Is there any way to stop Silent Hill's Auto loading of the last save
when you hit continue? I am in a difficult section and want to go back
to a previous save to find more ammo, but the game won't let me go back
to any of the other saves I have.

I never messed with the autoload feature but you can turn it on and off in the options
menu (go to the screen that you use to select your weapons from and on the bottom left of
the screen, click "options"..then you'll see the auto load on/off switch.)

Press L1+L2+R1+R2+select+start to quit to main menu, and load from there.

BTW, the above combination works on a lot of games as a quick reset.
