would work. I
ask Blizzard for help, but they said go to my manufacturer, who said go to
Blizzard...... I think you get the picture.

It's something with the digital audio. Go get the warcrack.exe file which
allows you to run the game without using the cd. Then you won't have a
problem. I have win98, it works fine.

Must depend on the sound card. I'm using Win98 and installed WCII with no
problems with an Ensoniq PCI 3D card. Only problems I've heard are with
those who upgraded from 95 to 98. My computer came with 98 installed. Try
reinstalling the drivers and check the website for the latest ones from the
mfr.

mine came with 98, get no sound on warcraft or warIIdemo

nada.. dell assures me' it works with everything, it's a legacy card-use
SoundBlaster pro

well, admittedly, the setup program does detect a SoundBlaster pro, yet I
hear NADA!

I finally got it to work last night. Compaq came through with a new driver
for the sound card and I re-installed the driver for the cd-rom. I played on
this computer for 2 hours w/sound and no problems. I haven't tried yet
today. I don't think I'll have any trouble though. Thanks to everyone for
the suggestions!
