Your entire world view may be shattered.
Top five sellers on Amazon DVD list ALL BLU-RAY. Have to go past #50
just to find an HD DVD disc.
Face it Xtards, it's OVER. Blu-Ray wins.
Whats this got to do with the 360 idiot?
The 360 has only got a HD-DVD addon, which it don't need, where as the PS3
relies on Blu-Ray to make any sales.
So, do tell me why its OVER?
> Face it Xtards, it's OVER. Blu-Ray wins.
So what? Why do GAMERS care about which MOVIE format wins or loses? Even if
Blu-Ray conqueres the movie market, that isn't going to stop the 360 from
playing games, is it? I mean, it's not as if Mass Effect, Bioshock,
Halo3, COD4, etc. are all going to suddenly dry up and disappear - much as
your lot would love that.
It's pretty sad that the ONLY thing the PS3 trolls can genuinely crow
about is that their GAME CONSOLE's HD movie format appears to be
"winning"...winning a format war that makes up less than 5% of the total
home video market. Yeah, that's a good measurement of success. For a
GAME CONSOLE. Sony must be so proud.
So...keep crowing, trolls. The rest of us will be busily using our GAME
CONSOLEs for their primary purpose - PLAYING GAMES.

It's not broken. It's...advanced.
> So, do tell me why its OVER?
Well, what do you expect the Sony/PS3 trolls to brag about? How well Lair
sold over the holidays?
I mean it's not as though Sony thinks the PS3 is a game console - they've
just about said as much. Why else would they position it as a cheap
blu-ray player, a cancer research tool (Folding@Home) and a "super
computer" without even MENTIONING games?

Think it might have something to do with new releases being marked
down to $20? Gee... Ya think?

Oh jimmylab, did you bother to look up VIDEOGAME sales?
Of course not. All you can think of people doing with their PS3 is
playing movies.

Or Best Buy's 10 free offer with a PS3 purchase.
Or Best Buy's 5 for the price of 3 offer.
That's nice. Now what does that have to do with the Xbox 360 again?
Okay... so I'm looking over this list of bestsellers... and I'm
starting to notice something... about 3/4 of them are titles I
purchased in the last month through the multiple Buy One Get One Free
promotions Amazon was doing for Blu-Ray. Amazon did have one limited
one for HD-DVD but about 3 or 4 for Blu-Ray... and that's not
including the Buy Two Get One Free promotions.
And don't forget that all the free ones count as sold units... Amazon
even counts them towards the Free Shipping requirements, which is why
I can pay $19.95 for two movies and STILL get Free Shipping, which
requires $25+ worth of stuff in your order.

Well, to be honest, that's all I'm doing with my PS3 at the moment...
can't we be gamers AND video enthusiasts? Or can we only be one or the
other?

Your correct. And it also won't stop the PS3 from playing COD4, Uncharted,
R&C, Warhawk, etc. - much as your lot like to think it can't.

Weren't you just bitching 3 threads down about "Why are Blu-ray movies so
expensive"? Now your saying it's selling so well because they're so cheap?
You need to pick a side of the fence and stay on it.
Just take a look at PS3 sales to see a trend.
Hint: They were slow when the thing was expensive, and jumped way up when
the price came down.
> can't we be gamers AND video enthusiasts? Or can we only be one or the
> other?
Sure, but as a video enthusiast, why wouldn't you have a dedicated
stand-alone player instead of relying what's supposed to be a game machine
to play your blu-ray movies?
And that still doesn't answer why this troll thinks that the success (or
failure for that matter) of blu-ray will have any impact whatsoever on the
360.
When I want to watch a movie, I'll use a movie player. When I want to
play a game, however, I'll use a game player. The PS3 may be the better
movie player, but the 360 has better games.

