Thrill Kill Thrills Publishers

We've all heard the word from Electronic Arts
regarding
the much-publicized cancellation of Thrill
Kill – that
controversial four-player fighter that's caught
the eye of
many PlayStation owners. Even though EA has
officially
killed the game, many big-time publishers seem
to want to
get their hands on it. Acclaim's one of the
companies
rumored to be very interested in acquiring the
rights to the
game for distribution. Will EA let the game go?
We'll know
soon enough.

Resident Evil Exorcised?

The biggest rumor that could shock the
PlayStation
community forever is that Resident Evil 3 may
not come to
the PlayStation at all. The folks at Capcom
Japan are
looking heavily into exclusive Dreamcast
development for
the next incarnation of its Survival Horror
series, which
indicates that the project may be too ambitious
for the
power of Sony's current machine. On the
flipside, the
official word is that Resident Evil 3 has the
green-light on
the PlayStation, and the game will appear on
both systems.
We shall see what Capcom has up its sleeve when
it makes
the announcement next weekend at the Sega New
Challenge
Conference Part 2. And on a related topic…

CPS-3 Hardware Tossed

Apparently, the R&D folks at Capcom feel that
Sega's
Naomi hardware (the arcade equivalent of the Dre
amcast
technology) is cheaper, more versatile, and more
powerful
than its current 2D hardware, known as CPS-3
(Capcom
Programming System 3). All development on CPS-3
has been
moved to Naomi. Now, what does this mean for
PlayStation
owners? Well, if you thought that ports of CPS-3
games like
Street Fighter 3 and Warzard were unlikely
candidates for
the current system, this move to Sega hardware
could mean
that there's no way in hell you'd see the game
on the
PlayStation, at all…even in the watered-down 2D
versions of
late.

Sony Cancels Press Meeting

As the members of the gaming press finalized
their
itineraries for the Tokyo Game Show, Sony
scheduled a
meeting to go behind the scenes at Sony and
various
PlayStation developers. Days later, Sony pulled
the plug on
the gathering, chalking it up to the things "not
being quite
ready yet." What could this mean? Speculation
leads us to
believe that Sony may have wanted to start
hyping the
PlayStation 2 hardware as well as software
currently in
development, showing the press what we can
expect out of
the fabled system.
