I have another additional lap top that I have available at home but
was not using to double box nor were the kids using it to play on
because it would always be shutting down during WoW. And then when
trying to reload the game it would give a message box that a
compatible video device was ntoavaialble or some such and would
require a reboot in order to at least maunch the game but of course
the problem would repeat. It's an HP Elitebook 8530p which is supposed
to be good for gaming.
So I tried something out.
While the game was up on it I went into the WoW video settings and
changed the resolution to the lower end wide screen. That seemed to be
doing the trick but then after a little while the game shut down
again. Before I made the adjustment I have a feeling that the non wide
screen video setting was trying to be mapped into the actual wide
screen and created "issues" of some sort and changinig to a wide
screen res appeared to take care of that but there might have been
other issues I had to try to fix since it was still shutting down.
So I tried something else in addition to the wide screen resolution. I
went ot the WoW video settings again, but this time to the effects
section, and moved the top bar all the way to the left. I forget the
name of the bar but it had something to do with some kind of video
quality. So then I tried it out and the game worked fine. The video
quality was still good but things off in the distance were not coming
in very clear but who cares. The game did not shut down and I could
now double box again. (My other laptop went on the fritz so there has
been no double boxing for the last few weeks.)
Actually a few days later the game did shut down when I was in
Dalaraan at night and it was crowded but the game was able to relaunch
again without any problems and I just had to get my toon out of
Dalaraan fast and things were fine.
Hope the above is useful to someone.
OH! OH! OH!
