Does anyone know if you will be able to backup Playstation2 games? What
about using backed-up Playstation (1) games on a PS2?

You can back up a PS2 game only:
1. If it's not on a DVD
2. If you have a Mod Chip in the PS2 to play the backed up games
and again...you'll be able to play backed up PS1 games on the PS2 if
you have a mod chip in the PS2. As of now a modchip for the PS2 does
not exist.
