Just wondering if there has been a PS2 firmware upgrade recently, in the
last 2 or 3 years or so. My PS2 is about 2 - 3 years old and I've noticed
some DVDs not loading up properly (whilst my Toshiba DVD Player has no
problems with the same disk). I have noticed more and more newer generation
DVDs giving me trouble ... Any thoughts on this ??? I have thought it may
be something to do with obtaining a new, updated firmware ... On the other
had it may just need a clean ...

cheers, mike

Although long before the system launch Sony said that the BIOS for the
PS2 would be user updateable, this is not the case. If you are having
DVD loading problems you should clean the PS2 lens properly.

First clean your laser lens, if you know how to.
If you definitely know that its a software issue, you may get latest
drivers via buying the DVD remote. That one comes with up-to-date
drivers, but you will have to waste some memory-card space for it.

This is the case. The JAP units have EPROM for firmware updates, the
EU/US units can use the memory cards... Therefore the BIOS IS
updateable. You can get a new BIOS if you buy (or borrow) the CD from a
PS2 remote (official).
