Outsider
came out and I have a 60 Shaman Tauren amongst other characters that are not
quit as high level. I also just purchased BC so where do I go from here?
Where do I need to take my Shaman to get to 61 or 62? Oh, I solo mostly, in
case that affects the replies.

Go to Blasted Lands, travel south to the Dark Portal and go through it.
Presto, you're in Outlands. There will be a quest NPC there to direct
you to Thrallmar, which is the starting Horde town.

You can also level above 60 in the old world, but you'll get much
better
drops and quest rewards in Outland. My main didn't go there until 62.

Just do three simple steps.
1. Install the expansion.
2. Make certain to upgrade your account to handle the expansion.
3. Head on over to the blasted lands and go thru the portal.
From there, it's just quest as normal.
I know that the 1st 2 steps seem obvious, but you'ld be absolutely surprised
at the number of people I've encountered who've installed the expansion, yet
failed to upgrade their account and didn't notice that there was a problem
until after they tried to get a summon or portal to Shattrath. Sometimes
this was months after they installed and upgrade and went thru several patch
cycles.

Something else strange. I have all my training points back and none
allocated. Thought I would try my hand at a mob gray to me and almost died.
That is when I opened training and saw I had 51 (I think) points to spend.
So.... at level 60 with all the training points to spend, where would you
spend them for someone on a PvE server?

From time to time, the developers screw around with the talents. They
may remove or change an existing talent or add new talents. When they
do this, if the changes were broad enough, they refund all your existing
talent points and let you spend them from scratch.
They haven't done this for quite a while, but you said you'd been gone
from WoW for a long time, so I'm sure this is what happened.

If you're mostly soloing, you'll want to spec for DPS rather than healing.
Of the two DPS specs, Enhancement and Elemental, I'd recommend going with
Elemental because it is more forgiving of bad gear.
Not that your gear is necessaily bad by level 60 standards, but gear got
a significant boost in the expansion, so unless you have all epic gear
from BWL and Naxxaramas your gear will be bad by *today's* standards.

Thanks all. Armor and weapons are dropping in the Outlands, although green
to me, they have stats far better than the blue and purple items I have on.

It's not so much that things changed in general, it's just that they had to
do what they call a "gear reset" to make sure the new content offered
challenge but was still achievable to both people in level 60 greens and
those in raiding epics.
That means that the "gear jump" from 60 to 61 is huge, offering amazing
updates to the non-raider during the first level, taking a bit longer for
those in T3 (I think that was it, right?). It slows down later on.
A similar jump is expected from 70 to 71 with WotLK but I guess at the
moment you have other concerns :-) Enjoy BC!

Just an update. I am now level 66 and have gotten a couple of pieces of PvP
gear from the battlegrounds. The game is fun again and I am starting to
understand that there is life after level 60 :) Thanks to John Gordon,
cryptoguy and Urbin for the helpful tips when I first came back.
My plan is to:
(1) stick to elemental spec (15 in resto) until 70 then respec to resto.
(2) finish getting the complete set of PvP gear in the BG (four pieces to
go)
(3) no idea what to do after that
Any recommendations or would you do something different? Thanks yet again!

u need to do a choice: pvp or pvp... i'll try to regroup the info
here...
=> If u choose PVP (less info, i'm pve player):
- Make rep till revered with each faction give the pvp set (look @
wowhead.com to find witch are)
- Start to gear up augmentig your resilience
- Start to play random arene to take the habit
- Form a 2v2, 3v3, 5v5 arena team and start to run for the "brutal"
set, the best arena set in the game
=> If u choose PVE:
- make rep till honored with all istance-faction (lower city,
thrallmar/honor hold, cenarion, shatar]
- start grinding d3 set
- start grinding heroic badges to buy item t5-like
- find a guild that is tryng _at_least_ karazan at the curator
- wellcome in the poisonous world of the "need that piece"...
