The PC games coming towards the end of the year and next year:
Unreal II
Unreal Tournament 2003
No One Lives Forever 2 (Lithtech Jupiter engine)
Doom III (new Id engine)
007 Nightfire (looks way better than current 007)
Planetfall
Star Wars: Galaxies (just unbelievable)
Everquest 2 (makes console graphics look sad)
Savage
The Matrix (all platforms)
Deus Ex 2
Freelancer (finally?)
Tombraider: Angel of Darkness
Lock On
Madden NFL 2003
Max Payne 2
Elite Forces 2
Myst Online
Gundam Online
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
City of Heroes
lots more
The PC has some great games coming, but as usual is very top heavy in a
handful of genres. If you enjoy a wide variety of games or don't like FPS
or RTS games then you probably won't be overly excited by the PC lineup.
FPS fanatics should be very happy, though.
Get real! PC just makes updated graphics of old gameplay.
I am SO damn tired og FPS games!

Then don't play them

:-) It certainly wasn't your beloved PS2, was it? It must have really
hurt a fantroll such as yourself to see Sony's pathetic E3 showing. Sony
did take it upon themselves claim victory in the console wars, so that
ought to be good enough for a fantroll. Then again, I suppose Sega could
have claimed victory during the Genesis heyday.

A game engine alone makes a good game not. PC software is only a fraction of
video gaming. Keep in mind, the largest vendor on the E3 floor is the
Nintendo area. You don't think Nintendo filled it up?
--
Jason
Same with Mario games.
For the 2nd year in a row you could hardly walk in Nintendo's area. It was
packed and they seemed to have some nice games.
Yet more engines created for running yet more FPS. "Yes!"......
FPS is the only genre I play on my Mac as it is the only genre I think is
better on the computer rather than the console. I'll be getting MoH:AA,
Halo, Unreal 2, and UT2003 this year and next. That goes along with the two
games I already have, Rainbow Six and RtoCW.
I dont know, there were nice games for all the systems. I was
dissapointed in the PC section felt there were way more consoles related
stuff then PC stuff.
Although with the stuff coming I do get the feelign that there will be
less vaporware this year.
This really disappointed me, because Nintendo only let so many people at a
time into their section, so you would have to wait in a massive line to see
their stuff. Well, being there for only one day, I had no time for lines at
all, dammit. I was very interested in seeing Nintendo's wares but had to
settle for GC titles from 3rd parties (many of which looked real good).

Don't forget - he's running a mac. RTS's are probably to graphics
intensive for his machine ;)
Tom
Scan the list - there are more games than just fps's. Nonetheless - Doom 3
made console graphics look obsolete ( and I am an xbox owner ) .
Tom
LOL! Actually Macs are supposed to be more powerful than PC's, but I don't
know why anyone would bother play games on a Mac ;)
Pikmin? I don't like RTS, mainly due to that whole real time part, I don't
like to be rushed playing a game. Also, most RTS games are way too complex
that they are just a headache to play.
Graphic intensive? The Mac can handle anything the PC can.
It's been a while, but for its time, Herzog zwei on the
Genesis was great fun. Still have my copy, should dust
off my Genesis and see if it's still just as fun today. ;)
It is all about community. The PC gaming community is too big to be fun.
Go on Gameranger and at any time you'll see a couple hundred players most of
which you know, now that is good community. On the other hand you have PC
where there are thousands, most of the time you don't see the same people
for weeks, certainly you won't have good friendships with as many gamers.

Yeah - only slower. Publisher is about the only benchmark I've seen the
mac beat the pc on in about 5 years.
Where have you been?
Tom
Who are you? Steve Jobs? The Mac's processors can't even come close to
northwoods or xp+'s these days.
Tom
And Deer Hunter, the Sims, and Tomb Raider! =)
I go to the real world for friendships.

Definately. There aren't too many at the show who could say bad things about
the Nintendo area. Nintendo is doing their jobs right and I can see things
getting even better as the year goes on. Looking forward to the Space World
event this year as well.

Having switched from Mac to PC, I think I can safely say that you don't
know what you're talking about. I can also understand why people prefer
the Mac for general use and so (the only other option being to spend a
lot of money on a PC, just for gaming) play games on them too.

Nothing more than mock enthusiasm over the news of more engines to run more
cookie cutter FPS. For me, FPS have been done to death and I'd much rather
hear about new play mechanics or gameplay innovation than about new mapping
techniques, poly counts and whatnot. I was just replying about FPS, not
about the rest of the list.

Doom 3 may sport the latest and greatest engine that's sure not to run on
98% of this newsgroups PCs unless they upgrade but I personally think
Metroid Prime (if you want to compare) has a much more interesting graphic
style to it. I'm sure that statement will be taken the wrong way, I'm not
talking about poly counts or resolution, I'm talking about the settings,
character designs etc.
Well, the Doom 3 engine may be used to make great games, à la Metroid.
Sorry, that ment to make you an expert?
What the hell is "ment"?
Learn how to spell you illiterate boob. You sound like Fez from "that 70's
show".