What? Since when does stating a preference for games on the 360 mean that
you automatically believe the PS3 is totally bereft of games?
> > The rest of us will be busily using our GAME

How so? Sony still isn't calling the PS3 a game machine. They've called
it a movie player, a (super) computer, and a media center....but never a
game machine. Even the ads run in the US were, until very recently,
really confusing. What does a creepy crying baby doll have to do with
anything? That was more like an ad for the next Silent Hill game than an
ad for Sony's latest gneration to their Playstation behemoth.
At least the current ads show the PS3 games. Although one ad shows the
PS3 playing movies, which is an odd commercial when you think about it. I
mean, how many people are going to relate "movie player" with
"playstation" after all of the millions Sony has spent over the past
decade+ on associating "playstation" with "games"?
you bought a GAMING CONSOLE to WATCH MOVIES?!?!?!?

Why, when I can have both for the same price?
> When I want to play a game, however, I'll use a game player.
Why would you do that if you had 1 that does both?
> What? Since when does stating a preference for games on the 360 mean that

Because you have continue to post how the PS3 lacks games. You imply in
the sentence below that the PS3 is not a GAMING console (your
capitalization).

You just answered your own question. Everyone knows the PS3 is a GAMING
console. Why would Sony need to advertise that? No, they advertise that
NOT ONLY DOES IT PLAY GAMES, but it also plays blu-ray movies, streams
media, connects to your PSP wirelessly, etc. Those are the things they
SHOULD market.
Someone who likes watching movies. Think about it though, for the money, it
is a good deal if you want to watch HD movies, and BR seems to be taking
off. It is still a cheap BR player, and it can play games. Yes, the 360
definitely has way more games, but the PS3 is picking up, and the sales of
PS3 games are now surpassing (on average) 360 game sales.

Well, you *could* link that up with his statement that the Playstation
3 isn't really much of a gaming console...
Uh, I guess...
a) someone who realizes the "game" machine was a better than the standalone
players at the time
b) someone who realizes the "game" machine was CHEAPER than those standalone
players at the time
c) someone who realizes that he gets a free GAME machine with his "video"
player and can enjoy hundreds of next gen games while also having the
ability to watch movies on the format he wants, all from the same machine
taking up a single HDMI connection.
So I guess this LOSER figured he could get 1 device to do all of the above
rather than playing twice that amount to get multiple devices to do it. At
least this LOSER has good economical sense, wouldn't you agree?

IF Blu-Ray was the winner in the format war, then this would be a stronger
argument. Right now, it's still too early to claim a winner. Maybe in 6
months things will be different.
In the meantime the HD video market isn't a big concern to me.
Games, however, are. And when I consider the libraries available right
now on the PS3 and the 360, the 360 wins. At least for now. However who
knows what the future will bring and personally I'm not much for buying a
console based on what might be released for it in the future.
> you bought a GAMING CONSOLE to WATCH MOVIES?!?!?!?
No, it was given to me as a gift by my brother-in-law. Ok, in its
defense, it did come with Ratchet&Clank, which is the only game for the
PS3 I was interested in buying.
Of course, he only uses his PS3 for movies. For games, he's playing his
360 (Halo3), or PC (WoW).
> "So...keep crowing, trolls. The rest of us will be busily using our GAME

> -Doug Jacobs, earlier in this thread.
Yeah, which is what I'm doing with my 360 and PS2.
Claiming the PS3 is the best game console because it plays blu-ray movies
is just silly.
Yeah, sure. Wait no. Good economical sense is waiting until the winner-
player costs >$200 and I can buy a 50 stack of blanks at Wal-Mart rent
them at Netflix and copy them.
But really I don't see the point of buying a single movie in Hi-def
until there is ONE FORMAT. If I ever buy a PS3 it won't be because it
plays blu-ray, I'd rather have a dedicated player for that. I never
used my PS2, Xbox, Xbox 360, or PSP to play a single movie. And of
course since this is usenet, if you don't agree with me you are a
loser.
Er I've got Xbox 360, Wii and PS3
I play them in that order, so far the PS3 is good for playing a few
over-rated high def movies. Man it's slooooow as hell at that. loading
times are horrible. Call me when Beta Ray movies are $10 each.
Sounds like your PS3 is broken. No problems with my 60G PS3. Mine
also plays games.
