"Investec reiterated a possible sale price of between $1 and $2 billion for
the games division, although the final figure may be below $1 billion. When
the sale of the games division was first suggested last year, a price tag of
around ?1.2 billion was thought to be on the cards; since then, the whims of
the financial markets have wiped significant value off games stocks, perhaps
reducing that price by as much as a third."

A Vivendi buyout doesn't mean Half-Life would be an Xbox exclusive:

"It's also now thought that any acquisition of Vivendi would not bring with
it the lucrative Half-Life and Counter-Strike franchises after all - with
those properties belonging to developer Valve rather than to the publisher.
Hugely respected development studio Blizzard would certainly be a part of
the package, however, bringing with it the Starcraft, Warcraft and Diablo
properties."

That makes me a little happier.

So, are the proposed Halflife 2 and CS:condition 0 games STILL gonna be on
x-box, and be exclusive (besides PC)?

There never was a proposed Half-Life 2, and Condition Zero was always going
to remain on the PC.

yeah, but there was a post, awhile back.... regarding Half life 2 and
counterstrike becoming x-box games. Is that still happening, I'll look it
up for you.

It looks like CS WILL be ported, but no word on HL2.

Microsoft also unveiled its online game service, Xbox Live, and announced
that more than half of the games published by Microsoft Game Studios will
have an online component.

"We're committed not only to the future of the Xbox, but to the future of
online gaming," Fries said. "Yesterday's blockbusters will become the online
triumphs of the future. Popular franchises such as "Project Gotham
Racing(TM)," "Amped(TM)," "RalliSport Challenge" and "NFL Fever" will
continue to blow gamers away, and drive console sales -- and also will be
available online. As for "Halo(TM)" and the work the Bungie Studios team is
doing, gamers can rest assured: The fate of humanity is in good hands ...
and online."

Games announced that will support Xbox Live include "NFL Fever 2003,"
"Counterstrike," "Midtown MadnessŽ 3," "MechAssault(TM)" and "Whacked!(TM)"
from Microsoft Game Studios; "Unreal Championship" from Infogrames; and
"Star WarsŽ Galaxies(TM)" from LucasArts Entertainment Company.

and

Microsoft today also acknowledged the widespread support of the games
industry for Xbox by filling the Orpheum Theater's front row with many of
the world's marquee game creators. The "who's who" list of game designers
included Jason Jones (Bungie), lead designer of "Halo;" Gabe Newell (Valve
Software), who is bringing his great "Counterstrike" franchise to Xbox;
Itagaki (Tecmo), creator of "Dead or Alive 3" and the upcoming "Ninja
Gaiden"; Suzuki (SEGAŽ of America Inc.), the creative force behind "Shenmue
II"; Molyneux (Lionhead Studios), creator of the upcoming Xbox epic,
"Project Ego"; Schaffer (Double Fine), developer for the upcoming Xbox
platform game, "Psychonauts"; and Drs. Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk
(BioWare), developers of "Star WarsŽ: Knights of the Old Republic(TM)" (in
conjunction with LucasArts Entertainment Company).

That was just speculation.

Counterstrike will be ported, but COndition Zero won't. Condition Zero is a
single-player spinoff of Counterstrike.

So forget about the imaginary HL2 and focus on Star Craft 4 or some
other game that may be released in 2005. That the Xbox may not last
past 2003 is a minor concern.

yes, it is

No, it was fortold, that if your gonna make counterstrike a standalone
console game, you might wanna add a single player campaign just as MOST
multiplayer games have.

EB (at least in Canada) has a release date for Half Life 2 and is taking
pre-orders for it, are you sure there's no official plan to bring it to the
Xbox? I thought we knew it was coming, we just didn't know if it would be
console-exclusive to the Xbox or not.

Half-Life 2 hasn't even been announced. No one knows if it's actually in
development.

analysts! :)

In a recent interview with the developer they said they were taking the
unfinished code of CS:CZ as their starting point and then taking the
completion of said code in a different direction for the Xbox version as
opposed to the PC version, but they were clear that the Xbox version would
have many of the enhancements from Condition Zero in it, would be missing
some, and would have others that the PC version lacked.

FWIW the talk was that they were going to use the Condition Zero code
when making the Xbox version of Counter-Strike. Apparently it is
tweaked a bit over the original Quake/Half-Life engine, and can
produce better looking character models and more textures.

As to the truth behind this, it's anyone's guess unless there's some
conformation from Valve.