Being ignorant of how things are done is one thing,
knowing how things should be done but choosing not to
follow the established rules is quite another.
Like all PC to X-Box ports all of the above will suffer some.
Learn your capitalization, Corky. If you're going to place something in
quotations, it makes sense to type it as it actually appears; for
example, "That 70's Show".

He picks, I pick.
1) your an arse,
2) you will get nowhere picking on my spelling.
3) you avoided the point.
Yes, I believe owning an xbox ( and a dreamcast ) makes me an expert on
good console graphics. If you know of a way for me to become more of an
expert, please share it with me.
Tom
I would have thought someone as smart as you apparently are would know there
are supposed to be 2 spaces after periods. I realize that this game we're
playing is stupid, but it's really easy to find little errors in these
messages. My whole point was that if fez was going to try and slam me, he
should at least try to phrase his sentences in something resembling English.
Otherwise it isn't really worth my time.
Just out of curiosity, you came pretty fast in defense of fez - is he your
girlfriend or something? Did I touch a nerve?
Tom
The fact that you do not need to mention you owned an xbox. It's not*
because you own an xbox or a dreamcast that you are an expert in graphics.
It's because you are a human gamer.
and stuff.
actually, in the proper english language, there aren't. it's a common
old school typing procedure, but it isn't a rule. sorry.

precisely my point. why exactly did you harp on the spelling error he
made instead of answering his statement. you knew damn well what he
meant, and chose to avoid it I guess. btw, spelling flames are a great
way to look like an ass. just so you know.

or maybe, you shouldn't get caught up in spelling lames in a forum where
punctuation, upper and lower case, and such are frequently ignored.
USEnet has never been about proper spelling, you silly ikkle l3mur.

Then how come more than half the games you listed are also on consoles? And
how come 3/4 of the E3 floor space was devoted to showing console titles?
And how come you're suddenly backing PC gaming instead of trumpeting about
how the PS2 kicked the shit out of the Xbox? OMG, the PS2 must be in serious
trouble if Bligmerk has fled the ranks of PS2 trolls.

Does the PC have any other genres besides FPSs then?

PC graphics always outstrip new console graphics after a couple of years
(once you buy a new PC video card that costs more than an entire console),
but it doesn't change the fact that console games as a whole always outsell
PC games by a massive margin and appeal to a much larger segment of the
average gaming population. Thus it has been, thus it shall always be.

Who's got time for more than one MMO game though? Besides you, Johnny
Homebody.

Didn't they cancel that title? Was it reannounced or something?

Nice graphics, but still just a shooter.

Nice graphics, but still just a shooter. Though I like a lot of the new
touches they've put in the game, like unscrewing lightbulbs to darken an
area and using banana peels to slip up foes. Thank god Monolith has finally
left the ugly Lithtech engine behind. The next couple of years are going to
be great for them.
> Doom III (new Id engine)
Won't be out until Q4 2003 at the earliest. Then again, it'll probably need
a minimum of a Geforce4 or next-gen ATI chip, so that might be a good thing.
> 007 Nightfire (looks way better than current 007)
And yet it still doesn't look that great. It's also on the consoles.
> Planetfall
Is this ever going to be released? And when it is, will anyone care? Why
play a MMO sci-fi shooter when you can play Star Wars Galaxies? Sony Online
is going to find they have two products competing with one another.
> Star Wars: Galaxies (just unbelievable)
The only MMORPG that will matter. Also coming to Xbox and PS2.

Oh please.

Don't know this one.

It would be nice if this game lived up to the license. We'll see. And like
you said, it's coming to consoles too.

Looks great. Also coming to Xbox in identical form, not hacked to shit like
DX for the PS2 was. I'd still rather play it on the PC tho.

LOL. It looks like nothing more than a graphical upgrade to the 39 TR games
that came before. And needless to say, it's coming to the PS2.
> Lock On
Be serious now.

Um, you're using Madden as an example of why PC gaming is going to be good?
Sports games on a PC? That's just silly, unless you have a 12" TV and/or
absolutely no one else to play with.
> Max Payne 2
Consoles too.

Looks identical to Elite Force 1, and coming to consoles too.

Kind of a neat idea... a MMO where you don't kill things. My mom would like
it.
> Gundam Online
Heh. Gundam.
> Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Coming to the Xbox many months before it hits the PC. This is going to be a
Christmas system-seller for the Xbox.
> City of Heroes
Snooze.

The most impressive PC game I saw at E3 this year was the nearly-complete
Neverwinter Nights, and it's a true PC exclusive. I know you're obsessed
with shooters but you really ought to add that to your list. C&C: Generals
too.
And as usual, the real winners will be people who play games on all three
consoles and the PC. Unlike you. Poor wee Bliggsy.

Is the concept of a typo beyond your comprehension?
Then don't try to find them. Remember, that some people don't care what they
write just as long as other people understand what they mean.
And obviously, typos happen all the time. In newsgroups it's not a
problem... In a report for, say, your boss it would be.
and stuff.

And Metal Gear Solid.
What? You are bitching about the on;ine gaming community being too big? I
don't know about you, but I'd rather have a wide range of low ping server
sto connect to with plenty of players to put yourself up against, rather
than a community of a couple of hundred with limited options.
